In May 2017, I rode my bicycle from Baker, NV, to Carson City, NV, and spent Memorial Day eve sleeping in my tent outside the bar at Middlegate. Food was great, music was loud, people were nice. Nevada was my favorite segment of a 9000+ mile solo bicycle tour around the USA when I retired.
In 2015, my wife and I took Rte. 50 from Winchester Virginia to Sacramento California. One of our favorite road trips across the country. It is truly the loneliest road! Tent camped all the way. In fact, our favorite stop was the KOA on the outskirts of Ely Nevada. Cannot say enough about the folks who run the place!
Your videos are outstanding, and the drone shots make them even better. I did the "Loneliest Road" about 10 days ago. Passed passed Middlegate and missed the shoe tree, which I really wanted to see. Did stop on the other side from you at Cold Springs. In addition to the restroom there is a kiosk describing the history of the Pony Express at that station. Did not see the stage station and telegraph station on the side you stopped on. Guess I will have to do the "road" again next spring. Thanks for posting. Did stop at Sand Mountain....impressive. Can't wait to see your video.
Hey Russ! 🙋♀️Just in case no one has said it today, you're doing a fantastic, super duper, supercalifragilisticexpialidocious job! The quality of this video is outstanding!❤️
Great job, Russ! The best tour of the Loneliest Road I've seen. I particularly like your narration, your stops at all the story boards, and your extensive aerial drone footage to cover all the interesting places. Your tours are unique in that respect. I've been following your channel for several years now, and really enjoy it.
I stopped and pulled my Semi Truck on the shoulder because Chicago traffic is really bad but I enjoyed watching your video while traffic loosened up a bit ✝️🇺🇸
Saw a lot of this road watching Ron Coleman "Grey Wolf" as he walked that entire stretch. The monthly fish fry at middle gate has people coming for miles to indulge, the shoe tree there has some interesting history, there is also an area back toward Austin where someone wrote out the preamble to the constitution in rock
Great video. I live on hwy 50 in Indiana. It's not so lonely on my stretch lol. I called my 14 yr old son in to watch the video with me and he was blown away that you could take 50 all the way to California. Safe travels 🙏
Been to Middlegate several times when I lived and worked in Hawthorne. Pretty cool place. It gets packed on the weekends. Look for my dollar on the ceiling. Lol
Been checking all day for you to post video. Starting to get worried about you Russ! Loneliest road in America. Oh my!!! Thanks for taking us on your awesome journey!!!
Hello! My husband and I just returned from a 4,600 mile trip from Michigan to Reno. We traveled from Vernal Utah to Reno via this route with a stay in Eureka. We loved it & so much fun to see it all again thru your eyes! Thanks 😊
Drove this for the first time 2 years ago. Beautiful blue sky with white cotton clouds. Long stretches of lonely highway, with small patches of humanity separated by long stretches of good, lean back, open country driving. If you ever get the chance, make this a bucket list drive. Worth every mile.
Middlegate is a great Bar and they have GREAT food . If you can eat the MONSTER burger ,they’ll give you a T-shirt saying you did it. I’m 6’5” 260 lbs and I couldn’t finish it all. But IT WAS GREAT !! I wish I’d come here when I was 20something, I could have done it then. Nice Folks.
Another cool video.. I love trees but it's a nice change from Ohio's roads so many that are lined w trees on both sides. Love the wide open spaces. Thank you, Russ.
I hope you make it back to civilization soon ... Strange that you find this barren landscape not very far from tremendously beautiful Lake Tahoe. I'm glad you make us discover new features of Nevada. Beautiful work ! RICHARD
Brings back memories. I Cowboyed for the Campbell Creek Ranch between Middlegate and Austin in the late 70s. Big Country. I may or may or may not have drank Beer in Middlegate. Thanks for the Memories
I'm a new guy at your channel. I really appreciate the U.S. 50 video's. I drove 18 wheelers for a while. On one trip I went from I-15 in Utah to Carson City, NV. on U.S. 50 and never saw pavement, snow packed the entire trip and never used chains, didn't carry um. On Memorial Day weekend a few years I stopped at Middlegate Station on a Friday evening, loved it so much and had so much fun I spent the entire weekend there watching The Indy 500 and Coke 600 before continuing the trip east this time. I stopped by a few more times over the years but haven't been up that way in at least 15 years. Great to see the place, it looks exactly as it did years ago. Thanks again for the great work, enjoyed all the vid's I've watched so far. Keep up the good work and thanks again.
