To get it flush and keep it tight, you need to move the plastic piece that hooks to the ceiling to the BOTTOM of the rope. Weave it through the holes until it's pretty much all the way down there. An easy way to describe what to do is to move all of the plastic pieces as close to the bulb as possible. Hook it to the ceiling like that, slide the cover up and then tighten.
+Natalia Valenzuela I honestly don't know how to get that darn thing to hug the ceiling! I've fidgeted with it for to long before just giving up. It seems we're not alone though. Other's have had the same problem. Sorry. Thanks for watching, and be sure to subscribe so you can see daily videos. 👍
The Land of LandonLand alright, I've resorted to zip tying the wire about 7 times and taking it to the cuff thing. It's about an inch away from the ceiling. Your video definitely helped me with the installation! +1 sub
Hi! I recently bought one of these and a spring was in the box, the pulling system works but the light won't stay open. Was wondering if you were able to tell/ show me where it was on yours, thanks!
Can you send me a pic of the spring and I will see if I can find it on mine? That was I'll have a better idea of what I'm looking for. Thanks! crlandon@gmail.com.
I have the same problem I have the 52cm, the bigger one with 2 springs, I can't figure out how to get the mechanism to work, the ropes are not controlling the base of the mechanism, tried to untie it that doesn't work, I may be doing something wrong
I am having an issue with it when I pull to open and , I need to know how the string is looped to hold it up. I see one side has a plastic piece to hold it in place but the other side is just. Should the be a loop that keeps it tight? Can you show that in a video. Thanks.
Sorry it took me a while to get back to you. I will do a video again for you to show the mechanics of the lamp in hopes that it will answer any confusion or problems you may be having. Hang tight, it's coming. I promise!!
I have switched mine out for a "daylight" LED bulb. It helps out a lot more than the Ikea brand bulbs. Any bulb will work, but the daylight brightness does a pretty darn good job.
You have to cut the wire back to a shorter length, and then stuff the remaining wire in the cover. The loop that you run the white through SHOULD keep it from sliding down also. It doesn't do a very good job at it though.
@@TheLandofLandonLand Thanx for answer, its says nothing on cutting the cables in the manual. Ikea told me you coult adjust the lamp by just drag the cop up, but it didnt work.
Not that I'm aware. I have seen many different light styles in these, so you should be fine. It may be a short in the wiring that is causing the short... Just a thought. It is strange though.
Good question! I would probably suggest just going out and getting a higher watt LED and not use the suggested IKEA bulb. You'll be happy you did. Thank you for watching!
Is it light enough? I'm thinking about getting one but watching such videos and wondering if it gives enough light. It looks more decorative than functional to me.
Luckily when it's open you can reach in and unscrew the bulb and replace it with a new one. I recommend a daylight, bright bulb. That way, you get plenty of light since the outer parts of the light block a lot of the light from coming out.
I bought one of these and got a slight problem, which hopefully you might have an answer to. Like the problem you have in the video, the cup that holds all the excess wire is not sticking to the ceiling, and while yours is a slight gap, mine literally falls out. I've even tried gluing it, but it just falls off because of the weight of the lamp shade. How did you mange to keep it up? Did you only rely on that plastic hook fixture?
Y'know, that is something that bothers me everytime I look at it! The gap is annoying, and no matter how hard I try, it won't go away. Try trimming back some of the excess wire and see if that will help. I have been debating on getting it as close as I can, and then filling in the gap with caulk... Good luck, and thank you for watching!
For me, it's the weight of the lamp shade that's pulling it down because of the way the fixtures work on the cup. I just can't seem to reduce the gap to even as small as the one in your video. :/
Not a very well designed fixture, I guess. In the end, to prevent it from falling, I had to tuck mine away into the ceiling, and still, the gap is not a small as the one in your video, but it doesn't seem to be getting worse, luckily.

I tried that after making this actually and it kinda helped, a little. Since then, we moved, and it stayed behind.
Excellent light for a Kid's room, thanks for the very clear tutorial, I really appreciate it
👏👏
missdiva421 it really is. Thanks for watching!
Kid's room.. I was considering getting this for my livingroom :p .. .and kitchen
@@Mardana86 nice choice!
I just got this, you just earned a loyal subscriber and a like!
Nice, you're gonna love it! Thanks for the support!!! Take care.
What’s easiest way to clean inside the light? Thanks
Great reassurance video ... this answered so many questions that I had 👍🏼👍🏼
Glad I could help. Thanks for watching, and have a great day!
I like. I wonder how well it lights the room at night though?
Mad Archer Media meh, it's not as bright as I would like. Even when it's open, it's not very bright. But, it does look awesome when closed and lit up.
I think I'm going to change out the bulb with a brighter (non-Swedish) LED bulb. That should brighten up the room even more.
Mad Archer Media very dull.
@@jaykhan5421 I did swap the bulb out for a "daylight" LED, and it helped a lot.
The sliding stick got tighten...so when i pulling the rope...it's not moving....Any idea to loose up the sliding stick?
Excellent question. That may be a question to ask Ikea. Sorry i can't help you on my end. Hopefully they can on their end though. Good luck!
It is very cool 😎
It's cool to see what people have done to these to make them look more like the death star. That's some crazy talent!
Whats the metal plate on the ceiling called I need one to install this light
That I'm not too sure, I'm sorry. Ikea or Home Depot might be able to help figure that out. Hopefully. Good luck!
Nice.
Thanks!
Well thank you ikea. In the UK I got the large lamp. Did I get a hanging hook bracket? Did I buggery!
I'm not quite sure what buggery means, sorry.
Same where can you buy them
@@TheLandofLandonLand sorry didn't see your message. Did I buggery means did I heck.
How to change light bulb ?
You have to slide it between the insides and it just swaps right out. It's not too difficult.
The Land of LandonLand okay. I thinkkkk I understand 🤔
It's a little tight at times, but I have large hands. Good luck with it!
The Land of LandonLand I’m young so I’ll just ask me dad
@@Yaviince smart thinking.
How to replace bulb after installation?
You have to slide your hands in-between the pieces and carefully unscrew/ screw in the replacement.
How do I get the light to touch the ceiling like yours does, as I was having trouble with the string, too.

I have even seen one of these lights painted as a death star. As amazing as that looked, I don't have the time or patience to pull it off.
What do you do if you don’t have any ground wire?
That's a good question. I'm not sure on that one. Google may be the one to go to for that, or an electrician. Good luck!
Hi sorry to bother you ! Looking at buying this second b hand could you advise if this is the 35cm or 75cm one ?
I'm not sure actually. I know it's one of the larger ones, but I'm not sure on the exact cm size. Sorry.
How do you get it flush to the ceiling?
+Orace B here's what I've found... you don't. I can't figure out how to either. It's annoying! Sorry I don't have a better answer for you.
Mine just found it melted. Looks like the bit weight by which pull switch works.
Oh no! That's not good! So sorry to hear that. Hopefully it still works.

does any LED work, or only ikea types? we once bought lamps from there and standard bulbs would not fit
