This is a New York Steinway manufactured during the revered period in Steinway’s history when the quality of craftsmanship was unparalleled. The piano has just been meticulously rebuilt and refinished to look, sound, and play like it did when it was originally built.
This piano has new strings, tuning pins, damper felts, pinblock, bridge caps, key bushings, and front rail bushings. The action was also rebuilt with new backchecks and German Abel hammers, shanks, flanges, and whippens (repetitions), which are the correct specifications for Steinway pianos from this era.
The finish is the classic hand-rubbed, sprayed lacquer finish, which has many layers for a depth of appearance. The plate has been re-gilded, and all metal parts glisten like new. Great care has been taken in the regulation and voicing of the piano to provide a rich sound and even touch throughout the full range of the piano. If you are after a great Steinway M with no compromises, this is the piano for you.

This might be the most beautiful smaller grand that I've ever heard recorded, wow!

It always amazes me how spruce soundboards retain their acoustic qualities over a century after the instrument had left the factory 😮

Many people appreciate the quality of the soundboards, and the aging of the woods even before the pianos were built back then.

1917 was the first year of a new scale design for the Model M that continues to this day.

♬ I wonder, who was the first and second owner of this piano. What was it doing during WWII? Gary from Michigan. 🚂

If only pianos could talk! While it is easy to assess a piano's history in regards to how it was cared for, you can only imagine the music that emanated from a Steinway like this from so long ago.

You don’t see many like this one with the brass short lid lift stick. Mine has one and at night in a dim light you can’t see it that well because it’s so thin and the lid appears to be floating.

How do you describe the kind of sound this piano has not accounting for brightness? I want a piano that sounds like it was from Beethoven's time and finding a straight strung piano with this kind of sound and putting uniform hammers on it was what I was hoping to do but they're so hard to find where I live.
I do have a heintzman console piano in my basement in pieces with the iron frame and strings discarded that I intend to rebuild into a forte piano so I'm gonna work on experimenting with strings until I find an ideal material, tension and length for each note since converting the piano I have is my best bet.

There are at least three distinct pianos from Beethoven's lifetime since the piano was evolving so much at that time!

A beautiful restoration of a classic instrument. Beautiful playing as well. You took me back to when I was first learning that Mozart many decades ago.
