  • Kutaisi, Georgia is one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the entire world. It is also home to two beautiful UNESCO World Heritage sites in Gelati Monastery and Bagrati Cathedral. But as the third largest city in Georgia it has been underrated because of Tbilisi and Batumi. However, Kutaisi is growing in popularity because the airline Wizz Air created a hub in the city and provides cheap flights from Europe. I took Wizz Air to here and really fell in love with the relaxed atmosphere in the city and the amazing historical sites. I think everyone should add Kutaisi Georgia to their bucket list!

I’m planning to arrive there tomorrow/Friday morning, if anyone’s got tips for me the flight arrives in at 4:30 in the morning. I have no idea anything about this country. It would be fantastic to get some tips and some knowledge and some recommendations of some cheap places to stay, and if it’s a good place for party.

Warning about the taxi drivers at Kutaisi airport who do not appear to be registered. Seems anyone can rock up to the airport and be a taxi. I knew what the going rate was to the city from the airport but I was approached by the drivers who were going to charge 10 times what it should be. One taxi man followed me all around the airport refusing to take no for an answer. They were very intimidating. Even when I was trying to eat a sandwich from the airport cafe he was sitting down at my table trying to get me to go with him and his driver. Even when I found one that appeared to be reasonable on the rate, he changed the price half way through. I had to pay it he could have done anything to me. There were no meters in the cab or working seatbelts! It's not a good first impression of Georgia. Security officers and information desks were not interested in helping me nor do anything about the aggressive 'taxi drivers' in the airport building
