    Vanderbilt mansion / New York / Recent / ENT3
Luxury New York pad up for sale
The most expensive house in New York is finally going under the hammer. The famous Fabbri House is on sale for thirty million dollars. Unquestionably the finest Beaux Arts mansion built in New York, the mansion was owned by Mrs Elliott F Shepard, one of William H Vanderbilt's daughters. The fabulously rich Vanderbilts still controlled their stretch of Fifth Avenue at the turn of the century, when the house was appropriated by Mrs Shepard and remodelled for her daughter Edith who was married to Ernesto Fabbri.
The house was modelled on the French classical design bearing all
the hallmarks of an obsession with grandiose elegance. The Vanderbilt family wealth was based on the railways.

This is my favorite Manhattan townhouse. I love all the details. There are a lot of details but it isn't gaudy. They work seamlessly, yet distinctively, together.

Beautiful! I hope it does not get chopped up for apartments.

Thank you for posting! I read this was bought by the Japanese government in 2001, for $21.5 million, but not sure if it was for sale again in 2015 when this video was posted. I think in 1941, the house was foreclosed on, then bought out of bankruptcy in 1943 ( had already passed out of Vanderbilt family hands, I think, as early as the mid 19-teens (1912?) Originally built for Edith Vanderbilt Shepard Fabbri by her mother Margaret Louisa Vanderbilt, daughter of William Henry Vanderbilt. late reply but, going by similar properties this one would be assesed at around 40 million, and at a ny property tax rate of .90%, yearly taxes for this house would be around 360k
