Hi! Great video as always Puzzles & Solutions. I'm the one that made the test.
Item 23 has a poor design as it does not give enough examples (the squares are all in the same shape rather than communicating a concept). The system is that there are three collections of objects (square, a plus sign and lines) that increase by one for each vertical line. It could be B or E, but the objects are not connected to each other - so it's E. The idea behind the item is good, but the execution was bad. I was tempted to correct it. The item floats -- as it shows decent correlation with the rest of the items -- but not very optimal as it rises some questions.
It's not always about the statistical properties that matters, but the impression of fairness and clarity. Since so many people reacts to it (even if it's biased) I will see what I can do about it. This is why I like videos and discussions about my work, as it's improves the product.

Hey! Many thanks for the compliments. It's always nice to see you here.
The test was good. The time limit was perfect for the difficulty and amount of items. Wish you would make some website with a full collection of your tests (with clickable answers!!).
I have had some thoughts around such puzzles as item 23. These type of puzzles have a consistent pattern (signal) but contains all of this random noise. Using item 23 as an example:
-The signal (the pattern) would be; type of shape and amount
-The noise would be; movement of the objects and bending of the objects
I think the noise of these types of puzzles are great for sparking discussion about the puzzles. If every aspect of a puzzle is clear to most people, then there is no reason to discuss it. Because of this, I think they are good. Really hard puzzles are also great for sparking discussion. However in some puzzles such as item 23, I think it can be really hard to distinguish noise from signal. As you metion, I think row 1 should be altered to illustrate the concept behind the puzzle. Also I think at least one other image in the matrix should feature bending and not only image 8.
I can try to explain my first impression of item 23. First I see that every image in row 1 is completely constant while in row 2 the images are different. This made me think that the pattern is most likely in the columns. The first column and second column are quite similiar but yield very different third images (straight lines versus curved lines). I give up on making sense of the columns. I follow the rows and see the 1, 2, 3 pattern which leads to answer E. After answering E, I have this doubt in the back of my mind that there was some pattern in the columns, but which I couldnt see.
I think thats the real difference between item 23 and the rest of the items. With the rest of the items, I had confidence in my answers while with item 23, all I had was doubt.
But yeah, great test! Hopefully I will see more of your puzzles/tests in the near future :)

Already working on next video about how to intuitively think about the diagonal patterns that I often use to explain my puzzles. Also I will stream a cool puzzle game called "superliminal" sometime within the next days. The game has puzzles which you have to solve based on perception of objects. Spatial ability is of particular interest to cognitive researchers, given it's role in aiding the understanding of many concepts and info. The brain must use space relationships to help organise precursors for logical reasoning. However, it's possible that image's are not fed though any complex algorithm, to be computed and ordered, instead, images are stored somewhere, then, during the reasoning process, we grab said image, and are then able to manipulate it, perhaps get some part of the image from image x then connect it to image y, ect ect, we capacity to manipulate the stored images allows for spatial reasoning. We can now manipulate images with accordance to what we want, we can correspond those manipulated images to other information to help understand concepts. This may be like visual analogical thinking. Our capacity for imagination is determined by the quantity of ways we can manipulate, re- frame the images

People are reasoning like einstein (yall so good) for 23, whilst a simpleston like me sees it this way:
Row 1: Row one is diamonds, rotated in every angle will still be the same shape + position (same shape)
Row 2: Crosses, played around different rotations and positions (same shape)
Row 3 is where things get diff a bit:
3 **unconnected** lines. Instead of simple rotation and changing of position, it changes characteristics (bend) though it still behaves like the previous two rows. From this we can eliminate:
Option A,C,D F,: Addition and subtraction of Lines --> The previous rows show no change in quantity, Therefore the final answer has to have 3 lines
Option B: Connected lines--> remember when I said the picture shows **unconnected** lines? This is where the rule applies, option B has 3 connected lines, which leads us to eliminate it automatically
    ANSWER: E
REASONING: 3 unconnected lines, rotated and position changed.

Our brain makes sense of information by finding a hypothetical correspondence. Auditory and visual information is fed through the sensory system, higher order cognitive regions can grab the sensory information, manipulate it and re frame it, you are now able to perceive hypothetical situations. Situations that are beyond what you have experienced. Logic is understood through perception (perceived coherence) , Communication is in involved in guiding the representations to correspond to relevant information, so that one perceives the answer faster. Thus logical reasoning can be broken into two conceptual stages at the neuro-chemical level. Some of the process is consciously experienced by us, some of it is not.

I think number 23 is simply, going downwards; one shape, 2 separate shapes, then 3 separate shapes. So only E follows that pattern, B is similar with 3 lines but they are touching and not separated therefore nothing defines them as clearly separate.

