The Baroness has had a surprisingly complicated life! It reminds me that in a way, COBRA always had the last laugh, sure, they constantly failed to conquer the world, but in many ways, they were more complex and entertaining than G.I. JOE!
Baroness was my favorite character of the GI Joe universe. Most of my friends' favorite character was either Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow, but I was a Baroness guy. lol
One of my all time favorite characters of anything. I think a series focused on her and the beginnings of cobra is the best idea for anything live action
Ah, the Baroness, quite likely the first "waifu" crush I had. (Well, her or Evil-Lynn.) If anyone who wants to see more of her - in more ways than one - I would recommend the episode "The Gamemaster". Not only does this episode cement her role as a "cartoon sex symbol" (read: Baroness wearing a bikini) it gives her quite a bit of independence as a character: Cobra Commander: Whose side are you on? Baroness: Why, the same side you are, Commander. My own.
I FINALLY got to meet, Morgan Lofting the original voice of The Baroness and that was one of the best days ever! I admittedly told her that I hated the DIC series. But she played the character well and I told her she was one of the reasons why I could stomach the 90's version.
I would only count Larry Hama's work in anything Joe related. The absolute failure of Sitterson is high on my reasons why. He had no respect for the franchise, the readers, or the military in general. This is a trend that continues with the secondary title writers to this day.
Ahh Barnoness. Quite possibly the first comic book character I had a crush on. (I'm a few weeks shy of forty so my memory of when such things started and orders of crushdom are vague. I'm all but certain she was the first comic book bad girl I had a crush on at least since most of my early comic crushes were firmly on the hero side.
The reason why the glasses look became so sexy and dangerous at the same time, who said that brunettes with guns didn't have fun, well certainly the Baroness did, great job.
In the G.I. Joe live action movie The Baroness was only engage to Duke they wasn't married yet when Rex her brother died. He broke off the engagement because he didn't want to face her after the death. She is truly one of the most iconic deadliest villain and the sexiest.
Are they going to retcon the Vietnam War origins for a lot of characters? The war ended almost 50 years ago and a lot of people who served or were adults during that era are in their late 60s-70s.
I didn't like the way when The 2009 Live Action GI Joe movie made ships out Duke and Baroness love relationship I always prefered Barroness and Destro's relationship.
You made a reference to the AK-47 and then added Kalashnikov's afterwards That's actually kinda redundant seeing as The AK-47 is a Kalashnikov rifle (Avodomat Kalashnikov model 1947)
Karl Smith I definitely see your point. The reason I make the point to include his name is that the AK is one of the most replicated firearms in the world. It’s not just a weapon made exclusively in Russia any more. I feel like adding Kalashnikov helps make that distinction
Baroness reminds me so much of Bayonetta. She's a video game witch with long black hair who wears glasses and a leather catsuit, yet she carries 4 red guns, two in her hands, and two behind her feet!!
they are doing a team-up universe in the comics. M.A.S.K , GI Joe and Transformers plus some other hasbro and takara properties. In this new comic team-up universe, most of earth’s advanced technology came from various alien space wreckage.
Love what you are trying to do but please slow down & give us 1 version of the back story at a time. Start with the Marvel story then IDW take on the back story!
She was originally in Order of Battle Number 3, not 10. Also, it was Destro and Dr. Mindbender, who looked for all the remains to help create Serpentor. You also left out she was an expert Rattler pilot.
If she's proficient with the AK-47 of course she's proficient with the Kalashnikov. They're the same weapon. AK-47 was a designation used by NATO and, in reference to the very first stamped receiver model, the Izmech factory. In Eastern Bloc use it was called Automat Kalashnikov or AK, followed by a type designation and S for folding stock variants, e.g. AK Type 1, AKS Type 1, ending after the second milled steel receiver folding stock AKS Type 3 with the modernized stamped steel receiver AKM and AKMS. AKs weren't given model year designations in service until the AK-74 was introduced.
