You really are the best. You inspire me... I retire from the Army next year. I have done summer bwca trips as much as I can. I will be doing this (winter) in 2022. Thanks so much for sharing the way you do!!! I sincerely appreciate all your camping, and related content. I also appreciate your spin off stuff- the airplane and creating theater stuff that I have no idea about.... but love because it’s you.
The comments about how fast the day goes is definitely something I've noticed on winter trips, especially up where I camp in the boreal of northern Saskatchewan. The days are short and camp chores means it goes by quickly.
Shug, I enjoy all of your videos but this one, I just felt so mellow after watching it. The views. The editing, The third night sunset; It is well, it is well with my soul. Thanks.
It was a good idea going for just a campout rather than crushing miles on the trail. Looks like a blast. I wish I was there. AND, I got one of those little coffee funnel things for Christmas this year, too! Whoooooo Buddy!
Shug/Sean ... I can't thank you enough for making and sharing your video's of adventure! You've given me the knowledge and confidence to begin my own winter hammock camping trips, so far 2 under my belt! One in the Smokey Mountains and one on the shore of Lake Monroe in the Hoosier National Forest. I've even gotten my 16 old son to join me and we're enjoying our time together! I wish I were closer to you so as I could beg to join you on one of your adventures! Again ... THANK YOU!
Huh, I binged all your informational videos in your backyard early spring. I watch bits of your videos like this one when I can’t get out myself, but have been pretty good at making it out! I didn’t realize until now you are doing your own music to boot! Now I feel even less original, lol. Keep up the great work, it inspired me to get out there; thank you!
I finally got a chance to watch your video. The Shug winter videos are my favorite! Your fire was nice and I like the firebox. I have a small one and it works good.
Enjoyed the video, caught a little bit of The Falls of Richmond (Firebox stove theme). Sounded good! My wife made no clown reference, but walked in and said, "There's your friend." I like to think she's right. Thanks for posting!
Yes ! Time for a hammock camping adventure with Shug ! LOVE me some Firebox Stove !! Good times right there ! And, yeah, the body deserves freshly brewed coffee first thing in the morning.
Winter pulk hiking in MN looks like fun. But, good golly, looks cold. Here in Tennessee, there's a skim of snow on the car, and that's a snow apocalypse. I'll just tag along vicariously from the nice warm couch. Loved yer take on Whipping Post by the way.
Sometimes I feel like I’ve been tied to a whipping post too. I love that song and you did it justice! Sometimes I go back and listen to your video with you and Kelsey and the other guy (if I remember that name correctly) such good pickin n grinning
I'm so desperate to do a snow camp in the hammock but back in lockdown here in scotland. love watching your videos always learn something new about hammocks. All the best. Sam
Really loved hearing "Rabbit In the Log". Perfect for this setting! If you haven't heard it, Chris Thile and Michael Daves have a great take of that tune. That whole record is great, but that is a standout classic.
Thanks for sharing your trip. I've got the winter blues and haven't been able to psych myself up to brave the cold this year. Doesn't help that I'm short on hiking company; glad you've got good friends to go with ya.

Really nice video, I enjoyed it very much. I have never been snowshoeing or pulled a pull. But I have been on Snowbank, Parent, disappointment and that country in the summer on canoe trips. I spent nights out in my hammock at 18, 21, 25, 29 and so forth degrees. I have backpacked at -17, -10, -3 and so forth degrees. I still like winter camping. I took five teenagers out overnight just two nights ago. We had a successful trip with a low of 29 degrees with 2" of snow. Keep on camping.
No you did not invent it, are there red headed turks? But you placed it into my mind by translating it into a form understandable by hammock slugs like me. As my wife often asks “did you see that on a Shug Video? In this case she is correct. I watched the Shug Turkish Coffee Video and got me an Ibrik.
That's neat that you shared the firebox stove with us, I think it's a well thought out product, also Steve is a cool guy yours an his are me favorite camping channels.

That's a super nice lofted campsite all day all night, no matter the season! I've thought some about getting in axe like yours, Shug. For now, it's on my want list. My want list has one less entry though, as I bought some Empire Canvas and Wool boots this year (your inspiration)! WOW, talk about a game changer!
Thanks! Nice to see the Firebox in the northern winter woods! I have and love and use the stainless versions in the original and the Nano. Use and love the big one for camping. Used the Nano and a Trangia for backpacking for a while. Thanks to you I now use mostly the Fancy Feast for backpacking. Been thinking of trying the Fancy Feast and the Nano together for stability and versatility. Sometimes a tiny wood fire is a good thing. Wish I didn’t know what you were talking about with the “world weary” comments. Your videos help!
Awesome video... Great trip. Looked like a blast. Nice to see you getting back out into the winter woods. Enjoyed watching. Thank you for sharing, take care Shug.
