The fact that Nvidia 7 YEARS ago sold a mid-tier card with 8 GB of VRAM and another mid-tier card 7 years later, the 4060 ti STILL has 8GB of memory even though it's already not enough for games like hogwarts legacy is mind boggling.
Nvidia said that 8 GB of memory is compensated by a 256-bit bus (vs 192-bit on the RX 6700 XT). And that seemed to be true until developers started releasing games that suddenly started reserving 12GB, when by that time AMD had graphics cards starting at 12GB of the 3070 level. Hogwarts Legacy worked well on the PS5 console with 16GB GDDR6 shared memory between RAM/VRAM (probably 50/50 in most cases). But for some reason, on a PC, this game already needed 12GB (active memory, plus everything else for cache) of RAM and 11GB of VRAM. This is twice as much as the console has. Accurately under the RX 6700 XT - a competitor to the 3070.
The fact that dumbass people are still talking about vram, even though they still have no fucking clue what they are talking about says more about anything.

Funny that radeon 780M already beaten gtx970 in some newer titles I hope radeon 880M coming nxtyear can reach this level of performance,1080p shud be great for 1070
The 3070 was and still is a very excellent GPU. Especially considering it was only $499. It kills anything at 1080p, runs most games at 1440p without much issue, and can run a decent number of titles at 4k with respectable frames. And it does so at very reasonable power consumption. So no.
Dang virtually not difference. I was struggling to see any FPS differences even though the OSD showed a vast difference. But in reality, I wasn't seeing it except for the Witcher. 1070 is too good!
Thats because FPS isn't noticeable unless you're actually playing the game yourself. If you go from playing on a 1070 to a 4070 it would be a huge difference
1070 lower energy consumption and less load on the processor, extremely high fps is of no use to you if the game runs smoothly even at lower fps. I would rather buy a second 1070 and connect it in SLI.
the gtx1070 is a really good 1080p card. the 4070 is of course better but not as much as you would guess. Play at 2 or even 4k and you'll see that the 1070 is screaming. I wish you would shown it in your video
1080p make all cards look much closer and reduce the advantage of extra vram... Ofc if do this test on 4k old card would just run like total garbage... Maybe a 1440p test would be better...
something isnt right ive seen other channels 1070 can do above 60 to 70-80ish fps easily on high - very high but here it struggles to reach 40-50 something is very weired
So basically doubling performance every two years. Not bad. And the price ain't that bad either, I remember buying 1070 for 12900CZK (600 dollars) while 4070 - more than three times as fast - now costs 15000CZK (700 dollars, VAT included). Considering the inflation, the addition of DLSS3 and 4GB of extra memory, I find this pretty acceptable. Of course, I already have 3080Ti so no upgrade needed.
Yes... But I couldn't tell you which video came from which card in a blind test. Granted, that's the point of a blind test. Granted, the more advanced card would likely produce a higher resolution at the same framerate. To my mind, it's not worth the extra money for a new card if you already have 1070. The only reason to upgrade now is to stay ahead of driver updates. My brother's gtx 980 card stopped working for newer games, even though it has the specs
@@LowRiderFuckYou I gave him my 980 as a hand-me-down. It worked great for about every game he threw at it until Doom Eternal and Monster Hunter Rise came out, which required modern drivers and newer directx respectively.

4070 isn't a bad card, obviously the issue is it is just at a very bad price. Nvidia probably going to have a reality check as economies are going down the toilet and people just don't have that much money to burn
"very bad price" - I bought 1070 in may 2016 for 600 dollars and it was cheapest one on the market in my country. RTX 4070 costs now, seven years later, 700 dollars (prices with VAT). It has three times higher performance, DLSS3, 4 gigs extra memory. Sure it would be nice if it was also 600 dollars, but 100 dollar increase after 7 years, with the inflation we have, is not exactly horrible.
@@8Paul7 In the US, the 1070 had a 379 MSRP for the base model but a 449 MSRP for the Founder's Edition. Since the FE card was a pile of hot garbage, all AIB's charged $450 to 500 for the GTX 1070. what a resolution of the screen, u use in the test?
On my 1070 in Witcher 3 at 1440p I get a solid 60fps (vsync) (hairworks disabled) but in DX11 - it still looks great.
Think I'll hang on to my 1070
I should probably upgrade at this point, my 1070 still runs games fine but if I can double or tripple my performance I should probably upgrade.
Ha, same for me as well. Plus I want 60fps+ now for every game so I need to upgrade badly.