Jeremy Shelton You’re absolutions right. I mentioned to another commenter that the AK is one of the most replicated, copied firearms in the world and I feel like adding the Kalashnikov designation helps make that distinction. She’d be proficient in the copies of course too but in my head canon she trained with an original Soviet issue firearm
I do admit freely that I enjoy a little Baroness and long, lingering full body shots of drawings of her. Cause I'm a guy. As a kid, I was amazed when I got her as an action figure as a birthday present and she had long, rubber hair! I wished Scarlett and Cover Girl would have had the rubber hair but alas, such is the continuing evolution of action figures. Who says boys don't like female action figures? Baroness is awesome and I can't imagine Cobra without her!
To anyone interested; some things to think about, concerning the newly introduced 6 inch Hasbro G.I. Joe action figures, specifically: the G.I. Joe "Snake Eyes Origins Movie" ones. Hear me out ... I suddenly had an awesome plotline thought come to me, I began to invent an ongoing story in the original comic story, all because the "Snake Eyes Origins Baroness" looked more like a much younger Baroness; no, ... actually, I began to imagine: What if she's really the daughter of Baroness!?! ... What if, Anastasia Decobray became pregnant by James McCullen Destro during a lull in Cobra activities!?! But how would the Baroness go through a pregnancy?! I gave it some thought and concluded that the moment she found out, she would go to Dr. Mindbender and demand he destroy it immediately! However, after putting the Baroness to sleep, Dr. Mindbender instead puts her into the Brain Wave Scanner and makes her subservient to carrying and birthing the baby! Because the chance to find out what the offspring of the Baroness and Destro would be is too much for Dr. Mindbender to resist knowing! So, under Dr. Mindbender's scanner's influences Baroness gives birth to a baby girl and names her: Ariyanna Decobray McCullen!! Somewhere else, around the world; Snake Eyes and Scarlett become a little too personal during their adventures undercover as carnival workers, leading to Scarlett's pregnancy, that brings about the birth of Fiona O'Hara from her mother Shana O'Hara. Since Snake Eyes' Surname is restricted classified intel. The daughter must officially take her mother's maiden name as her last name. At some mid-point during the lull in the original comic storylines; I imagine myself that Dr. Mindbender creates a "Vitality Serum," secretly in one of his own laboratories. When Cobra and G.I. Joe learn of it; Cobra, G.I. Joe and Destro's legions all descend on the laboratory and fight for the serum - as per usual; a massive explosion happens, and the serum is splashed onto all of them!! They then come to realize that, in fact, the serum has two major effects: it disables the aging process entirely and gives all of those affected by it, the vitality of twenty-year-olds! This causes the most bizarre situation ever, where all of those present that day will be able to live and fight indefinitely; without ever aging at all, having the vitality of twenty-year-olds!! Long Live G.I. Joe - forever!!!! My imagination sees toys as "props" to work with; so that is why I am sharing all of this. We can take this wonderful opportunity to make our own stories now!!! What if; Baroness and Destro had a daughter?! What if; Snake Eyes and Scarlett had a daughter?! What if; the shorter and younger action figures, are not small odd versions - but the children of the larger sized figures!?! Where can you go with that kind of initiative for the imagination!?! I am already putting my own story together; deeply involving the extreme difficulty of a father trying to be there for his daughter; but not being able to communicate with her at all!! What is it like to be a parent of a child you love with all your heart and soul; but, you can't speak to her at all?! How does Scarlett slow down and mother a child, when she's so adrenaline fueled and nonstop on the move usually?! How does it affect Scarlett, with her "Type A" personality, to have to be a mother?! If you're wondering about the Baroness ... she mostly just "dumps" her kid off on Crimson Guard Elite Deming to care for her; and that plays heavily into my imaginative storyline, as I pursue the thoughts about a child being without motherly love and care; growing up in the harsh and hateful Cobra organization. Ariyanna is the imaginative exploration into a Girl raised without any emotional support and no emotional development!! She has no morals at all. She has no ethics at all. She has no compassion, no