So first of year I bought only 4 to start off 2023 and won't get anymore sketchbooks or supplies until I use all I have. Ive had to throw out so much dried up stuff. Ive totally spring cleaned my art room today before end of January was my goal. Now Im ready to start fresh. I love your journal flip throughs you are a very talented lady and alot of fun to watch. Lovely video again. I've deliberately been working through a heap of journals last year as I too had lots of incomplete ones, plus really really old ones that I'm painting over. I mentioned to my friend that I was reusing old ones and bless her heart, she went out and bought me 4 brand new ones as she thought I was reusing purely for financial reasons ♥️ I'm so lucky to have such a generous bestie but now I've got 4 more journals to get through lol
The art creations sketchbooks have the feel of good quality and the price to think oh, don't need to be precious. It's great. I'm cheering you on to first finish some you have before purchasing another. Maybe have a goal to finish a certain amount and then as a reward get a new one 😄😁🥰 looking forward to next week.

Trying to pull myself away from that mindset and just allow the creativity to flow, even though my inner perfectionist has all these grand ideas for how the sketchbook "should" look. I've been following you for a while now and as soon as you upload your video I watch it! You're such an accomplished artist and I'm in awe of your talent and your art. Your sweet babies are so cute, I hope they'll be okay. I'm bedbound and live with my 83 year old Mom who is my caregiver and has been looking after me for decades. We have a hard time finding money for food and have to beg on social media. I've been an artist all my life and art and writing has helped me survive lifelong trauma. Same! I love those leather look handcrafted paper looking ones, but I'll have to save a bit, and restrain myself from them just yet. I don't want to mess any of them up! Lol!
I don’t allow myself to buy the really pretty ones anymore because I do fall into that same trap. I just buy inexpensive ones now, although it seems like nothing is an expensive these days lol
I also have themed sketchbook paralysis but more like marker paper, watercolor paper, mixed media paper, a dry media only that feels too pretty, and I just ordered an art talens one to unlock that freedom to draw anything without pressure to color it which I felt in the themed ones, it felt like the purpose of the mixed media paper to play to the max so if I did several pages graphite only it felt wasteful eventhough intellectually I know it isn't. My husband always tells me the only way to waste art supplies is to never use them and I try to make it my mantra to be less afraid to play more fearlessly. I'm saving so much money by not using Amazon anymore, removing the convenience means I have to be mindful so I think twice before I put in an order.
I’m so sorry to hear that you struggle like that with your sketchbooks. I’ve never tried doing “themed sketchbooks“ I just throw everything into whatever Sketchbook I’m using at the time. It makes it fun to look back on them when there’s all sorts of different mediums and styles. Good for you for working on being more explorative with your art supplies and using them more. You are so right about paralyzing yourself with themed sketchbooks. I have one non themed sketchbook and I am making much faster progress in it than my others. Thank you for your videos on intuitive art. I had never heard of it and am excited to try it. I also have health problems like CFS and Fibro ❤ I think the intuitive art process may be great for those days when I want to create but dont have the energy to plan an image.

This was such a good idea to go through your sketchbooks first, I actually went straight away after watching this and did the same thing and almost had a heart attack. But the good kind I will not be buying a new sketchbook for quite some time I’ve put myself on a band until I finished at least 3/4 and then I can get myself one as a treat.
Waiting on my order from Blick. I need help, I am buying too many art supplies. I ordered some Golden fluid acrylic paint for the first time. Also ordered the brushes from your last video. Oh Linda it definitely is a disease. I am totally addicted to art supplies of every kind. I have coloured pencils worth £300/400 it’s crazy I don’t just have one set I have about 5 sets of372 pencils. I have journals. Dies, paint of all sorts £1000s & £1000s worth of stuff. My other half goes crazy. I’m actually busting out of my studio xx

