    The sales volume determines your monthly plan tier is the biggest BigGcommerce drawback.
    Especially if you are drop shipping products with thousands of dollars worth!

    Did a whole lot of a research on this thing, but this was the best source of information on Spotify vs. Bigcommerce. Now I'm confident what I'm going to choose!

    Man, this is by far the best delivery of any eCommerce information I've found. I'll definitely be watching more of your videos in the future. I've just started making my own performance automotive parts and selling with WooCommerce. I really like being able to customize my site and not have to pay for anything outside of a few premium plugins and web hosting. What's frustrating is how things seemingly break over night, which already has me looking into another platform. I'm willing to trade some customization for stability.
    Shopify looks great but the whole subscription based apps are a real turnoff when most plugins for Woo/WP are free or a one time fee. BigCommerce seems to have what I want, if I could afford the enterprise edition for custom filters, which isn't in the cards for a small business just getting off the ground. I feel like I'm looking for some holy trinity that doesn't exist: custom filters, stable, and affordable. Can you tell me if I'm overlooking something here or if there are any alternatives you'd recommend?

      @eCommerceAholic  4 года назад +1

      Trevor, Thanks! I understand the complexities of Automotive with fitment/ACES/PIES data. If you are manufacturing performance parts, then you probably have selected a small niche of cars. If that's the case, then you probably can just use categorization instead of filtering for a lot of what you want to accomplish.
      You are right in that the "perfect" platform for small merchants that need flexibility at a low price point doesn't exist. If you want to discuss it, go to Jamersan.com and submit the contact form. I'll reply and book some time. Happy to advise once I know more about what you are doing.

    I just came from your video promoting BigCommerce over Shopify and I am still tilting towards BigCommerce. What we need is an international B2B as well as a B2C platform and BigCommerce seems to fulfill that requirement. The transaction fees are an issue, looks more cost effective on BC. A few questions 1) Can BigCommerce sell in multiple languages? 2) Can BigCommerce set country-specific domains to optimize international SEO? and 3) Can BigCommerce set individual product prices for different countries/regions?

    I had a Shopify store from 2015 until the end of 2018. I had a series of fraud purchases within a 3 day period during the Christmas season. I denied all sales and notified Shopify Customer service. They promptly closed my account due to fraud. Yeah. So now I'm using another site. Up until then, I was satisfied with Shopify. It was user friendly.

      I hate to hear that. There's definitely some risk in not having all of the control. Unfortunately, control is expensive.

    Great analysis as usual! Shopify are genius at marketing their services to different channels, eg. Affiliates, etc. But as you mentioned, it's their vision that makes them strong (also reflected on their stock prices). Big commerce is definitely better for a more robust ecommerce functionality, tho. Tks for the nice reviews!

    Hey man! I watched both of your videos (they were very informative) I am currently trying to pick between the two platforms and probably the biggest thing I'm looking at is payment gateways. It doesn't matter to me about their themes or even how complex the backend is. My biggest problems are trying to avoid payment holds on paypal and shopify payments. Thanks!

    • @eCommerceAholic
      @eCommerceAholic  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for the kind words. It sounds like you have your answer. You have more (cheaper) payment options on BigCommerce.

    • @flyguynoaholdksa5461
      @flyguynoaholdksa5461 4 года назад +1

      eCommerce-Aholic does bigcommerce have its own version of “shopify payments” ? I just don’t like the fact how PayPal will hold funds when you need it the most. If I didn’t use PayPal would I have to use another payment gateway like authorize.net or does it have its own version of “Shopify payments”

    • @eCommerceAholic
      @eCommerceAholic  4 года назад +2

      @@flyguynoaholdksa5461 Not to my knowledge. You need an actual gateway and merchant processor. Paypal can hold funds on PayPal payments, but I don't think it does it on its merchant services (Paypal Braintree).

    I have a bigcommerce store. I want to move to shopify but the shopify url structure is a problem. Will they ever offer a custom url structure so I can retain my current urls? Even using 301 directs, don't you think google ranking will be lost?

    • @eCommerceAholic
      @eCommerceAholic  4 года назад

      You'll definitely lose your URL structure with that move and I don't anticipate an update to their URL structure in the near term future. Usually, a change like that can result in an organic traffic dip, but if done correctly will usually rebound.
      What problems are you having with BigCommerce that you think Shopify will solve?

    • @aratrex
      @aratrex 4 года назад +2

      @@eCommerceAholic I feel limited by BC. I usually learn from Shopify to figure out BC. When I see a store I like, it's usually Shopify. BC seems to be behind Shopify on most everything. EX: I'm currently working with BC for a simple sitewide top banner! They don't even have that. It's taken a bit of coding and it's not even that good. But my main concern is losing my url structure, that's why I haven't moved to Shopify. When I moved to BC many years back, even with 301 directs, it killed my organic seo... and it has never recovered. I'm currently paying an seo team $ to see what they can do. In my experience, seo on BC has been a disaster. Maybe because my product is image driven, and BC wiped my images from Google since their templates were extremely image unfriendly. After many years of bad template design, they are finally working this problem out. Google is starting to re-index the images. Shopify stores never had the same image problem. I think these platforms are good for newbies or if you have big bucks. But for the middleman, it's a rough ride.

    • @eCommerceAholic
      @eCommerceAholic  4 года назад +1

      Often times, platforms get the blame or the credit when it should fall to whoever developed the site. Make sure you know what percentage of your conversions come from organic traffic so you at least know the risk.
      Do what you feel is best for your business, of course. Could those features help you grow the business and overcome the potential dip in organic SEO? Could those tools help you actually improve your SEO? If the risk is worth the features you want, then make the move.
      However, I wonder if you have an old/outdated BC implementation and refreshing your look and feel with a modern theme that uses their drag and drop page builder would solve a lot of your problems without the risk of the URL changes?
      It's a tough problem to advise in the comments on RUclips, for sure.

    WTF? i was just watching you praise and push for Bigcommerce from another video and then this follows up with it. And these 2 videos are only a week apart. What is your stance??

    • @eCommerceAholic
      @eCommerceAholic  3 года назад +4

      I think you mis-understood. I don't push anything. There is no "best" ecommerce platform, only what's best for your business (and that varies for each company's needs). So, in these I give you 5 reasons that either might be the better choice for you and let you make the decision based on your needs.
      All of these videos should specifically mention that there's another side to the argument and either link to that video or let you know that it was coming shortly after that one was released. .
