  • In this video I show the proces of me making a birdcage for my lovebirds.
    Security is the most important thing while working with machines. Make sure to use gloves (especially while working with the wire mesh) and if needed, goggles.
    Note: I made many changes on the design as I was building it, and afterwards too. This is not the only way, try it yourself! design your own cage for your birds, you will have more fun.

    Nice looking cage. I have built two bird cages and two flight cages so far. Most people just buy the cage but part of the fun is in the build.

    For others who wish to DIY birdcage for parrots, pls remember to use galvanized stainless steel wire mesh between 1,5-30mm woven vertically and horizontally for flying birds. Chicken net is not good for climbing birds like parrots it can hurt them really bad.

    Nice work! I love watching these videos because I'm getting amped up to build an indoor aviary for finches.There are so many good design ideas here, and this video will be of great help as a point of reference. I built a smaller flight cage for my zebra finches out of an HDX storage rack and window screening equipment. I made all the window screens custom to size and then affixed them to the rack with zip ties. I've got all the lumber now (collected from a construction site) and I just need it to stop raining so I can work out on my driveway. Though the aviary will be quite large, I think I might try repeat the window-screen idea by simply adjusting everything to scale. I have a lot of leftover building materials that were in my house randomly when I moved in, and It's been a great way to reduce clutter and make something that is like a palace for my beloved birds!

      That's awesome! Deffinetly if you have the space, do something your birds will enjoy. This cage was the biggest i could build since i have limited space.

    that's a really solid looking cage. Is there anything you would do differently if you built another? do you have any problems with them biting off the plastic or staples? I know my two would destroy anything they could get their beaks on. What would you do to save money on another build? Maybe use 25 x 50 timber or cheaper fittings? those birds are CUTE!

    • @AnaDMTL

      the ones you see in the video.
      wood, drill, screws, screwdriver, wire mesh or plastic mesh, industrial stapler, clamps, 90° clamp / corner clamp (for the perfect angles) whatever you can use to picck up the residue, in my case I used corrugated plastic, 4 wheels with locks, something to cover the staples, again, I used corrugated plastic so they don't ingest the staples cuz metal is very toxic for birds and they can die fairly quickly. mmmmm... can't think of anything else right now. OH, hinges for the doors and a lock.

    AnaDMTL.One can use galvanised wire but it's best to paint the mesh black which will enable one to see the birds better.If you are thinking of buying stainless steel mesh then I suggest that you take your friendly bank manager along to pay for it lol.

    • @AnaDMTL
      @AnaDMTL  7 лет назад

      yeah lol I was looking for it and it was SO expensive! I still don't know if it is galvanized or not. I don't even know who produced it, it was so vague the paper that came with the mesh...
