In Drishti IAS Current News Bulletin, we bring to you a summary of news events that happened last week. Recently, President Draupadi Murmu has administered the oath to Bhartruhari Mahtab as the Pro-tem Speaker of the 18th Lok Sabha. The Pro-tem Speaker is appointed by the President as the temporary Speaker. He administers the oath to the new MPs. And also plays an important role in overseeing the proceedings of the House until the permanent Speaker is elected. It is worth noting that Pro-tem is a Latin word which means 'for the time being'.
In other section, Recently the Ministry of Education has canceled the UGC-NET examination to be held in June 2024. The ministry has taken this step due to irregularities in the UGC-NET examination conducted by NTA. However, apart from this, allegations were also made regarding the fairness of the NEET-UG examination. In such a situation, the government has implemented the Public Examination (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024 to stop rigging in the examinations.
