Till I turned 18, I was thin and everyone mocked me. Then i started putting on weight (due to PCOS) and now they try to convince me to go to a gym. No thanks, I am in shape and my shape is called BEAUTIFUL. :)
Dear girls, if you are reading this, know that you ARE beautiful. Not in what you look, but in what you actually are.

@Aparajita Basu What you said about Indian food...Dude, homecooked indian food is actually very healthy. Just we use a bit more spices in our food, doesn't mean our food is unhealthy. And about oil...most of the oils used to cook Indian dishes like mustard oil, coconut oil (in South India) ,ghee...Yes ghee...they are healthy and not at all fattening.
Also, all these oils are used in limited quantities at home.(Same can't be said about indian food served in restaurants though)

@@shrutisingh8743 Indian food is healthy compare to western foods but not when it comes to Japanese cuisine. There is no to very little oil, they just eat boiled vegetables, meat and rice. There’s a lot of people calling the channel out for posting diet videos. Eating healthy and working out isn’t against what they’re saying. They’re not telling you to not loose weight or get healthier, but being thin shouldn’t be your reason to get healthy and neither should you be obsessed with getting thin.

Its like on a scale of 1-10, if 7 is fat for men, then 4-5 would be fat for women.

While I agree that fat shaming is wrong, I don't agree with BuzzFeed promoting an unhealthy lifestyle unknowingly. It's okay to accept yourself and choose how you want to look like. But, we can't ignore the facts. Asian people (which includes Indians obviously) have a higher risk of developing diabetes, atherosclerosis than our Western counterparts. It is for this reason that the BMI cut off values are different for Asians, when compared to the others.
INDIA is currently the DIABETES CAPITAL of the world! While hereditary factors play an important role in type 2 diabetes, lifestyle and habits play an even bigger role. Accumulation of visceral fat (around the organs like liver, pancreas etc) is very commonly seen in people who have excess fat around their tummies. And this is the most dangerous kind of fat.
You spoke about PCOS. Yes, I agree that women with PCOS have a hard time losing weight. But, one of the main reasons for developing PCOS is infact obesity and sedentary life style. It may not be so in every person, but it is one of the major reasons. And, although medicines are effective in PCOS, the ultimate solution to get your hormones under control is exercise and weight loss.
I agree we shouldn't skinny shame or fat shame anyone but at the same time, we shouldn't ignore the health risks of having too much body fat also..
Also, you are infact body shaming the actors for having thin bodies. Is that right?

I understand that being obese is a danger to health but I personally am speaking from my perspective. Not only obese woman get fat shamed, a normal girl of perfectly healthy weight is also met with the and unnatural standard of beauty from the media hun. I'm talking about the unnatural standards of beauty like being very thin ( which harms the body equally ) unnaturally fair and tall. And eating disorders are at it's core a mental health issue. I was never overweight just chubby but was perfectly healthy but still got fat shamed that led me to bulimia. What i understood from the video was we don't see weight as a health thing but we see weight in the context of beauty.
But again i disagree with fat shaming obese women as well cause that is not going to benefit anyone as emotional eating is one of the leading causes to food addiction. Yes, health is a problem for obese woman but we as a society have to create an environment and a long term solution for this rather then bullying people into thinness.

The worst feeling is when you're finally satisfied with your body, and someone criticises something you're insecure about. My body size is 40 - 28 - 40, which is not as horrible as it sounds. I have a fairly flat stomach, but of course I have a bit of lower belly fat. My hips are much bigger than my waist. Whenever I meet my grandma, she always says "Nim, you look like you've lost more weight. All you have left is to lose the weight on your hips, then you'll be beautiful". It honestly pisses me off, but all I can do is hate myself even more

The only reason I lost weight was because it was difficult for me to find my right size both online and offline and I got most of my clothes stitched . I remember once I was roaming in a market with my mom looking for a jacket ...then we came across a shop where the the shopkeeper told "maidam k size ka jacket nahi milega idhar " n that was the moment I felt terrible and it affected me to the core . Till that time I was okay with my body because I was always chubby but gained weight because of PCOS . I then started working out and did lose a few pounds . Today I am still curvy n chubby but not fat and I love myself n m not looking forward to be skinny anymore.
I just feel bad about myself because I hated myself when I gained weight. I should have embraced myself back then .