I'd say that, in 23, looking at the crosses, first column and second column are turned 90 degrees clockwise, so provided that in 3rd column they turn the crosses just 45 degrees clockwise, It would probably imply that the answer would not have the three lines bended so maybe just two of them. It's like the "on my way" totally bended three lines with only two of them somehow bended.

He replied back saying I got 29/30 correct and that corresponds to an IQ of 145/top 0.01%, which is the ceiling of the test. This leads me to think there is a 1 question grace zone like on other tests.

@@PuzzlesAndSolutions Yeah, the wrong one has to be either 23 or 29, for sure. For 23 I had the same thought process as you ("It's got 3 lines, I'll go for E"). For 29 I had a quick look with about 10-20 seconds left on the clock so put C thinking it might be rotating 90 degrees along the diagonal, but looking at it with more time after I also thought it was probably A instead.
Glad I could help, though I'm still a bit stumped on the full logic for 23 haha.

Take the second row, join the centres of each cross. For the first figure, it's a vertical line, second figure is a horizonal line. Considering the two lines as vectors, the resultant in the thirst figure must give 45 degrees when connecting the centres of the two crosses.
Likewise, for the third row, the line joining the first and second figures are vertical lines. Taking resultant, for the third figure must also be vertical,as seen in option E.

How well one performs on these visual pattern tests is largely predictive of how well someone learns science, expecially chemistry and biology, as it predicts how well one learns the patterns of phenomena in science. It is less predictive of how well someone learns physics, as physics is less pattern based and more deductive.

In fact, in mechanical reasoning, lots of problems can be solved purely though a spatial visualisation approach, but even when problems cannot be solved purely through visualisation, spatial ability still helps aid thinking by transforming words to images or by holding an image whilst manipulating as you consider different viewpoints about something then see the effects of that through visualisation.

Hey, its hard to judge if they are accurate or not... Some tests like nicologic, give 100+ IQ for every participant, while in reality, 50% of the participants should get below 100 IQ, meaning that it is clearly inaccurate.
I guess, all you can do is compare your score with different tests. If you get 120 IQ on five different tests, but 170 IQ on one test, then the 170 IQ test is clearly inaccurate.
Oh and maybe check the reputation of the test/people that made the test.

If I can offer an idea. I do not know if its correct but here goes.
I did not manage to solve 29 and 30 within the time limit. But after having a second look, I might have had an idea.
One dot always stays in the same place. while the other dot traveles each of the three remaining spots in the row. If we label the upper dot 1, right dot 2 etc, you have the pattern 2,4,-2,3-2,1.

@@bdh9904 I think that yours is probably correct. My instinct went with c as well.
Since the way the dots changes only make sense if you look at the broader picture, but move seemingly random when compared with each other, I think that mine is porbably incorrect.
Edit : Just found another way that leads me to a but still think it is wrong. If we look at the figure that has two points opposite to each other and use that as a mirror, each row has one figure, the mirror and the mirror image. Which means that the last one would still be a. I do think however, that it is still wrong.

My idea for this puzzle is this: In each row/column there is one repeating circle.
      Row 1: Right
      Row 2: Top
      Row 3: Bottom
      Column 1: Right
      Column 2: Bottom
      Column 3: Top
-> image (3,3) has one circle in the top and one in the bottom.
Also notice that each row/column also has one circle that moves around the larger circle. In the rows, these moving circles move in clockwise direction while in the columns they move in counter clockwise direction. This pattern also supports that we have one circle in the top and one in the bottom.
Answer A seems correct to me. Personally I think this is overwhelming amount of support for this idea and it is relatively simple -> Enough to conclude it is most likely correct.
I read through you idea of the cancellation and mirroring across vertical/horizontal. It works in the rows and columns and its reasonable to accept it as a correct answer with your explanation along with it BUT it is still more complex than the pattern I described above. Always favour simplicity when it comes to which model to pick. I also see that gameplayer3050 found the same idea as me :)

@@PuzzlesAndSolutions The man who created the test has the real norm, it's the same as Mensa Norway test, Wechsler scale with a 15 points standar deviation or (SD15), which means if you get 130, you are in top 2% of population. I knew that because he told me my score and percentile and then I translated the score on internet with a Spanish website about giftedness and the scales were the same.

Hmm, its probably best to take the norway one, denmark one and sweden one. The average of the 3 would probably give a good estimate of a real IQ test.

On 29 can it not be "D" if you rotate the dots on the first row anticlockwise and when they touch the moving dot hits the other and get the 3rd figure, so on the 3rd row from the second figure we can see it is moving clockwise and we get answer "D" ?
