After my 35+ years 'out' in the USA, I have found that the 'bear' community is the friendliest, most down-to-earth, sincere, most welcoming sub-group withing the greater male gay community.
Then why do they have "bear exclusive" bars as Meng mentioned in the video?
That doesn't sound very welcoming at all.
I think Bradely F is referring to the bear community as a whole in comparison to other sub-groups.

It finally happened! Bears BEARS 🐻! Andrew is a cub, you just need to grow the beard some more. A new bar to go! I went to Eagle Tokyo and had such a blast. People of all sizes and colors. Beyond welcoming. One curious thing in the apps was that everyone considers themselves Chub in Japan, even though some of them are just stocky. That beefy body plus face hair is HOT! Can’t wait to go back. Thanks for another great video ❤️

What strikes me about this exchange is you go into a place and begin a dialogue and some might think, 'oh, that's not done to ask these questions', but you, and very quickly, people open up.
I remember when I started going to Saunas in London, about twenty years ago, people wouldn't talk. They wouldn't interact verbally, because there was some unwritten code, that it was not done.
Maybe the reticence was that half the people were there surreptitiously - usually guys in straight marriages - and were scared of questions, or simply, of relaxing too much (as opposed to a quick in and out).
Anyway, I decided I'd break the written code, and always, when I did, the ice was broken and people opened up and started chatting. Indeed, over the coming years, I saw the scene grow and things become much more relaxed.
All it took was someone to break the silence and that's what you're doing great in your video!
I think this is my favorite video you've done so far- I laughed out loud multiple times and I love that Meng took charge of asking questions that you both seemed really curious about, but in a well- intentioned way.
Really fun video guys. I can’t believe Meng gets ignored. Surely he’d be the centre of attraction in any bar, no matter what the theme. Such segregated categories in bar life are an anathema to me to be honest but probably makes finding your type easier ❤️❤️❤️

This is a great video thank you! My fiancé and I are both bears and we were meant to visit Tokyo in 2019 (we are from London). I was a bit worried that as a 173cm, 120kg guy I might not physically fit into certain bars let alone be welcome. There is so much straight info on Tokyo and the gay info tends to be directed towards the young, thin guys, so this video is gold to me. More please! Also will Meng take Moco-san's suggestion and try to weigh as much as 20kg? Keep making videos guys, and when we finally get to Tokyo we owe you a drink!

Great video, I never realized how popular bears were in Japan until I moved to Sendai. In Yokohama/Tokyo I felt quite ignored on Grindr by the Japanese population (I probably should have used 9monsters). I moved to Sendai and downloaded 9monsters and everything has been great, except finding actual love of course. I’ve had many guys tell me they love a “bigger body” and they also like other bigger parts 💀. I do wonder though, do Japanese bear community discriminate against black guys... I guess the mileage varies. Anyway, great video! I’ll definitely go to this bar next time I’m in Ni-chome.

Your interviews are always interesting. It is enjoyable to hear about different cultures, and different countries. There are a lot of similarities, and differences in the communities. Like in the US... bears love their cubs... In the Philippines it is a 80/20 split of mostly tops. 😎

Honestly, the guys I‘ve seen “in the wild” that have openly liked me have been extremely creepy and touchy and I even stopped going out because I felt so uncomfortable.
Some weeks ago I met an amazing guy that took that fear away and he was so respectful and we had a lot of fun! I appreciate guys that like all kinds of different body types and not only the typical instagram models!

I wanted to say thank you very much for showing the bear community in Japan as a whole. It means a lot to viewers outside of the country to know that if they are to come to places like Tokyo they would be accommodated for and not feel as if they were extras per se.

By the way, I think Andrew is attractive just the way he is -- he is not "too skinny" nor fat. It's interesting to hear Andrew mention that he is sometimes judged by his skin [colour] in Japan; I suppose that gives him a bit of a sense of how black and brown people are judged / discriminated against around the world, which white guys don't usually get to experience.

Definitely a fun exploration of Bear culture in Japan! The GMPD acronym is very useful to know. Also a weird language quirk - D/S has a VERY different connotation in english (Dom/sub), so definitely something to be forewarned about if you're going from one culture to the other! I'm more used to the slim-chubby relationship as a "chaser."

I'm somewhat of a cub and I think you both guys are hot! I think my body is not big enough for the Japanese bear community but the regular or skinny gays think I'm fat hence no luck whatsoever lol. The bartender is right, I actually prefer very slim guys that are much smaller than me (sudden realization I am part of the D/S community!) and is not easy to match! Skinny guys like skinny guys, big guys like big guys and no one likes me lol XD
The mamma is so nice, I should visit this bar! There should be a bar for people who like their complete opposite body type (D/S bar) haha

Interesting to learn what D/S means in this context. I associate D/S mainly with dominance/submission, which is part of BDSM. But in Japan in general people seem to use some English words and shortcuts very differently than in the English-speaking world...