Same but gona go for the 5000 series since 12 g is not much when 1070 hade 8 it was wow 😳 last us many years but 12 won't cut it 16 is the minimum now
@@Oliver-sn4be Yeah I agree(I'm also a 1070 owner as well). I'll go for at least 16GB next and possibly 5000 series.
@@masterlee1988 save save up I already got pc case and fans since the dont replac them fast here so once sold ther gone 😂
@@Oliver-sn4be Ha, so true. Honestly, this is going to be one of my biggest upgrades ever when it comes to gpus.
adopters of Pascal currently enjoying actual future proof in practice. the only limit is NVIDIA willingness to enable that promise with driver support.
Processor is chilling 😂
Possible to do the same but in 1440p ?
No way 1070 can handle 1440p
7 years🎉🎉
hi first
RTX 4070 in Brazil costs 1200$ humans from all over the planet, help us!
Don't worry, pretty soon Brasil will adopt BRICS and everything will be better.
My 1070ftw is the best purchase i've ever made. 300€, 6 years in and still performing no problems. will probably upgrade to a 4070 soon.
Using an alienware 15 r3 since 2016 with a 1070 card. Recently swapped to 4070ti desktop and use laptop for light gaming, cad design, cam. Definitely got my moneys worth out of it.
Me watching the difference of GTX 1070 vs RTX 4070 in my laptop with a GTX 1060.
My 1070 still going strong, was considering replacing it with a 4060ti or RX 7700 xt still thinking about it. Honestly if I wasn't reading the FPS app on the screen I would not be about to tell the difference in the video.
i have the gtx1070 and have loved it and still do now. my card befor was a asus 970 2gb card and because it only had 2gb my games were struggling so i bought a second hand evga ftw 1070 8gb and that has worked very well and now i just bought parts for a new build and chose the gigabyte aero 4070ti and then after that i checked reviews and im not so happy but i know it will be way better than a 1070. i also got the aero motherboard coming and corsair titanium 7200 32gb 2x16gb and i also went with a i7 14700kf. even i know the pattern of 4070 with a i7 14700. 4090 with i9.
My 1070ti still runs games like a champ.
Wonder how much difference is on tensor flow?
Looks about the same to me. I've had the GTX1070 for like a decade now.... it's still going strong.
To be honest we should be selling at least from 16 - 24 GB of VRAM in 2023 BUT 7 YEARS NVIDIA still greedy in doing it.
Thanks for the content. Any chance you could show how the 2080ti holds up nowadays against the 4070? Not sure if its upgrade time or hold out for 5 series
hold for 5
The 4070 has 22% more performance than the 2080ti according to techpowerup. Focus on the 4070ti or higher or wait for the RTX 50.
I notice that my mobile 3070ti is the same performance to 1070 to play cp77 with the new overdrive mode, i locked at 30 fps... Its just looks so good😂
though 7 years for 70 to 3.5x times faster,
with good Eficiency ( 150W to 180W average )
and Twice Price at Release Date
That's the key isn't it; 3.5x faster, but 2x the price.
Cost per frame has barely moved in 7 years :(
I just bought my gaming buddy a 6950xt he currently has a 1070 and he plays at 1440p. Hell have the card in about 2 weeks. Hope he gets a lot of joy n gaming hours out of it 🤩. was trying to look up the kind of improvement he can expect from the upgrade. Thank you for uploading
6950? Rip friendship
Why are People still Complaining the VRAM Drama? Its fine, keep doing, i dont care.
12 to 16 vram will actually be a big difference especially last of us at 1440p
Funny that radeon 780M already beaten gtx970 in some newer titles
I hope radeon 880M coming nxtyear can reach this level of performance,1080p shud be great for 1070
The 4070 should have 16gbs of VRAM, 12gbs is not enough
Yep, that's why I'm skipping it.
40W more for 70-120fps gain... insane ngl
1070 was the last good 70 tier gpu.
I think vram is more important then memory Bus Bandwidth then tflops last for pc gaming
Most is unplayable 😅 I have the gtx 1070. It's very gpu heavy . Having 12th gen Intel processor and above is definitely what u need for this game
Both Cards are 99% in Use. 😂 4070 needs for an 10 Year Old game still 100% for the same view bit 70 fps more
RTX: 60FPS(60 Frames Per Second)
Intel HD: 60 SPF(60 Seconds Per Frame)
upgrading from the 1070 to this card this week
Meh, after 7 years they could and should have done way more than this😅
Gtx 1070 is a solid card for 50-60fps in games with high settings for 1080p
yeah but a lot of people bought it for 1440p so
@@portman8909 Yep, I bought it for 1440p years ago(and still have it) and now I need a massive upgrade from it for 3440x1440.
in the past 7 years i learned to build pc's without nvidia zzz
1070 lower energy consumption and less load on the processor, extremely high fps is of no use to you if the game runs smoothly even at lower fps. I would rather buy a second 1070 and connect it in SLI.
so sad to see gtx 1070 is obselete in front of new games now :(
It's not the card, but the games that are utterly crap ! 😀
I guess it's 1080p? Or 1440p?
