Thank you for putting in the effort to go through both forms. The S Gundam is the form I'm more interested in and it's nice to finally have someone talk about it when there were only a couple of S Gundam reviews on RUclips.
I like both forms well enough but I've always found the Ex-S a little much. I know I'm in the minority but I like the look of the S better. Maybe throw the Ex-S gun on the S and you'd be cooking with gas.
@@zannusx I'd personally add the thrusters and hip cannons too. They look awesome! It's just those oversized fuel canisters I'm NOT a fan of. Look kinda dumb.
Don´t know which model to build, here is the solution: Buy 2 kits then put together the 2 models and finally go to work in a cornner at night for a couple of days so you can earn back those 220$ that you expend for those kits (A week if you are ugly)
I really would have bought this on day one. The 2-for-1 is what kills me. This would go for around 120. The original EX-S goes for around 80 and the S goes for around 60. Compare ONE kit for 120 vs two, fully complete MGs for 140. It’s too expensive and should have just been a regular Ver Ka released separately. Not that I’m stingy, in fact I already have the original Ex-S and S, and would have dropped cash for an updated Ex-S. But I don’t want to pay for a lot of junk parts.
Great review as always.. Mine unfortunately was missing a bag of screws...which are the ones for the ex-s boosters so using a lot of glue.. but I love the kit in general
It's a beast of a kit, though I still prefer the standard S-Gundam. Personally I would had liked to see some variation on the blues on this to break up the monotonous color scheme. Although one thing you can do with this newer kit over the original kits is have the S-Gundam in it's beam side hip configuration since you only get those parts from the Ex-S Gundam. The original kit didn't have them so you have to shell out even more $$$ to get the Ex-S just for those parts. And yeah, I agree with you Zack, the S-Gundam MGs were basically ver. Ka kits in everything but name. I mentioned this in my review of the original kit way back when.
Oh hey you mentioned the Ver Ka thing! Nice! :D Glad to hear you seem to have the same thoughts as me on it. Great kit with not a lot to improve on, a full 2.0 wouldn’t really have much left to do but this could have been a bit more and been pretty much perfect. Great review, mate :)
I agree as well.. The fact that it still transforms...I'm not sure how they could improve it all that much as a 2.0.. Maybe improve the connections on the core fighter for when connecting for ex-s transform.. Inner frame is pretty solid over all but, for a ver ka., It's lacking in decals..
Now that I think of it, Personally a big improvement needed is in those big blue tanks that hang off the shoulder. 5heres so much weight in and around those shoulders a better plug or a way to hold them up
I just hope that when they ever get to releasing the Full Armor ZZ ver ka we get updated Fazz'es that we can display alongside our deepstriker and EX-S gundams.
I wouldn't really say it's an "updated colour" version. Version 1 of the MG was the light novel colour design, "Task Force Alpha" variant, whereas this is simply the original design colours.
It's smart marketing from Bandai; want an Ex-S or an S? You have to buy this one expensive kit. Want both? You have to spend $250+. Meanwhile if you can find them, you can acquire both the old S and Ex-S for about half of that amount. Are the new parts nice? Yes. Are they worth the extra cost? To me, no - it's ripping off your customers.
on the original S/EX-S the part that goes around the forehead camera is red but on this new version it's white. there's actually a left over part in this kit from the Deepstriker which is that part but in red so if someone prefers the original color scheme of the head they can recreate that.
I don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need. I do need it. I do need it. I do need it. I do need it. I do need it but I can wait. I swear to God I can wait. I can wait. I swear.
I do agree on the blue.. The panel lines show much better. And the blue wing tips are one of the much better improvement imo. Those red stickers we're terrible
Still cant find a side-by-side comparison between the ex-s old and new kit, can somebody share a link? I have the old kit, finding merits to justify a new purchase.
the color is slowly growing on me. Im glad I pre-ordered this because I miss my OG ex-s; it's in my top 3. I lost it when I left for college 10yrs ago and just recently got back into model building. Never repurchased the old one because I knew bandai would eventually give us a ver ka or RG. The last ex kit sold well, even at $200 and I know bandai knows how to milk that money. I appreciate the update on the wings with color parts and not stickers, and the "gunpla resin aftermarket" inspired chest update. speaking of which, I expect resin kits to come out for this soon. can't wait.
In regards to the screws.... You can get away with moving most of them.. On in the ankle, the lower leg, the upper leg, One in the internal chest part. One goes in the arm that attaches into the ex-s boosters. Which so far.. (Haven't done the arms yet) The one for the booster is the only one ya really need.. As long as ya put some glue
hey Zak, i have the ex-s 1.0 and the 1.5, i was wondering if i can use the inner frame from the 1.0 with the armor from the 1.5, if so could i build both kits?, using the inner frame from the 1.0 to build an ex-s and the inner frame from the 1.5 to build an s gundam
I built the 1.0 ex-s and I'm almost done with the ex-s 1.5.. (Only have the arms, gun ,and second booster) I believe you can.. The armor for the shoulder is different with that sliding part but I believe it's just the black part it uses to attach is a lil different.. But the inner frame as a whole seems unchanged to me...
This kit is actually moving incredibly well in Japan (sold out at the Japanese electronics retailers). From a business standpoint, ver.Ka wouldn't make much difference.
Is there or have you any evidence or experience of anyone combining a typical MG Gunpla model kit with a Metal Robot Gunpla expansion kit successfully?
In this case it’s small armor changes and mostly just adding stuff to the S Gundam. The Gusion is a complete change of armor and half the frame. It’s almost two whole kits
So for or against Bandai's practice of charging us the extra pieces of the runners? That would certainly bring the kit down to 10k yens, as well as other kits(mostly repack or variations).
heyy im lucky that i got this kit for 10340yen haha and im really satisfied with it and worth it... haha but we can hear how tired are u at the end of the video hahaahaa great video zack love it and that 1989 number are nice hahaha waiting what kit will be your 1990 number are..
Still salty I ordered the original EX-s right before bandai decided to announce this kit all those months ago But if you're in the market to sell the left over S Gundam parts, or at least the backpack thrusters, hmu
Screws in Bandai kits kinda suck. More often than not I just leave them out and the kits are fine. But if you need it and it’s not working, you have to carefully screw it in as far as it will go, then back it out, and back in again a little farther, and so on. Eventually it’ll get to its depth
@@ZakuAurelius the problem is it just drops into the hole, there's no fit, it's like the part printed poorly, I ended up gluing it in because there's so movement loss from doing so, but I appreciate the help none the less
Finally a reviewer that actually review the entire kit not just reviewing the mode that they gonna display for long run.
✌️
Thanks! I absolutely love these entries in the franchise where the Gundams are treated as actual military hardware.

