    Ok here’s the deal. You need to race Tom. It’s the only way this feud is going to be settled.

    In junior ski racing, I only qualified for a national event once. My first GS run looked like a mess: I almost crashed 3 separate times and went around one gate with only my inside ski and hand ever touching the snow. It was honestly pretty scary.
    For my second run, I cleaned it up a lot. I was smooth and controlled the whole way down, on time through the gates. Any instructor would’ve liked it better.
    I also dropped from 50th to 66th. Coaches don’t want you to know this, but straight and late works

      Yeah there are alot more tactics than people realize. At smugglers notch on snake bite they have a steep to a flat to a final medium slope finish. You can be the faster skier for the top 30 gates, but if you mess up before the flats and have to scrub speed you lose so much time being slow through the flat and there's no way to get that speed back.

    This was a fun video to watch. The nightime shades (on, off, on off) cracked me up. I appreciate the nod to Tom's good content, as well as the interesting comparison of great form vs. speed.

      Trust me, athletes love to hyperfocus on gear minutiae. We just try to keep it to ourselves because it's a bit intense for public consumption.

    First half of this video is great- very fair and balanced review of BPS. IMO you lost the plot on the second half. The point of recreational skiing is not to go as fast as possible. For a lot of us, the form is the point. The best thing about carving clean turns for me is that the I get the same sensation/ adrenaline/ g force at a lower speed.

    • @RicketySkiReviews
      @RicketySkiReviews  15 дней назад +1

      That's fair, while editing i noticed the same thing, but I figured it was a fun way to talk about ski racing. Will stick to the plot a bit more next time.

    Content Ski Patrol returns Luv It! When teaching my nieces to ski I emphasize that skiing isn't an Exact Science. There's a degree of experimentation. Skiing w/Tom wouldn't be much fun IMO. At least for me, give me some observational feedback and a tip and I'll handle it! A friend told me I need to carve more and it changed my skiing life. Then racer Dan told me I A-frame in the turn transition and that too upped my carving game.

    Someone going in the same direction in relation to body mechanics for skiing technique like Tom Gellie but more exotic is Harald Harb with his PMTS system. He does not have so much content online like Tom does but you can find him easily on youtube. At 70 years of age he still has a beautiful form when skiing and makes some amazing short turns. Would be nice to hear your opinion about him also.

    The Atomic Mav 86C ski is amazing! Just beware the Salomon demo bindings when buying off evo aren't compatible w/walkmode boots. I had a miserable Day 1 Nov 8th popping out the bindings dozens of times onto hardpack save yourself major misery.
    The ski rips. Day 2 on Tuesday I was mostly Sending big jumps landing on hardpack until my knee didn't like it. Hey I almost nailed Shifty finally damnit! Day 3 today didn't have the jumping knees so really put them through their carving paces. The ski really holds an edge and carving turns are super fun even as the groomed started to mogul up. Zero ski chatter and when you cross an icy flat section the ski grips and instills confidence. Skiing dust on crustish moguls was a blast and although I lost an edge a few times I'd attribute that to my lack of skiing skill. Skiing Switch is great fun and the ski really Sends if you want and just rips down the mtn if you straight line it. 3-4" of fresh snow today a guy on wider skis was complaining that it was too much work, but I found the Atomic Mav 86C absolutely at home in a few inches of fresh and the hardpacked underneath once it was skied out. I was looking for a carving ski & winter daily driver and think I've succeeded! A big thanks to you Elliot for recommending a carving ski for my quiver and exposing me to the Atomic Maverick line of skis, as well as the Bent series while I sing your praises! You've expanded my skiing horizon a true gift and I do appreciate it!

      @@RicketySkiReviewsyou betta axe somebody, lol. Just kidding, I can tell you’re being sarcastic. The shades look like Vuarnet 02 cateyes but are missing the proper markings. If they’re genuine, they could have worn off. Temple screws don’t look correct though (pins were used on the older models and tend to be bronze in color). Lenses look like Skilynx but hard to tell. Still cool though and Vuarnets are iconic eyewear. Nothing better on the mountain than a pair with Skilynx lens.

    1) You can't teach speed. You can make someone go faster, but going really fast is something internal. 2) Pretty isn't fast and speed isn't pretty. Remember Franz Klammer's gold medal run Innsbruck 1976? He was wild, all over the place. Bob Beattie was slagging his run until the time splits came in. I can't sit through Tom's interviews either. They are too long and really does not pass on any relevant content.

    I am faster than all you guys. I don't know about that looking into your turns. I do it some. So? Is there some big payoff? It's OK. I don't mind it. I'm from VT.
