- Spanish mystical author Teresa of Avila famously envisioned the soul as a castle with seven inner "dwellings." In her book, The Interior Castle, she leads the reader through each of these dwellings and finally to the castle's innermost chamber, where we might apprehend a vision of God in God's oneness and enter into divine union. Here we survey these stages of the spiritual journey as described by Teresa.
This is part three in a four-part series on Christian mysticism:
1. "God is not good": Pseudo-Dionysius ( • "God is not good": Pse... )
2. God beyond God: Meister Eckhart ( • God beyond God: Meiste... )
3. Chambers of the soul: Teresa of Avila ( • Chambers of the soul: ... )
4. Nothing, nothing, nothing: John of the Cross ( • Nothing, nothing, noth... )
I’ve read St. Teresa for years, excellent talk, excellent series!!
This 4 part series has been excellent. Filled/confirmed some important gaps for me. Thank you very much. 🙏
🙏 looking forward to watching the St John of the cross video. Dark night of the soul such a head scratcher.
@@wungabunga Definitely ! There’s ! no way to conceptualize the dark night! The more you resist, the longer it will persist. As soon as I stopped trying to figure it out, it slowly got better. I had to surrender!
hoping you will get to Julian of Norwich someday🤞
Thank you very much for this work. I can feel that you actually apply in your life this things, and this makes it more than a lecture, but a spiritual guidance. Clear, calm, and humble , very beautiful 🙏
These are fantastic videos! Thank you so much! 🎉
really enjoying this series! new to your channel, just subscribed!!🙏😊
Super interesting, thanks for the quality lecture!
Create videos on letting Go by david hawkins and the untethered soul by micheal singer. Those books really helped me find peace and surrender
I was so intrigued by this video that I bought the book! I've also sent you (Jon) a message via the link on your website. Thanks for this intro to Teresa - such an interesting woman.

I have been experiencing for a while like Jesus has abandoned me in pray...I pray and feel like iam praying to the wall..I use to feel his presence very strongly before...and I have such a longing for him that I just cannot understand.
What year did the revised version come out? I want to be sure to get the right one
The 7 chambers is akin to the 7 chakras that yoga philosophy puts forward. Each chajra representing a growth from the gross body to the subtle and finally the 7th where union takes place
Not related in any way at all.
I second that it is not related at all, Catholic Mysticism is not compatable with any other for of spirituality
@@Fortitude333 i think you will find the phenomenology and mechanics of all contemplative “paths” are essentially the same. Its the metaphysics that differ
It is only akin if you make stuff up and imagine it
@@_sitting_duck_. Love your condescending and patronizing attitude. Enjoy imagining that you are very wise and see more than us
Saint Teresa of all came to me two years ago during my spiritual awakening while I was learning about the dark Knight of the soul, and I started seeing a lot of similarities in our lives from being self loathing in the beginning in the different stages of the soul journeys as I’ve been fascinated with it during my awakening. I saw the similarities. I was actually married a subdivision in Tampa in my in-laws mansion and a subdivision named Avila.. I was born in 66. 1515 Reduces to 66. Revelations the 66th book in the Bible, numbers the 4th my birthday 2/4 another 6 which mean harmony and balance himself between the spiritual and physical as well as unconditional love. I even had a transverberation of the heart, although I did not see an angel, just light in 2022z Nada is the emptiness, the quantum, the way is see it. I am not Catholic. I was raised in the church of Christ and Southern Baptist. I knew nothing of these things yet. She is so influential to me and my life as I write my book and I just had to share this with you, she was quite a marvelous woman that I can’t help with feet. is guiding me as I become a author & motivational speaker about spiritual awakening and the dark night of the soul. Which like her, I’ve had 2. The 1st spanned 20 yrs, the second, 2. Thanks for sharing her so eloquently as like her, I am a mystic!!!🙏❤️🥰💕😇
So you went through your "Dark night" and the best way for you to thank God is... to be a motivational speaker?
Not God but you huh... lol okay
@@ryanshiplett2464 More or less. At heart I’m a teacher! Eventually I hope for motivate more at the macro level!
Go for it! Those Southern Baptists need it!.. More of that European 'mystical' stuff, specially that of the Meister Eckhart's; If they can comprehend it, of course...
Hi there, you can’t be like her as she is a real Catholic 😮
@@Peter-x5k2jI disagree. She has a lot to teach h anyone who believe in the trinity.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
She , Saint Teresa would have been offended to have a translation to all spiritual seeks outside the Catholic spirituality for she believed there was no salvation outside Catholic Church . She died saying she had been a faithful daughter of Catholic Church so to work and promote a “loose” translation is a big betrayal to such a great Catholic Saint 😢
"I AM THE IMMACULATE DECEPTION"
I find the ecstasy stuff very strange with female Catholic saints 😮. Like i dont see this with Orthodox saints. Not in a sex kind of way ,the " Jesus pierced me with His arrow stuff". Anyway i dont mean to demean her or Catholics
I’m curious if you are a Christ lover?
Alice cooper said Jesus fixed him. Why should I follow this Lady if Alice Cooper gets to keep all his possessions and career? Jesus said he could. Who needs her?