pity, no remorse, no care, no heart at all! In my own imagination; I have Scarlett meeting her on the battlefield, when Ariyanna takes a squad of BATs to gather intel and recon the enemy. Upon knocking the short swords from her hands and pinning her down with a Katana sword to the throat; suddenly, Scarlett realizes that this "combatant" looks eerily similar to Baroness, as if a smaller sized, less skilled Baroness! No, no, no; couldn't be!! She questions the child with her blade mere inches from her skin ... at first she laughs at her. Then, she hears the child mutter to herself; "Just as mother said, I'm good for nothing, useless, worthless; I'll never be as great as her, never! Why do I even go on, this miserable?!" All at once, Scarlett's motherly instincts kick-in, and she looks down at the child and says, "Hey, kiddo; you're just a child, you should know you can't beat a battle-tested veteran of an endless war! Your mother should know better than to send you out here! Well, she would, if she had a soul at all!" Well, after some other dialogue, Scarlett realizes that Ariyanna literally has no concept of human emotions, and the more she begins to care about Ariyanna; the more it confuses the poor child! It's almost as if Ariyanna is more robot than the BATs Scarlett just smashed!! This is very very odd for a female child, the child is indeed most unusual. Just then Snake Eyes comes from the shadows and he grabs up Ariyanna; he dusts her off, then he simply gently rubs her shoulders, an unusually kind gesture for combatants - especially from Snake Eyes! Snake Eyes texts Scarlett, and she reads the text to Ariyanna : "Ariyanna, one parent's sin should not be the sins of the children. You have to choose your own path for yourself. I won't tell you what you should choose. There is little difference between G.I. Joe and Cobra. Both are responsible for horrible atrocities covered-up around the world. Both are heavily involved with very very dangerous and reckless scientific experimentations. There's just one difference Ariyanna; Cobra fights to oppress and enslave humanity and G.I. Joe fights to liberate and free humanity. The only reason that me and Scarlett still fight on G.I. Joe after all we have been through; is for that very reason. We fight the oppression and enslavement of humanity by Cobra forces. So you have to decide for yourself. Are you for human rights or against them. Then you choose for yourself: Cobra or G.I. Joe. But, if you fight against me or Scarlett; we will humiliate you every time by disarming you and pinning you down on your back. Because we refuse to kill you. You're not ready for this level of combat. Take my advice; and seek out a trainer, so you don't get murdered out here. Find Storm Shadow and tell him that Snake Eyes sent you; he will already know that you are Baroness' daughter, just from seeing you. Find Storm Shadow Ariyanna, become an apprentice of him; learn from him, or, I fear that you may end up face down in a pool of your own blood. I've been through a lot and I realize that a child should not be judged for their parent's mistakes or evils. You are not evil. You are just a child. You have time to make your own choices and decide for yourself. Storm Shadow will protect you. " Now that I have a nearly complete collection; I have it to where in the days to come Ariyanna and Fiona will meet, and they will not get along at all!! This will cause Fiona's parents great internal conflict!! How can they preserve both children with them battling each other whenever everyone else is busy in the larger war?! What to do, what to do?! Hmmm ... ! I will not tell anyone the "call signs - code names" I invent for Ariyanna and Fiona; just in case I may ever decide to actually type out a book and see if Hasbro will publish it! So their awesome code names will remain with me, just in case. Because coming up with one-off, not already used, cool action figure names is quite challenging to do! That is why I referred to the "children" in this without any code names. I literally have no idea why the Cobra "Baroness" is named after a Russian Grand Duchess; Anastasia, and that is why I chose to use the spelling of Ariyanna for her daughter. That is rather odd they used such a culturally popular name, especially after the Disney cartoon story; now almost everyone knows the story of Anastasia! Oh well, what else can be said, but: lol. I mean, Scarlett is named after the character from "Gone With The Wind," so there is that! I simply laugh that the name of a Grand Duchess was given to a Baroness, lol, ... and why after all the years, has the "Baroness" never moved up in nobility?! ... hehehe! Hmmm.
