  • Stuart VE9CF's First Activation in New Hampshire at US-2654 and KFF-2654
Stuart VE9CF recently completed his first-ever activation in New Hampshire, targeting the dual-designated US-2654 (Parks on the Air, POTA) and KFF-2654 (World Wide Flora and Fauna, WWFF) sites. This super quiet park, part of the expansive 6,675-acre Gile State Forest, provided the perfect setting for an amateur radio activation while traveling through the Granite State.
The Park: Gardner Memorial Wayside Park
Gardner Memorial Wayside Park, located on Route 4A in Wilmot, New Hampshire, is a small but charming public recreation area. It offers a variety of outdoor activities, including picnicking, a half-mile hiking trail leading to the scenic Butterfield Pond, and fishing in a brook that was once home to a mill in the 1800s. The park's serene environment made it an ideal location for Stuart's activation, ensuring minimal interference and a peaceful backdrop for radio operations.
    The Activation Setup
Stuart employed his trusty 20m MFJ 2220 Telescopic whip dipole for his activation. This choice of equipment proved effective, allowing him to net an impressive 256 QSOs (contacts) during his time at the park. The 20m band is known for its versatility and reliable propagation characteristics, making it a popular choice among amateur radio operators for local and long-distance communications.
    Results and Experience
Stuart's activation at Gardner Memorial Wayside Park was a resounding success. The park's quiet nature, coupled with his well-prepared setup, enabled him to make a significant number of contacts. This achievement not only highlights the park's potential as an excellent site for future activations but also showcases Stuart's skills and dedication as an amateur radio operator.
In summary, Stuart VE9CF's first activation in New Hampshire at US-2654 and KFF-2654 was a memorable and fruitful experience. With its tranquil setting and natural beauty, Gardner Memorial Wayside Park provides the perfect environment for a successful amateur radio activation. This event underscores the appeal of exploring and activating parks within the Granite State, offering both a rewarding hobby and an opportunity to connect with nature.
