Good but, missed the most important lines in the song, " I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody elses skies, but why, why, why, can't it be, can't it be mine????
+JoniJ 41 (Joni) I'm a true Tori fan...and PJ blows my mind too :D Can't believe it, but I don't think I've heard Tori covering 'Creep' (I love Radiohead too). Will just check it out...
I still find my self going back too Creep, however this a nice little treasure to find indeed! I've followed this red headed, musical "GODDESS" since I was only 17. I'm now pushing 47 and I've managed too pass on my genuine love of her to my 25 yr. old twins... MS. L
I was at a party at my brother's house in the mid-nineties with a few of his friends who were musicians or just really into music. We were all in our twenties. One girl said, "I want to hear 'Black.'" Someone said, "'Black' by Pearl Jam?" And someone sarcastically said, "No, 'Black' by Tori Amos." And then someone mentioned that her real name was Myra. I thought it was cool because I liked Tori Amos and I didn't hear many people talk about her.
@@TroublesomeOwl I know, I have it. Unfortunately it does not have her best covers, in my opinion. Except Time. That one is fabulous. But I would like to hear studio versions of Black, Boys of Summer, I’m on Fire, to name a few.
@@rioseven7306 Fair call. She needs to re-release the ep of covers from early in her career, the one that had Angie on it.. that is some amazing stuff. That being said, her cover of Eminems 97 Bonnie and Clyde on SLG is amazing and terrifying.
oh my god, oh my god..this is beautiful....wow...i wish she wold have put in one of the most important lines "i know some day you'll have a beautiful life, i know youll be a star in somebodys elses sky, but why, why, why cant it be mine" would be amazing if someone at one of her shows can request for her to do it live again, and then post it for all of us :)
I'm surprised, but not really a feeling Tori's cover of this. I love T's covers, and there were several great amazing one's done on this tour in the Piano Bar portion (Running up that Hill, Karma Police, Lovesong, etc) I kind of agree with another commenter, I would have liked a bit more energy in it, to do it justice. It would be amazing to see a bit of 'crazy Tori' (a la the BFP era) come out in the end of this song, but I think we all know that is likely just a dream. Still always great to see her doing different things. Thanks for posting!
LOL... That reminds me of something. My wife and I were having a very long but quiet disagreement when we were younger. We we also in church... where I did not wanna be. We had volunteered for something to do with the youth group. So naturally when you volunteer for one thing suddenly the stack more crap on you. They had a motivational speaker... he was chipper. I was way behind that. He's asking everyone in our group of about 25 church folk what their favorite color was. So the "Karens" there were like shy and said... a "light teal".. then they'd giggle. My wife was eyeballin'' me and nervous as they come to me. I'm a big bearded guy. Not a pencil neck at all. I abruptly said "BLACK" . Giggles stop. Wifey's eyes get all teary. The speakers jaw hit the floor. My favorite actually is black. I'm 62 now. We were like 22 back then. They all turned to look at me and I just sighed and walked out . Your comment just brought back a 40 year old semi funny moment back. I was like... "What? God made black as a color "
I think Tori's most fitting cover is Kate Bush's Running up that Hill.. Even Kate's version is very Tori-like... But, no complaints with The Cure or Pearl Jam..
Michael Guerra Any artist while on tour will not🎤&play their own songs/pieces the same way night after night. So then what do u do if covers R added...those bands R probably hoping it doesn’t sound exactly as it did coming off their albums. It’s 2 factors really...as a musician, who wants to play the same song the same way day in day out? That's where some people really can’t handle the 2nd ¿¿¿huuu??? the awful gasp when their fav'rite artist changes their 🎼& grOWS!! Evolves, experiments, becomes a (even w/trial&error) better musician, the true artist! That’s why you'll never see E.V./Pearl Jam, Thom Yorke, The Cure, or a similar sounding Kate Bush would never complain or sue. In general, for the public who doesn’t understand what it's like playing 🎵6-8hrs most days, even the tediousness of learning can become too monotonous over time. Just b/c it canB tedious doesn’t mean that Ucan't have a cathartic💝affair! So please, w/any musician, a single piece is almost impossible to play it the same way every single time. It’s 1 of the biggest complaints I hear, when u've someone who’s @the caliber of T., 🎹is 1of the most difficult Inst.'s2master, @the same time as using her voice & half her career has been solo. And even in a solo show, u can have an “off” night when some songs just aren't playing nice w/U no matter how much preparation is put in. &T. is very lucky in that most venues are able to set up her concert playing Bösendorfer. That’ll help ev'ry time. M. Guerra, I know u wrote this 5yrs ago, &succinctly!, but U've got it very correctly put!
O.k., I do enjoy her covers of Rolling Stones Angie and also Led Zep's Thank you. Both on the Winter EP. and the Smells like teen...on that one isn't bad either. But I have to stop there.
It's a pity that she didn't this before 2003: her voice was so powerful during the solo tour in '96 and '01. During the Original Sinsuality Tour and The Summer of Sin her voice was to raspy and nasal and even the piano was too staccato and slow. Luckly she's back to her old standard during the recent Night of hunters tour and I hope that next time she'll sing again this gem.
As a HUGE Tori Amos fan, I am continuously disappointed by all of her attempts at covers but would be more than THRILLED to have a few more Northern Lads, Hey Jupiters, Chinas, Horses, Cool on your Islands, Little Earthquakes...
This just seems dead and emotionless compared to how Eddie does it. I love Tori Amos, but this just isn't a song she's cut out for. It just comes off flat and boring.
I'd have to disagree. Her version seems VERY emotional to me, almost as if each word was a fight to produce. I found it heavy on emotions. Everyone has their own opinions, though.
Saint Rodriguez I respect your opinion, but I guess I just don't hear it. It may also be that I'm so used to hearing Eddie sing it that I don't want anyone else to sing it.
I still haven't forgotten experiencing this live.
Omg I can't believe I didn't hear this before, I really love Tori and Pearl jam is my favorite band of all time, I feeling blessed 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🖤
Fantastic. True musicianship.
Whether it's Tori or Eddie singing "Black" ... I can't make out 80% of the lyirics.
The way she treats covers
( What I refer to as uther people's children) is with such exquisite care and sweetly loving .respect ,!

Wow. Never knew she performed this.
A big fan of Tori, & I love this song but this really needs the energy and verve of Eddie Vedder to work!!
Should be corrected to September 17th, 2005. This was recorded in Los Angeles, CA, and was the only time ever that she played this song in concert.
I was there! Amazing!
I love this.
OMG I was at this show!! I totally forgot about this,,,, holy shit... she also did Knights in White Satin this night too. Amazing
144k plays on this is criminally low, especially when you consider at least 70k were mine.
Really? I think some of her covers are amazing! Smells Like Teen Spirit, Losing My Religion, Time are a few of my favourites.
Stellar.
My own personal healer ❤💙❤
@soleiloceans I was totally impressed wit this But definitely the Nirvana cover is also amazing!
Now, I wouldn't mind seeing a Tori version of Yellow Ledbetter!!
