  • Welding is something I've wanted to do for a long time and recently picked up a Lotos welder to give it a try. My first project was making a table to serve as a work surface in the garage documented in this video. Also, I accidentally caught my new Ryobi miter saw on fire! After the welding table is finished, stay tuned to hear my initial thoughts on the welder and the two helmets I ended up buying and why.
    Special thanks to a friend and welding authority Earl for gifting me a few items seen in this video including the metal cart and argon gas tank!
    IMPORTANT NOTE: Use a high level of safety precautions if attempting an activity such as welding. Wear appropriate safety equipment, exercise good judgment when operating machinery in the workshop. If you are a minor / under 18 years of age, be sure to have supervision alongside an adult who has extensive welding experience.

    Trying something different here, let me know what you think! Have you tried welding? Do you have an interest in it?

      Hey! I bought this machine and haven't been able to get the HF start to work. Can you confirm with me that it works the way I think it does? How I understand it is, the arc starts when your tungsten is close to the material and you hit the button on the torch or the foot pedal. I've been scratch starting and the machine works fine otherwise.

    You did a good job with the welding table; this is something that I have done for myself and for other people. Two thumbs up!

    Wow thanks for the video! I'm a mechanical engineering student, I do a lot of small metalworking projects, and I need to weld aluminum. Looks like the Lotos is a good machine, trying to find something affordable! Thank you for such a well-made and interesting video with so much information about the welder!

      @@MooreapprovedI just ordered one today. Quick question: what size torch did yours come with? Did it have multiple collets for different size electrodes? Or should I order some. I heard it came with some but I couldn't find what size.

    • @Mooreapproved
      @Mooreapproved  4 года назад

      It's a #17. It really has everything you need to get started and mine came with 4 different collets. You'll have to grind the stock 3/32 tungsten to a point before use though. Check out some of your local welding supply stores for "cool" stuff to add on. (You'll pretty much have to go there anyway to grab an argon tank) But make sure you check the same item online versus the in-store price before you buy as sometimes the price in-store can sometimes be way more expensive. How do you like the machine so far though?

      How are u liking it after a year is it good quality

    • @thomasmills6789
      @thomasmills6789 3 года назад +1

      Yes, it has been working fantastic this year! Welds great on aluminum, and also everything else I try. Plenty of amperage, the only thing holding you back is the torch heating up if you don’t have a water cooler.

    Nice welder! This brand is in the dark and frankly I don’t know why. I have the LOTOS LTPDC2000D (the RED one), purchase at Home Depot on late 2017, and it’s been a good solid machine. I wanted to try out the plasma cutting feature because for 20 years I had been using oxy-acetylene to cut metal at my auto repair shop and a HOBART Stickmate LX 235 AC/160 DC for Stick and TIG. This is cumbersome equipment and difficult to move around. I wanted to shift from heavy to light weight. And the LOTOS was the one.

    Whats the popping at the beginning of the welding shots? Is that the electromagnetic energy from the welder overloading the camera?

    Hi, I have been watching your videos where you bought the Pelican Catch 130 and the one where you caught a big snook with it, and I wanted to know how well the kayak has stood the test of time. I live in the keys and have been looking for a pedal kayak that can help me fight stong winds and current, because hand pedaling through them can be really slow and tiring. I also like to fish. How fast is it and how does it handle waves.

    • @Mooreapproved
      @Mooreapproved  4 года назад +1

      I haven't had any issues whatsoever with the 130. I can pedal the Yak 5-6mph. Your legs will get sore the first couple of outings.. Once you build up your stamina it's the easiest thing ever. It's a really stable platform compared to my Eddyline. I couldn't even stand up on that platform when the water was like glass. As for wind, I typically don't go out if they are over 9mph. Around 9-13mph the waves start breaking and that's not a good scenario to be in. It handles small waves pretty well. I haven't come across anything higher that maybe 1'. If a boat wakes me and is pushing a ton of water I just face into the wake to avoid any flipping scenarios. EliasV does a ton of offshore fishing on his hobie and he does occasionally talk about weather conditions and what he feels comfortable with when deciding to go out. Wind and waves really aren't favorable to any Yak... So if you do pick up a new Yak and go out be safe! Hope this helps! Let me know if you pick one up!

    So if you think the helmet is worth 3 times more than the one you are throwing in the trash, isn't that applicable to the Miller welder too?

    • @Somun-a
      @Somun-a 3 года назад

      Well, you be the judge but the welder seems to be functioning as it should but the helmet was not. I also bought the same machine but went for a Lincoln Electric helmet as I read many reviews on the cheap import helmets not registering the arc and flashing the user.

    Nice runthrough!
    Were you using the welder at 220V input or 110V?

    • @Mooreapproved
      @Mooreapproved  4 года назад +2

      I was running off of 110v. Didn't have any issues. I even cranked it up to 115 amps on the inside corner joints.

    Great video! Have you tested it on some thin gauge aluminum yet? If not could possibly make a video welding some thin wall pipe or sheet as i feel that most buyers looking at this welder are interested in it for its low price point for AC hf aluminum!

      Hi some time you get lucky at a pawn shop. I pickup an arc one had the 4 sensors had broken head band for $20. 5 years ago l paid $120 for northern tool welding helmet also has 4 sensors never been flashed. That helmet was on Jody tips and tricks review.

      I'm planning on building some aluminum racks for the garage in the future. Figured that would be a good project to test out its aluminum welding capabilities.
