    Omg this is such a wonderful video and such a beautiful cake! I do have a question, I live in a very hot place where buttercream melts…does anyone have any tips as to have to cover a cake with fondant and not have it get al lumpy from the melted buttercream crumb coat?
    Putting in the fridge has not worked for me either was the fondant sweats and starts to get runny once I take it out of the fridge.

    • @TheLovelyBaker

      Thank you so much!! If you live in a warmer climate, I highly suggest giving chocolate ganache a try versus buttercream.

    Hello! Such a cute cake! I want to make it for my sons birthday but I’ve heard it’s so hard to make red and black fondant. Do you buy your red or black fondant or do you use coloring like Americolor?

    • @TheLovelyBaker
      @TheLovelyBaker  3 года назад

      Hey there!! Yes it can be such a pain in the butt to get those rich colors so I typically will buy my black and red fondant and mix it with a little bit of my homemade marshmallow fondant so I don't have to add as much gel. Adding the marshmallow fondant is optional of course, you can just use the regular fondant as is😊 I like the Satin ice brand!

    If I am trying to make raspberry buttercream when would I add raspberries ?

    • @TheLovelyBaker
      @TheLovelyBaker  3 года назад

      You can add your raspberries once your buttercream is all done, add them as a last step and make sure to mix them really well to avoid any splitting. You can also add freeze dried raspberries!

  • @sudishanaidoo830

    Hi Charity...I love how easy you made this cake look! Please can you tell me if you used gumpaste or normal fondant for the ears? And should this be made in advance? Also how did you judge how much of the round to cut off so that the ears sit flush to the head? Sorry for so many questions 🤦🏻‍♀️ I would really like to attempt this cake...but I'm a novice with so many questions 😄

    • @TheLovelyBaker
      @TheLovelyBaker  3 года назад +2

      No worries at all😊 I used normal fondant for the ears, you can add a little bit of tylose powder to help them set firm or you can just use gumpaste, either will work! You can absolutely make these ahead if you wanted to, and to gage how much to trim off the bottom, I just used my best judgement to make the first cut, then I held them up to the side of the head and just eyrballed if I needed a little more. I added my ears when they still had the tinest bit of give so that I could shape them a little if I need to:) that is probably the only downside of making these more than a day ahead because they will be completely firm before you add them.

    Hi there! I will be attempting to make this cake but i have a 9 inch circle pan for the cake. How wide does the mickey head in dome shape have to be? Would 6 inches be enough? Also, your fondant looks so lovely and glossy! Any tips on how to achieve that look?

    • @TheLovelyBaker
      @TheLovelyBaker  3 года назад

      Hi!:) I think a 7inch base on the domed head would pair nicely with a 9inch cake if you are wanting similar proportions to mine. If you are going to use rice krispies like I did, you can always eyeball it and then hold it up to the cake for comparison, and either add a little or take away depending on how you want it to look. If you are using cake for the head instead of rice krispies and only have a 6' dome, I think that would still look just fine! I use shortening on my hands when I am working with fondant so that it doesnt stick to me and that is why the finish is sometimes glossy looking, usually it dries down matte after a little while. Unless I am rolling out fondant to cover a cake, I try to avoid using cornstarch for rolling/handling smaller pieces so that it doesnt dry my fondant out or make it look chalky. Please let me know if you have any more questions!:)

    • @TheLovelyBaker

      Hello 😊The straws help to support the weight of the topper. Without them, the topper could sink down into the cake and cause bulging.