I posted this comment here to remind the readers, not to get caught up into silly arguments and 'controversies' involving toys - but to appreciate the opportunities given, to pick them up, and embrace them; and see where the imagination will go with them! I bought two of the first waves repainted figures; because, underneath all that new rubber tech are figures that look just like what the original characters might look like as actual people! They're not exactly identical to the originals; because, these new 6in. figures are more like actual people as the characters! Removing all the extra rubber reveals a black collard shirt Flint, just like the original! And, don't "knock" Lady Jaye's version one 6in, figure; because she looks exactly how a professional US Army Ranger Female Soldier should look for real! It is against US Military Regs for female soldiers to have makeup on in uniform; they also must have either very short hair or hair that is pulled back into a tight bun or tucked up into uniform headgear. The one exception might be lipstick, depending locational command regs enforced per base. Lady Jaye looks like an outstanding professional US Army Ranger! They look so much like people and not toys at all; that you can really let your imagination flow, and see where it goes: with live-action "story play!" That's all I'm trying to say. Enjoy what we've been given! Avoid the "grumpies" and just have Fun! Okay.
A few final thoughts about the Grand Duchess Anastasia, the real story is such a sad and tragic one; and once they discovered DNA, they have tested the murdered victims remains and found that Anastasia was, in fact, for a fact, murdered at age seventeen along with her family; so sad. So I guess the "Baroness" : Anastasia DeCobray is one of the many posing as the Russian heiress; and perhaps maybe, she was able to convince the council that she was the heiress before DNA testing came of age, and that is how she acquired her wealth?! If that were the real backstory of the "Baroness" it would be the reasons why James McCullen Destro would find her attractive and an opportune exploit at the same time. Seeing how useful both her talents at convincing others of her deceptions and her illegally gained wealth could be to his overall plans of world domination. This is the way my imagination concludes the backstory of the "Baroness" before she joined Cobra; and that, in fact, her known name may not even be her actual name, because we now know that the real Grand Duchess Anastasia was murdered along with her family; so sad. So, who is the "Baroness" really!?! Tracing her accent may provide a small hint as to where she really comes from!?! Hmmm.
Who couldn't afford the Original G.IJoe figures and instead got the copies from the dollar store? And Twist the torso for that super rotation spinning double punch/knuckles against those barbies!?
Richard Reavis I know, I know! My bad! I’ll make up for it when I do my Destro video. Especially bad because I have Scottish ancestry and so I should know better lol
Richard Reavis Agree Completely, You Say In The Video, She Went To University In Edenburg, Scotland. It's Spelled Correctly Edinburgh (E-din-bruh) It's Not Edenburg...
Eh, there's a difference between Goth and sort whatever type she is i might look it up later. Goths have a more Frilly, victorian or punk metal vibe. She doesn't give me either of those vibes ngl.
I enjoy the video but I have some constructive feedback. With "nom de guerre" the "nom" rhymes with bomb in American English. And Edinburgh is edden-burra. Cheers.
I'm surprised that there was no mention of the Godzilla episode, Season 2 Episode 12, The Island of Doom from 1979. This was when Godzilla squared off against Cobra, who, SPOILER ALERT, did as well as the Japanese Army against Godzilla. I remember a leader giving orders, but I don't think it was Cobra Commander. I do remember The Baroness being one of the leaders in Cobra though. This had Cobra pre-dating the G.I. Joe appearance by 3 years.
I remember thinking she was the prettiest cartoon female in glass, as a boy. Even today she's the sexiest fictional female in glasses. Too bad the GI Joe movies sucked, because I would've loved to see her become as bad-ass & popular as Black Widow, in the MCU.
The Image/Devils Due run is canon in my collection. It doesn't matter if Hama didn't write it, because those writers were respectful to and followed up from the original Hama run and even Hama himself was collaborating with Image/Devils Due at the time. Anastasia Cisarovna it is. Even Hama himself needs to admit "DeCobray" is quite a silly last name. Though perfectly conceived for comics simplicity at the time of development, and the Cisarovna revelation works perfectly. Even Ana Von Stromberg sounds better than DeCobray. You ignored in the video quite a lot from that Image/Devils Due plot, considering its a Baroness feature. The Image/Devils Due comic run are some of the best Joe comics ever, far better in my book than the IDW run. A true and respectful follow up to the original comics run and not a cheap remake.