Agreed. I prefer the S gundam's appearance far more. In terms of super heavily armored gundams, I think the Double Zeta pulls it off better.
I think the s gundam with the ex-s knees and gun is how I am going to build this if I get it. I'm just not a fan of all the stuff hanging off the back

You're not paying for plastic. Once everything is produced, plastic is a few cents
Another quality, thorough review from ZakuAu, great job dude, we greatly appreciate it 😊

My body is ready for the "massive thrust action".
The Ex-S Can and does purge it's fuel tanks. So you can display the Ex-S without the fuel tanks on the shoulders and that would considered Cannon.

Graphite powder can be used to help lubricate the screws as they cut into the plastic.
The original Ex-S can stand on its own but very hard to do it.

did some digging. whoops! I listed the Deep striker. ex-s was 132.95 in 2019.
Can the giant backpack or thrusters of the ex-S be removed if necessary?
I do think more decals or dry transfers would of been nice..
Like for example, the ex-s black stand had a nice decal.

love the colours but I'd really like to buy it minus the Ex-S parts. As is I dunno it's cool but I'd only buy it if I had it on sale.
I love the S Gundam design. I think it’s way better than the EX-S Gundam for sure.
I had to buy 2 of these kits because I refuse to choose 1 form.
They should release this as a tricked out ver.ka or an MGEX (I'll keep dreaming). That would be so sweet, though.
This is a 1989 model kit?
AKA, the brick gundam
Will we be getting an MG Zeta Hummingbird next?
Would be nice!
The shoulder sticker looks like anime villain when the protagonist barely touches his katana.
Maybe bandai were expecting people have the old kit ( S / EXS) then buy this kit to have two 1.5 ver.