I love flip-throughs❣️I had an idea 💡 I want to share. You shouldn’t do double the work by making two videos. I love going through the sketchbooks and journals with the artist taking about their work, thoughts, ideas, how it helps them understand and improve their art etc. The viewers that don’t want that can mute the video and play music they enjoy. That leaves you more time to create more videos, artwork or just rest with your journal in your art nest 🪹 to create your beautiful and brilliant ideas🪺! 🤗 Love, Fran
Thanks Fran, that’s very sweet of you! Some of those older flip through‘s are in videos with a lot more varied content. The viewer might have to watch the video for 20 minutes before the flip through comes up. If I re-film them to music it would just be the flip through with no other content and much easier to watch. I have to do the same thing, pull out my supplies and look at them to remind myself that I don’t need to buy more, whether it’s sketchbooks, paints, or anything. Trying not to buy any sketchbooks this year. I have plenty of new / in progress books to use. Exception: I did use birthday money to order a couple of hot press for gouache (all of mine were cold press), but that’s it for 2023!
That's me! I have a sketchbook addiction too! I love making art :) I've been making art since around when I was in 8th grade/2011. I never really started collecting sketchbooks until 2015 though. I'm kinda bad about documenting my art and when I made it.

I have a sketchbook addiction and art supply addiction also lol. I started buying all my supplies before covid hit and I'm glad I did because inflation is hitting the pocketbook hard and I couldn't afford to buy all that I have now.
The best thing that happened to me when I decided to go on a low-buy this year is that I really started exploring the art supplies and sketchbooks that I already had. I’ve discovered some really fun ways to use what I already have and that was a hidden blessing. Of course inflation works to LOL 🤑
Thanks! If I’m going to gesso a page it’s usually only when I use acrylic paints. I used to gesso the pages all the time but I do it less often now. I think it depends on what medium I’m using and what type of painting I’m doing.
I love the little sample size for small and miniature artwork. 😊 I was watching an artist, can’t recall her name, she calls her sketchbooks “Anything Goes” and she does everything in them. I haven’t had good luck with the Fabriano either and I didn’t like Canson paper either.

I do the same thing, buy, but don't use them. I have a horrible way of doing things. I gather all the stuff, for awhile, then by the time I have it all, the inspiration to paint is gone. Maybe it's the chronic pain and depression..and grief...it's been years since I painted anything. I started in oils, now I'm wanting to do watercolors again. Sadly, I too, fall into that trap of thinking I have to have the exact same things that artist is using. Lol. I should know better than that now.
My heart goes out to you because when my pain/fatigue and depression are high it is harder for me to get started too! I recently showed an exercise in one of my Patreon videos where you hold a marker very lightly in your hands and just draw some organic loops and shapes that are all connected. Then you take watercolor, acrylic, ink or whatever you like and fill in certain loops. It’s a very relaxing exercise that calms the nervous system. It also helps prevent you from thinking that you need to “make art”. Another thing I do when I am feeling too ill to make paintings is I paint backgrounds on pages in my art journals. No pressure just applying paint and marks that I will paint over later. Often when I get started on something like that I can move forward with an intuitive painting or an abstract painting. I need to do some more videos on RUclips for projects when illness makes creativity difficult. Take care!
I just checked on my phone and when it asked me what browser I wanted to use I used Chrome and it opened my Amazon favorite store. When I get up into the studio, I’ll check it out on the computer but so far it seems to be working in chrome on my phone.

This was such a good idea to go through your sketchbooks first, I actually went straight away after watching this and did the same thing and almost had a heart attack. But the good kind I will not be buying a new sketchbook for quite some time I’ve put myself on a band until I finished at least 3/4 and then I can get myself one as a treat.
It’s a good goal to set. I have been blowing through Sketchbooks this year since I said a goal to finish them all up.
Waiting on my order from Blick. I need help, I am buying too many art supplies. I ordered some Golden fluid acrylic paint for the first time. Also ordered the brushes from your last video. Oh Linda it definitely is a disease. I am totally addicted to art supplies of every kind. I have coloured pencils worth £300/400 it’s crazy I don’t just have one set I have about 5 sets of372 pencils.
I have journals. Dies, paint of all sorts £1000s & £1000s worth of stuff. My other half goes crazy. I’m actually busting out of my studio xx
Dianna, do you use your colored pencils and journals? I often wonder if the times that I overbuy art supplies I feel creatively stagnant or I’m depressed. I’m trying really hard this year to only buy things I will actually use. It’s hard when I see all those unboxing videos here on RUclips 😬