At 4:04 in this video; Who can give me the down low on the blonde smoke-show that seems to be auditioning for a place amoungst The Baroness and Destro? Possibly transitioning the #1 wicked power couple into some kind of weaponized menage-au-tois? She must be a comics only character because I'm certain she'd have not been forgotten had I seen her on the cartoon or in the toy line.
i'm being honest here, my dad loves this show and asked me to draw him Cobra Commander for his birthday, so i checked out Gi joe itself and now Baroness has immediately drawn me in. I'm losing my mind isn't she like, 6'3? holy crap. i just, head empty bisexual thoughts only oogaboogaoogabooga-

If I don't remember wrong, in the comic books isn't the world taken over by cobra already?
@Lord Of The World And style
The original Baroness figure had a Dragunov sniper rifle, not an AK-47.
Baroness was my favorite character of the GI Joe universe. Most of my friends' favorite character was either Snake Eyes or Storm Shadow, but I was a Baroness guy. lol

Loved the Baroness as a kid. Like you said, "If it ain't Larry Hamas, does it even matter?" No, it does not!

Black hair. Never dark or brown.
Yes indeed she did influence alot when it came to the femme fatale villainess....a legend in infamy....all hail The Baroness

Character development and backstories in the live action movie were atrocious. They should have stuck to the comic backstory.
Masked Vigilante Absolutely! They completely changed her
It usually happens deliberately, un-fortunately!!!! 🗑
I agree but without the comic book background she wouldn't exist lol or any of the superheroes
It was to mature.....
I don't know, some of them where good, but they seemed too much based off the nanomite technology.
dude loving your origin series. while I enjoy learning what other writers do I gotta agree Larry Hama is definitive gi joe
Simon Rhoden Thanks Simon! I agree Larry’s work is the most canon. Others can help fill in gaps until he does so I like to include them
The Baroness is one of my favorite characters from the G.I.Joe Lore! The Baroness is one of my favorite G.I. Joe characters!

Now that I have a nearly complete collection; I have it to where in the days to come Ariyanna and Fiona will meet, and they will not get along at all!!
Love orgin videos thanks.
If Madeline Stowe was a badass.
"Eden-burg"??
Ouch...
Oh, I already watched this once & made this comment before. Thanks for fixing it for Destro.
She was so goth 😍
Eh, there's a difference between Goth and sort whatever type she is i might look it up later. Goths have a more Frilly, victorian or punk metal vibe. She doesn't give me either of those vibes ngl.
2:30 The Highlander.🤣🤣🤣🤣
one Question how will see kiss destro if he have a metal mask? how will she feel his lips and how do he feel her lips ??
Do one of Sheila The Thief.
From Dungeons and Dragons The Anime. Toei Animation with Hasbto Toys.
I enjoy the video but I have some constructive feedback. With "nom de guerre" the "nom" rhymes with bomb in American English. And Edinburgh is edden-burra. Cheers.
Saikotic Thank you! I’ll make sure I pronounce the city correctly when I do my Destro video
Eh-din-brah!
0:50 that is some fine artwork
3:40 to the right is some fine artwork, too. What a sandwich!
She was like the g.i. joe cobra version of black widow ❤❤❤❤😎😎😎😎
RIP Morgan Lofton - The Baroness!!!
Baroness gives me Terminator vibes. And I sometimes wonder if she was the inspiration for Karin Uzumaki from the Naruto franchise?
I always assumed Hama was channeling the Bader-Meinhoff gang.
My favorite femfatel, whip me, beat me, torture me, oh yeah! Where have you been all my life. But I know I'm better off dead.
All Hail Destro & The Baroness! Episode Cold Slither
I thought they were engaged in the movie, she agreed to marry Duke only if he kept Rex safe?
This is one of two origin stories. The movie retconned her, too.
Have you done Lady Jaye?
I liked the Baroness pics with the Decepticon Ravage. Not sure of the story there or it was just fan art
i'm being honest here, my dad loves this show and asked me to draw him Cobra Commander for his birthday, so i checked out Gi joe itself and now Baroness has immediately drawn me in. I'm losing my mind isn't she like, 6'3? holy crap. i just, head empty bisexual thoughts only oogaboogaoogabooga-
