I’m cautiously curious…very cautious…but I’m totally with you, I was hoping it’d be animated because it would just work better

Extremely low expectations at the sight of it being live action. Would love nothing more than to have my worries be proven wrong, though. Here's hoping Nintendo keeps an iron grip over production.

OPLA did well because it was silly mixed with serious and the characters looked silly too, which is what OnePiece manga/anime looks like and does. But Zelda live action? I don't know if that would do well because the story of Zelda is a serious form of fantasy. You'd have to invest a lot of money to make it look really good and stay serious (say Peter Jackson's LOTR or Netflix's Witcher season 1). As for Link talking...I think it can be done if he is shown as a man of few words (strong, stoic, mysterious, speaks only when he feels he has something worth saying, i.e. Henry Cavil's portrayal of Geralt of Rivia in Witcher season 1). Agree or disagree? Let me know what you think :)

To be honest I would have rather had it be animated. The artstyle the games have been in, even the older ones, would be perfect for animation, especially if it was in a Studio Ghibli style like you said. There's a magic to Japanese animation that Western studios almost always lack.
With the films the producer's been involved in, I'm not saying it's DOA, but my excitement has been incredibly stifled. It reminds me of the Super Mario Bros movie reveal, when Peach was depicted as something of a departure from the games (though definitely not a girl boss as some people way overreacted; more of a Princess Fiona in OG Shrek, unlike the games where she's a classical damsel in distress.) Miyamoto and Nintendo being heavily involved does placate some concerns, but unlike most others I always defer more negatively than positively with the direction entertainment has gone/has been for the last forever and a half.
I agree with Johnny64 that whoever plays Link will have a massive microscope placed on them. Please not Tom Holland, cuz that's the name I hear get thrown around a lot.
Finally, it'll be 0/10 for me unless Link says "oh boy smooching time" after rescuing Zelda from Ganondorf.
