Barack Obama once admitted that he would like to have a third term as president, but only if he could just sit in the back and write policies. That's a Canadian pipeline, owned by a Canadian company, built by Canadian workers using Canadian pipe, to carry Canadian crude oil from the Alberta tar sands to American ports along the Gulf of Mexico. That's it. It does not deliver crude to any American refinery, and is too acidic, too high in sulfur, and too dirty to economically refine here. It is an export pipeline only, supplying no oil to the American market. Its American work force would include a management team of perhaps half a dozen people, an engineering staff of maybe a dozen, and a maintenance staff consisting of one technician for every 150 miles of pipeline. Of course, there's nothing wrong with helping our Canadian neighbors sell their oil to foreign buyers, but stop trying to pretend that Keystone XL provides any significant benefit to America.
