- Why can't two slices of pizza be used as a slide clicker? Why shouldn't you make music with ketchup? In this charming talk, inventor Jay Silver talks about the urge to play with the world around you. He shares some of his messiest inventions, and demos MaKey MaKey, a kit for hacking everyday objects.

He discovered how inventors, experimenting scientists, and creative types do...what they do. It's great he sees how special it is.
When they show stuff like this, I wish they would tell us where we can buy it!
So much passion. The world needs more projects like this.
The world needs more collaboration -- that's the only tool I believe, can make our world more connected, progressive, transparent and worthy to live.
I got the makey makey a year ago, I haven't used it in a long time, but this inspired me to take it out and just do whatever comes to my mind and see what happens
The aplications of this are amazing.
I was always told to never play with my food!
I can't stop watching this video! I really love seeing how he created this and just the creativity of Jay blows my mind. I think the world would be better if there was more people that could grasp, the idea that people can do things even if they can't explain and can only show you. I watch this video and I don't try to find what is wrong with it (probably because there isn't) I just watch. Fascinated, the technology and creativity of this video is a perfect marriage.
I just saw this Idea and thought the Intellectual connection to Engineering was: awesome!!
This is why the line between insanity and genius is so blurred.
This made my day, thank you.
I found their site. The kit costs 49.95 USD quite an affordable price for such awesomeness.
Wow, this is creativity and thinking out of the box.
It's not promoting a product. It's promoting an ideology and exposing the world to Silver's revolutionary thinking.
This is what I got, real quick…
- What we know often gets in the way of possibility;
- What could be more useful than feeling alive and having fun; and
- As Jay says, the world is our construction kit.
If you could roll Jay in with Seth Godin, we’d all be inspired, indeed, compelled to ‘make something' ... thanks Jay
Love this!
only one word to describe this: awesome
this guy is too cool :) ingenious in his way !
He is just happiness :)
Slick. Right idea right person.
Whenever and wherever there is a creative discussion, this guy must be called to sit in.
its not really about the entertainment objects themselves, it's more to broaden people's minds, and also good things can come out of it like when he mentioned that kid with the cerebral palsy who cannot really use a real computer keyboard.
He is a true genius!
2:05 Getting more curious by the minute. Interesting stuff.
WOW this invention is amazing. and i really like this jack guy. he invented this thing? its super sick
where can i buy the kit? this is mouth on the floor amazing man!!
"they can make beds out of trees" woooooooooooow
This is so awesome!
Amazing. This is so awesome. I want to get a kit for my daughter.
Great sentiments, my man. Become an engineer!
13:04 "Allow me to put down my wine and give you a round of applause, my good sir!"
Simply Amazing
This my friend, is AMAZING.
Simply amazing.
Ha! You are awesome! I'm going to show everyone this video.
Great talk.
GJ !
Superb stuff! :)
People, this is about getting kids to think creatively so they CAN come up with ideas like curing cancer!
simply awesome
He's fantastic! But what is he wearing?
This has changed my reality perception
Anyone know how he made the pencil and paintbrush that made sounds would be interested in making that but alas I know very little about electronics.
That's even better...Let's do that too.
this is just awsome!!
Brilliant!
really brilliant
Ingenious!!
I can just see him that morning..."These, these are what I'm going to wear to present myself to the internet."
That is the verry definition of modern art. Re-using objects that were designed for a sertain purpose in an other and interesting way.
These are important developments in DIY and DIWO cultures, and the world-changing sentiment is great...
But it kind of leaves the question of who will be there to keep the grounds of society on which we rely functioning, while we're all off self-actualizing, unanswered.
the Taiwanese girl with the mushrooms has a mean moustache
There's probably a good point here somewhere. This maker/individual empowerment stuff is fine and good ... hell, it's great, but the over-riding meme since the 20th century ... and into this one is that when people get together they create enormous power and that power's destructiveness when driven by just a few people who take the power from other people is affecting increasingly more people and more environment in a destructive way every moment without any thought, discussion or moderation.
I've heard of makey makey and I didn't know they did a ted talk :)
This is cool, but it is still even cooler.
I agree. It's so generic that you can use it for so many things. The huge potential for fun doesn't meant that its only use.
lol his clothes actually look dirtier than mine.
I should really show my mom this video.
- Mom!
what circuit is that? I can't understand :o
how do you make the paint brush one ?
I have 2 MM's. They're great, wish they'd come down a little on price but still great.
...giving a whole new meaning to "fork you." ;-)
Really inspiring.
good job, the computer thing is the first step to organic computer controlled by ur hands in some kind of gel maybe
my computer programming teacher brought this in today and we put hand sanitizer on his desk and connected a few people together and every time somebody touched one person, it would click the game we were playing which was that helicopter game where you click to go up. it was awesome...
00:18 creepy smile in the front row
Look up Makey Makey on amazon its the first one..
awesome.
I'm on a course called creative technology. I see all the stuff that people have made with makey makey and tbh I just think what's the point, apart from the accessibility thing. I got makey makey for Christmas last year and it's just been gathering dust.
I like the way you think!
where can i get one of these packs?
Awesome talk, now i like the pants
I was too distracted by his shorts the whole video.
amazing
Someone post a link for buying this?
how can anybody dislike this video?
Well... That is an extremely interesting idea.... I'm not nearly that creative.
Are awesome!!!
Thanks to this guy I learned how to hack objects😂😂

I think I'll try that. I have one of each.
Wait, what? What did he said? I have only seen pants for like 13 minutes.
It's 50 dollars, it's not that expensive if you're really interested. Beleive me, it's worth all your money

Our three-year-old would probably enjoy this makey thing. But not notice the pants? I don't know.