I love flip-throughs❣️I had an idea 💡 I want to share. You shouldn’t do double the work by making two videos. I love going through the sketchbooks and journals with the artist taking about their work, thoughts, ideas, how it helps them understand and improve their art etc. The viewers that don’t want that can mute the video and play music they enjoy. That leaves you more time to create more videos, artwork or just rest with your journal in your art nest 🪹 to create your beautiful and brilliant ideas🪺! 🤗 Love, Fran
Thanks Fran, that’s very sweet of you! Some of those older flip through‘s are in videos with a lot more varied content. The viewer might have to watch the video for 20 minutes before the flip through comes up. If I re-film them to music it would just be the flip through with no other content and much easier to watch. I have to do the same thing, pull out my supplies and look at them to remind myself that I don’t need to buy more, whether it’s sketchbooks, paints, or anything. Trying not to buy any sketchbooks this year. I have plenty of new / in progress books to use. Exception: I did use birthday money to order a couple of hot press for gouache (all of mine were cold press), but that’s it for 2023!
So many of us are in the exact same situation lol. Not to enable you but buying the hot pressed for gouache makes good sense 🤗😄📚.
That's me! I have a sketchbook addiction too! I love making art :) I've been making art since around when I was in 8th grade/2011. I never really started collecting sketchbooks until 2015 though. I'm kinda bad about documenting my art and when I made it.

I have a sketchbook addiction and art supply addiction also lol. I started buying all my supplies before covid hit and I'm glad I did because inflation is hitting the pocketbook hard and I couldn't afford to buy all that I have now.
The best thing that happened to me when I decided to go on a low-buy this year is that I really started exploring the art supplies and sketchbooks that I already had. I’ve discovered some really fun ways to use what I already have and that was a hidden blessing. Of course inflation works to LOL 🤑

Thanks! If I’m going to gesso a page it’s usually only when I use acrylic paints. I used to gesso the pages all the time but I do it less often now. I think it depends on what medium I’m using and what type of painting I’m doing.
I love the little sample size for small and miniature artwork. 😊 I was watching an artist, can’t recall her name, she calls her sketchbooks “Anything Goes” and she does everything in them. I haven’t had good luck with the Fabriano either and I didn’t like Canson paper either.

How are you making the pages look like magazine pages. It has this nice sheen that im obsessed with.
I sometimes coat the pages with Dorland’s cold wax. I mostly just do that if I’m painting with acrylics to keep the pages from sticking together.

I do the same thing, buy, but don't use them. I have a horrible way of doing things. I gather all the stuff, for awhile, then by the time I have it all, the inspiration to paint is gone. Maybe it's the chronic pain and depression..and grief...it's been years since I painted anything. I started in oils, now I'm wanting to do watercolors again. Sadly, I too, fall into that trap of thinking I have to have the exact same things that artist is using. Lol. I should know better than that now.
My heart goes out to you because when my pain/fatigue and depression are high it is harder for me to get started too! I recently showed an exercise in one of my Patreon videos where you hold a marker very lightly in your hands and just draw some organic loops and shapes that are all connected. Then you take watercolor, acrylic, ink or whatever you like and fill in certain loops. It’s a very relaxing exercise that calms the nervous system. It also helps prevent you from thinking that you need to “make art”. Another thing I do when I am feeling too ill to make paintings is I paint backgrounds on pages in my art journals. No pressure just applying paint and marks that I will paint over later. Often when I get started on something like that I can move forward with an intuitive painting or an abstract painting. I need to do some more videos on RUclips for projects when illness makes creativity difficult. Take care!

I just checked on my phone and when it asked me what browser I wanted to use I used Chrome and it opened my Amazon favorite store. When I get up into the studio, I’ll check it out on the computer but so far it seems to be working in chrome on my phone.
So I just went up and checked it on my computer too, and it is working on my iMac, iPad and iPhone. Maybe it was just a temporary glitch on Amazon?
