For those who claim that this is one underrated song, a lost masterpiece, overlooked, forgotten, underappreciatted etc I can say Ive been listening to this in Greek radio since the middle 80s. Its been played in pubs, bars, cafes for around 40 years here. Its all in the perceptive and the taste.
Well now Mr .Meatdrapes, just because a comment section exists doesn't mean you have to write one. Please keep that in mind the next time you feel the need to over react. Just remember, no one actually cares. Now, get back in line Meatdrapes.
@@davidcashell4860 Hmm. Another free speech fascist coming from the democratic superior (but ignorant to the hell) west. Such grandiose argument. Such a decaying, decadent culture full of substandard subjects. Shock and awe. Not.
Saw Cat People in the theater & loved it the whole soundtrack was eerie & this song capped it off. I bought the LP! My youngest brother was in HS & brought it into school. Had a teacher that was a big Bowie fan & he hadn’t heard about it. It wasn’t till years later that my teenage son explained to me the reason I liked this song, Call Me by Debbie Harry, theme to Midnight Express, Donna Summer’s I Feel Love was because they were all produced by Georgio Moroder!
Isn’t it amazing that 90 percent of movies use music from the 80’s that’s a great testament to to sound of that era, and most commercials as well rock on
this movie was one of favorite horror movies! love pathers! understand this song to much! have allot of anger in me.. and rage builds up! and it gets so intense! sometimes my body hurts so much that I like to break free! beautiful song too!
Brilliant stuff thanks for taking the time to do that. I found it so easy to read the lyrics whilst trying to sort out the guitar chords for the main riff. Excellent!
Outstanding song. Perfect in the World War II movie. Every time I hear the beginning of this song, the hair on the back of my neck stands up cause I know how good it is.
Whoever thinks Inglorious Basterds is a "boring/bad/crap/etc." movie doesn't know, clearly, anything about WW2...it's the perfect ending to what it really was and Quentin Tarantino portraid what the 40s were like during the Third Reich increadibly well!
See these eyes, so green I can stare for a thousand years Colder than the moon It's been so long Feel my blood enraged It's just the fear of loosing you Don't you know my name? I think it's great that I know this song from both Cat People and Inglourious Basterds. Though Cat People was a bit dissapointing, I can remember the good bits with this song.
Not simply a great poet and artist, his words tell us that the way forward for the human race, personally and socially (what used to be called 'nationally' in the 20th and 21st centuries, when this nonsensical concept was developed) is for us to stop bombing each other, and to develop the ability to talk. It took a while, but eventually, we got there. Words not bombs.
If a really popular movie comes out with this as a theme song and it gets misused, (like I'm Still Standing in Sing), lemme just say I was here before any movie. All viewers count as my witnesses.
Great ,great song, just wish the slow start and his extra low singing had went on longer! Sexy cat person with stalking potential lol. Lovely, ominous...
I went to see the movie. Because of David Bowie, of course. Can't remember the movie... Were cats? Many, many years later, I learned that the movie was a remake from the 1940's... Well. Gasoline was played in every disco for months and months. I must have danced to it hundreds of time. What was the film about? Were cats, not were wolves... 🤭
What is everyone's most underrated Bowie song...? Mine is... 'When I'm Five'. A funny clever portrayal of naive, yet heartbreaking childhood. 'I'll marry my mum'. ;)

One of my absolute favorite movies
@Jimmy Jones I bet he had no idea his mom had two vaginas
This number is very apt in Inglorius Basterds with Shossana in focus.Seems like it is just made for IB.

I never overlooked this song the master RIP
Yes all the words. Love this song. I'm a child of the 80's and I love it. Doesn't get any better than this.
This song is up there with “Sympathy for the Devil”, “Don’t Fear the Reaper”, and “Stairway to Heaven”.
I love Don’t Fear the Reaper. This is a different song but it does breath the same air

Fun fact:
All of those songs were recorded on the same planet.
Nothing says "I'm gonna burn down a theatre full of Nazis" quite like this... RIP David
Damm right!
Hell yeah!!!!!
Almost as if Tarantino wrote the film to fit the song!
Well yeah, sorry to ruin your dreams (actually not sorry) but David was a fascist.
drgfl01 Not quite ruined my dreams. Have you seen the film?
"And I've been putting out fire with gasoline!" Awesome
Just watched Atomic Blonde...again. needed to hear this entire song and see the words. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your effort!!!!🤩
One of his classics - maybe bit more under rated than other more well known ones. Go well...
One of my favorites! Love this song. It gives me chills. LOL

I may be an alchoholic. learning early at age 31. this song has meaning beyond most understand. listen again with an open mind!
Literally no one knows this song. How is it not one of the best hits of all time and a chart topper? Why? Just why?
I think, I know why....😞
This is what's wrong with America!
Oh?, I have to disagree with you. It was well known in the early 80's.
Rest in peace David bowie. He is now singing and bringing entertainment to the angels in heaven. Rest in peace David.
Brilliant stuff thanks for taking the time to do that. I found it so easy to read the lyrics whilst trying to sort out the guitar chords for the main riff. Excellent!
I heard that song in Inglourious Basterds & The Office (episode Cafe Disco).
Was it Ryan who started the fire. Or was it that fellow Utavitch? (Both played by BJ Novak)
Bowie's best song as far as I am concerned.
Very well done- thank you :)
I love David Bowie.

You forgot "puttin out the fire" on one occasion (close to the end), but you´ve done a fabulous job! Sung along. Brilliant!
Bunny Blonde, you should see Cat people the 1982 version, that's what got me wanting more.
The world's first ever beat drop was in 1982 by David Bowie in this song.
Outstanding song. Perfect in the World War II movie. Every time I hear the beginning of this song, the hair on the back of my neck stands up cause I know how good it is.
Great song, great David Bowie.

Thanks for this nice video..very cool lyrics..
See these eyes, so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Colder than the moon
It's been so long
Feel my blood enraged
It's just the fear of loosing you
Don't you know my name?
Well, you've been so long
And I've been putting out fire
With gasoline
See these eyes, so red
Red like jungle burning bright
Those who feel me near
Pull the blinds and change their minds
It's been so long
Still this pulsing night
A plague I call a heartbeat
Just be still with me
You wouldn't believe what I've been through
You've been so long
Well, it's been so long
And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline
Putting out the fire
With gasoline
See these tears, so blue
An ageless heart that can never mend
These tears can never dry
A judgement made can never bend
See these eyes, so green
I can stare for a thousand years
Just be still with me
You wouldn't believe what I've been through
You've been so long
Well, it's been so long
And I've been putting out the fire with gasoline
Putting out fire
With gasoline
well, it's been so long
(Been so long) I've been putting out fire
(Been so long) and it's been so long
(Been so long) been putting out fire
(Been so long) it's been so long
(Been so long) been putting out fire
(Been so long)
Been so long (so long, so long)
Been so long (so long, so long)
Been putting out fire (been so long, so long, so long)
Been putting out fire (been so long, so long, so long)
Been so long
been putting out fire
(Been so long, so long, so long) been putting out fire
(Been so long, so long, so long) been so long

I'm from Greece and yet I agree:)
I am Greek and i am with you!
i just discovered that at 1:09 Bowie says "sees these eyes" not "see these eyes", this changes a lot the meaning
putting out the fire with gasoline .... Wow .... eerily spooky great lyrics ... makes me want to howl to this day ...
Ετσι ρε! Bowie Forever!