1440
witcher 3 avg 34 fps?? i played on 1070 and i have 60-70 fps on fullhd ultra
El video esta corriendo juegos en 1440p
the gtx1070 is a really good 1080p card. the 4070 is of course better but not as much as you would guess. Play at 2 or even 4k and you'll see that the 1070 is screaming. I wish you would shown it in your video
Waited the video :)) Would be nice if 47 costed same like 17, but Hoyang the Leather fkn Jacket hungers.
1080p make all cards look much closer and reduce the advantage of extra vram... Ofc if do this test on 4k old card would just run like total garbage... Maybe a 1440p test would be better...
Happy with my 1070 STILLLLL :-)
Crappy games ARE obsolete !
Can't find a 3050 vs 4070 video so I'd settle with this one.
something isnt right ive seen other channels 1070 can do above 60 to 70-80ish fps easily on high - very high but here it struggles to reach 40-50 something is very weired
@Michael Brennock what ?? Hahah
@@LowRiderFuckYou I gave him my 980 as a hand-me-down. It worked great for about every game he threw at it until Doom Eternal and Monster Hunter Rise came out, which required modern drivers and newer directx respectively.
Dude where did you buy GTX 1070 for 600$, you gave too much. I bought Gigabyte GTX 1070 G1 Gaming brand new for about 460 euros almost seven years ago and i still use it.
Gtx 1070 отличная карта и в 2023 году.

4070 should have at least 16gb vram
You all have to count 1: dlss3 deliver 30% more fake fps. 2: power consumption is more than 2 times. That mean we have totally not to buy 4000 series
200 - 250 % more fbs
Ahh my old gtx 1070 is finally starting to age.....

I would like to compare 4070 to 7800xt at 4k 12 vs 16 gb vram whenever that comes out
yo he pospuesto mi compra de pc por esa razon, esperare a la 7800xt, esos 16gb por unos 600$ se ven bien
None of those cards are intended for 4k gaming. 4K minimum 4080.
in 7 years the vram just increase only 4gb lol
Yep, it should had been more than that!
I have same fps on 1060 an 3070 laptops on COD Black Ops 4 on 4k resolution. I think that Nvidia is a scam they just bump fps software wise. Gretzz.
7 years, only 4gb more vram
4GB of vram costs 25$ to produce, it's expensive.
Right before Ethereum mining got big in 2017, I remember seeing some triple fan GTX 1070's going for the $380 MSRP, and the GTX 1080 was around $500.
@@8Paul7 Like the other person said, the US prices were lower. I just checked my old July 2016 order: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 1070 for 429.99 dollars (a little more with tax and rush processing). I'm sure I could've gotten a cheaper one, but people kept recommending that particular one, and it's been an excellent card ever since. The 4070ti is literally double the price of that, it's been a huge shock to me as I haven't been keeping up with pc part prices in years.
4070 SUCH A FAIL CANT BEAT THE 3080 LOOL
Alright now the 4060 ti
Is Good upgrade for 1070
"Upgrade", same amount of VRAM, half the Bus width, after 7 years, nice!
intel and amd developers need to
improve igpu`s because gpus are seems to be expensive like kidneys.
I had a nice PC from 2016 with a GTX 1070. I was thinking about building a new PC and selling my old PC for a RTX 4070 but this past winter there was a great deal on a PC with a RTX 3080 in it for $1499 so it was hard for me to pass on that and I didn't have to wait or do work on building. I don't think a 4070 would be an upgrade or 4070ti so I will probably wait until the 5080 comes out before upgrading or get a new PC in 5 years.
the 3080 has the same performance as the 4070 with a deviation of 5%, it would not make sense to switch from one to the other, at the very least you will have to wait for the 5 or 6 series
1.5x more expensive for 1.5x more vram and 3x the performance, huh so bad
Reason im going 7800xt whenever that comes out from my 3060ti
Really, the 4070 should be compared to the 1080 because they were on the same price bracket
cyberpunk really doesnt like pascal cards
GTX 1070 can run better in SLI Mode!!!