When your own support system leaves you out to dry, how will we create strong confident women?

  • @emilystewart7897

    Thin shaming - Cool
    Fat shaming - Oppression
Being thin has it's downsides - Flat chests and butt, being called things like kandi, lakdi, udd jayegi, sukha bombil, etc. There was a time when curvy and fat women were considered more attractive but nobody called it thin shaming. Shaming of any kind is wrong. Why isn't thin shaming not frowned upon like fat shaming? And then people say thin shaming isn't really a thing. It's just a compliment. A compliment, really? I don't deny that skinny bodies with curves in the right places are visually pleasing like VS models. But that's not true for everyone. Some might not find even the VS models attractive. And most of the skinny people don't have curves where it's needed. Same with the fair skin shaming. Dark skin is beautiful and so is fair skin. Neither one is above the other.
And it's not just India where this is a problem. It's everywhere.
Also finding skinny people to be attractive isn't fat shaming and vice versa. Everybody has a choice and a type.

I think Indians prefers to be healthy looking and even just have a bit of meat on you. I think being too thin is always put down. All of my family makes fun of me for being too thin, whenever we go to india. And ppl I don’t even know looks at me weirdly.
It has always made me feel self conscious. I don’t know if it’s in all of INDIA, Or maybe just KERALA. Because my parents are from Kerala and being thin is always put down in that state.
And obviously being too fat is also considered to be bad.😅

Hope to see more talented dark actresses in the future. The only dark actress that I can even recall is Nanditha Das, that too from her regional works.

The point is you should eat healthy and exercise regularly to stay fit and healthy. Not too fat or not too thin . Being fit is different from being thin . If your able to do your normal activities without your body bothering then your fit . I don't support this plus size body modeling they aren't plus size they are unhealthy . Being that fat is not healthy . Also being too thin is also not healthy . If your eating healthy and exercising regularly and being able to do your normal activities then your good that's it

As an Indian teenager, I came across some experiences where I hated myself and the way I looked. I was mocked, made fun of because of facial hair and thick body. Although mainstream Indian media is obsessed with thinness, 'curvy' is still the ideal of beauty in rural India. Being a skinny young adult from rural India, I have been shamed constantly for feeling comfortable in my own skin. At this point I have even stopped going to happy occasions as people point out "you are going to be a graduate and still look like this! You know, no man ever will marry you?" this association of seductiveness and being pleasurable to men in bed with an individual's whole existence is so depressing.

  • @AnshitaNupur

I don't know, this video made me feel like it said "thin women aren't real women", because the "real women" aren't portrayed in the media and "skinny women" are. For the girl who says that clothing manufacturers make impossible sizes for women in India, saying that nobody is that thin, and the one who is is trying to just conform to an impossible beauty standard, felt offensive to me, because I personally find it really difficult to find clothes that are XS or S in size, and all I see are clothes that are L and XL! I have been really skinny since I was young, and have constantly battled body issues because of it, because the beauty standards trending at that time were "Real women have curves." And still skinny women are seen as impossible and as those who are trying to 'create body issues among others with their flawless bodies'! It's frustrating, and skinny girls like me are never able to conform to one beauty standard because of it, and are always taunted by relatives and parents. India is not obsessed with thinness, it's infact obsessed with curviness, and no matter what the body positivity narrative, we are always on the brunt of it.

Being overweight is also not good. Don't think about what others say but do take care of your body. Workout is a necessity. Nobody's asking you to be supermodel thin but yes, calling obese body curvy is also not correct. We have to be practical and realistic. Some bulge here and there is fine, but eating unhealthy and gaining weight should not be supported. Similarly being thin just by avoiding food should also be discouraged.

Body positivity is important but it's not about accepting yourself it's about loving yourself. At the end of the day health matters so being fit is important.. I have started my journey to become fit.
So somebody's body shaming you it's totally bad but take it positively and become healthy.. because body shaming is not restricted to obesity.
