PHOTOSENSITIVE WARNING: READ BEFORE WATCHING A very small percentage of individuals may experience epileptic seizures when exposed to certain light patterns or flashing lights. Exposure to certain patterns or backgrounds on a computer screen, may induce an epileptic seizure in these individuals. Certain conditions may induce previously undetected epileptic symptoms even in persons who have no history of prior seizures or epilepsy.
I actually designed the original =]. Huge props on this project this is incredibly cool to see. The music reactivity in your build is way closer to what I had wanted for the original, but we were massively limited on CPU power. Let me know if you want to connect I'd love to hear more about your build!
Hey Billy! So nice of you to drop by. Appreciate your comment a lot - I'd love to chat. How best to reach you? There's a build blog here in 3 parts in case you haven't already seen it: blog.julianbutler.com/2018/12/my-digital-lavalamp-or-mki-epilepsy.html
Nice lamp! I wish I could have the skills and hardware to bulid such one. I didn't saw phitisensitivity and epilepsy warning anywhere did I missed it? Imagine build it such way that it doesn't need a pic connection and even shows weather forecast as a light animation that would ve so cool.
Macadamia Owl thank you very much. Really good point about the photo sensitivity / epilepsy warning, I’ll add that. There’s a Yahoo Weather API call in the Processing libraries to do exactly what you’re suggesting about the forecast display, it’s on my list of modes to add :-)
Hi Jason, the blog hasn't gone anywhere, the link is in the clip info, here's the second page: blog.julianbutler.com/2019/01/my-digital-lavalamp-or-mki-epilepsy.html, enjoy!
@@JulianButler I realized what happened. I bookmarked the blog when I saw it on Hack A Day. Then today when I went back I was getting an DNS error I think. Apparently the blog site is blocked at work.

@@JulianButler Thanks...Writing this from work. Apparently RUclips is accessible from work, but not a blog. I've bookmarked you blog on my home PC. I've had a similar idea for quite some time, now I just need to make it happen.
Looking great, but the need of habing a Pi to manage something like a lamp is kind of too much. If it could work with same result based on some cheaper and smaler board it would have much more sense.

Awesome work! I have one of these water tubes. Good use!
That's really cute, where's the lava though?
Really nice!!
Karlos Anderson thank you!
Put me down for buying one if you ever made them in a limited production run.
Hallo Julian funktioniert das mit RP'I Zero?
Hallo Leo, nein, der rPi Zero hat nicht die Rechenleistung, die zum Rendern der Skizzen erforderlich ist.

What happened to your blog? I'd really like to read the entire build process, but archive.org only has the first page saved.

What is used as the diffusion layer?
Hey, it's a thin sheet of frosted acrylic as detailed here: blog.julianbutler.com/2019/01/my-digital-lavalamp-or-mki-epilepsy.html
How can someone contact you about using your footage?
Take a look around the blog linked in the clip info, I'm sure you'll find a way

Есть такой Alexgyver, у него сделано на много проще и в разы дешевле))))!!!!
Николя Комяков it’s probably true but you won’t find a cheap one with these effects or this much programmability.
У Alex gyver все заточено под бессмысленный и абсолютно ненужный в данном светильнике Wi-fi и эффектов там намного меньше.
