The Singer 301 was actually the first slant needle machine and it made it much easier to sew by making it easier to see where the needle was entering the fabric. In 1954 Singer released their “Automatic Zigzag Attachment” that made it possible for most of their strait stitch machines to zigzag and do decorative stitches.
