      That's it mate, I always take my first line from the existing house. If we were to square it another way...it could actually make the extension look "on the wonk" from the original house. And for this reason, I always follow what's there

    Izzy not sure if you ever do this but we mix white glue in our mortar mix for repointing. The glue is added on our mortar board stage. Works fantastic. It is also used when parging because it allows the mortar to stick to suspect surfaces.

    • @IzzytheBricky

    • @edskapin7171
      @edskapin7171 Год назад

      @@IzzytheBricky Any white glue such as carpenter glue, Weld bond or Elmo's Glue. You only mix it in small amounts on your mud board. As you know in high traffic areas where rowlocks and mitres are getting bumped or messed with adding abit of bond agent helps long terms performance. Also if you have applications when parging on masonry keeps falling off adding the glue fixes that problem . We have more snow than you by a mile. That being said in areas where snow and ice accumulate it creates a more solid surface when moisture can't penetrate the joints. Cheers from across the pond.

    You do great videos and also great work! I see you doing all kinds of foundations under your brick, but I haven’t been able to understand what depths you’re working with. I live in the USA, specifically a NW suburb of Chicago. Here in his area we have yellow clay, it’s so hard. Our frost line is 42” (107cm or 1070mm) and our foundations must be to this level. I built a deck 16’ x 48’….20 years ago. It needed 13 concrete posts, 48” deep. My home has a basement so it’s footing is 9’+ in the ground. Comment?

  • @rafafederer832
    @rafafederer832 Год назад

    The level threshold regulations were confusing when we had patio put in. Ended up with patio sloping away from house and an extra aco along the house. Seemed to be a lot of conflicting advice out there. Some patio layers said flat no has to be 150 mm lower, one joker wanted to lean patio toward house as it meant less digging out, I told him no chance. Shame u don’t live anywhere near me or I’d love to employ some boys who actually turn up every day and do a top job. I currently have half a drive down, and a half finished wall, my boys disappeared last Friday lunchtime for a heavy drinking weekend with the rugby being on. Fingers crossed they turn up today. To stop the damp if ground is high bring a wide damp from dpc hight up the back of the inner skin then back over to the outside on 2 or 3 course up. Impossible for damp to transfer to the inside. To keep the blues from sinking simply don't gouge the muck bed. They then don't sink

    Had the building inspector out on my job today and has said that cavities need to be 150mm wide, after it’s all been built, now having to insulate board the inside to meet his requirement. Have you had to do anything like this yet? Can keep a 100mm cavity and use celotex instead of cavity slabs I guess. Everyone I’ve spoke to still use cavity slabs and it’s fine🤦🏻‍♂️

    If cavity-wall insulation is to be used , it can ONLY be installed from the VERY START of construction of the cavity-walls and there SHOULD be a LARGE air space gap in-between the face of the insulation and the OUTER WALL inside the cavity ; this includes an air space gap in between the face of the insulation and the cavity-wall-tie drip point which is in the centre of the cavity.
    Ask N.V.Q. BRICKWORK teachers for PROOF of this !
