It’s great to see a professional doing a job properly. I’m just about to make my first ham and I can now see that there’s a proper way to do it. Excellent video. Thank you.
This absolutely deserves many more views and "likes". I loved seeing how your original ham was made on the inside - none of the instructions I find anywhere show that "inner ham" or even mention it. And no other vids I've watched or instructions I've read explain the method you used to get the "cover" to fit so smoothly and tightly over the "inner". AWESOME - I now feel like I have some clue how a professional, quality ham is made and what I should be aiming for when I make one. Thanks so, so much... Megan Edited to add - SUBSCRIBED! :-)
Hello, thank you for the tutorial, well explained :) I need to make a tailor's ham from scratch and but was wondering what kind of fabric do I need to use ? can I use merino wool with this ? Thank you !
Hi, M M, If the wool is sturdy, then use it. If it is very soft it may wear out sooner than something very sturdy but merino is probably just fine! Thanks for watching!
Hi, Megan, Actually, I thought I had replied to this but do not see any so am doing so again! The wool you use for a ham should be strong. Merino might be fine, you just want to be sure it is not so soft that it will not withstand the "abuse" it will get with heat, pressure and abrasion with use. Thanks for being in touch!
Hi, Sharon, Thank you for your question. If you cut the shape of the ham, the full length, from seam to seam is about 12" , the width across the full end about 9". At the narrow end, about 1" in, the measurement is 6 1/2". These measurements include 1/2" seam allowances all the way around. The stuffing makes the finished ham about 3"- 3 1/2" high. This ham is a moderate size. I often use larger ones and you can make them any size you want, they all work!
@@sallyseligman9894 thank you, very helpful information. Another thing is I thought I would make one side a cotton and the other wool. But what kind of wool? Wool that felts or not? I have walnut shells for the inner stuffing.
@@SharoninKentucky Hi, Sharon. A tightly woven wool that is of medium weight and not one that bleeds dyes. I would wash it first in warm or even hot water to shrink it. It will get lots of abuse so something strong. I used a scrap I had and so far it has held up just fine! Keep your pattern, if you make one, for future re-coverings. Thanks for the comment!

Hi, again, Megan!
We hope to have a lot more up soon!
Beautiful job! Love the idea of using linen on the reverse side. I have 2 hams to recover, and now I know how to do it! Thank you for posting.
Thank you for letting me know and I am so happy you liked the video! More to come!
I bought a vintage Weaver's ham for $10 as new ones and handmade ones aren't nearly firm enough! Now I know how to cover it. Thanks

I don’t have a ham but want to make one from scratch. What is the about size length, width and thickness? Thanks for the great tutorial.

What is the fabric used for the inner cover? Thanks
Hello, Lil, Thank you for asking! The underneath piece is a densely woven cotton. I would pre-shrink it before cutting and sewing.
@@SewWithSally Thanks Sally for your speedy reply. I will follow your good advice. 👍God bless us all. Amen
