India hosts the world's largest election

India is hosting the world's largest election, with almost 970 million of India's population being eligible to vote.
Voting is held in seven phases at more than 1 million polling stations, and the election will take six weeks to complete. Six more phases will be conducted over the course of the next two months, with the results out in the first week of June.
It is widely expected that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has already been in power for a decade, is expected to win a rare third term. If he does, he will become only the second Indian to win three back-to-back terms.