Another cool video Russ. Just wondering if you have gotten lonely on these drives😁 but I bet the peacefulness is worth it especially if your from the city. Thanks again for the video.
I haven't been out to Tonopah since I was a little kid. My dad worked out there for several years with an owner of one of the casinos doing construction. This was back in the mid or late 80s.
Oh wow! It's been so long I had forgotten my amazing memories of Middlegate Station! I've got some pictures of me and my friend behind the bar pouring shots for our large group. I grew up camping and riding at Sand Mountain, and then when they came out with new toys like the Polaris Razors we decided to take those all the way to Middlegate for some drinks. I'll never forget how shocked I was A. That it existed there in the absolute middle of b Nowhere and B. That the owners were the loveliest most lively and accommodating folks we had ever met. We had the drinks pouring, food was amazing, and I'm about 90% sure karaoke may have happened at some point. A TRULY special place. Thanks for sharing! Going to watch Sand Mountain video next. Nostalgia 🙏🤍
Like Route 66. I would love to follow route 50 from the beginning on the east coast to where it ends on the west coast. It would be a interesting trip. Great video Russ keep up the great work with your videos.
You don't run out of interesting things. Love that history. Amazing even a little bit of the building was left. The shoe tree had 2 horses by it. Great drone footage. I would definitely stay at Middle gate Station, nostalgic. Like that road. Not sure I'd want to live so far out. Ty. 🙂👍
A Tuber that keeps his glass clean. How refreshing! There must be an underground stream to sustain the trees & shrubs. 'Monsoon season" wouldn't be enough.
I like and enjoy your videos. You do an excellent job at filming. Your voice and laugh enhance your video travels and your narrative’s add another level of enjoyment.
Hi RVer - I didn’t know there were ranches on the high desert until watching your videos. Being a 🇨🇦 I’m learning a lot of fascinating things about Nevada. There’s a lot more to it than what I thought. Also enjoyed your visit to the WW2 museum airport in Wendover NV/UT on a previous video. Cheers!
Russ my love, thank you for taking us along on your adventures. I feel like I get to get out of the house by watching your videos. It’s great to see all these out of way places you visit. My love take care and stay safe 🌈🌞👍🕊❤️🇺🇸🌹🍺😇🙏🎈
Nevadans are peculiar about our roadside attractions. The original tree was at Middlegate until some fool knocked it down. Harrumph! So we found another old cottonwood and filled it with shoes, too. So there! Nyah!
G'day Russ, I traveled the Lincoln when I lived in the US, stopped at the same points of interest. We used to use H50 traveling from Eden UT to Carson City NV
Russ, another great video. I love the story boards and your narration. Ya know thru your videos I've seen some places I had overlooked or just didn't seem to interest me, till your videos. Thanks for sharing
When we were in Pahrump working the summer of 2008 the Nevada Travel had cd's you could play as you drove along describing the towns histories. We gave ours away -wish I still had them. Guess they don't do them anymore.
Load at the mine in Gabbs Nevada fairly frequently, stopped at middlegate, slept there too on occasion, one those places you have to be going to to get there, or even know it exists.👍
I’ve been off road a number of times in that area, going to Berlin and Quartz Mountain. Some petrified wood in the area and I once picked up a deputy sheriff because his patrol car was stuck in some sand.
How many State Troopers did you see on this stretch. This highway reminds me of Montana where you should be able to go a little over the speed limit without problems? Love your videos.
...I wonder if some of those shoes are old enough to have grown up with the tree, and that's why they're so high ? .......Another fine 'escape' for me , thank you Russ.....
Happy Trails, United States America , Russ , RVerTV Fans. We Love RVerTV - Grand Journey Thru , U.S.A. - Grand Videos - Grand Music. Thank you Russ - RVerTV - TOO COOL 4 SCHOOL .🙂
I spent a night there in June on my way from Utah to California... The owner was awesome. I didn't know how hungry I was, until I walked in the front door and the grill was there w/sizzling burgers... The aroma was just overwhelming... Needless to say, had a burger for dinner that night. The rates for a room were very reasonable... Should've stayed another night. The staff were just wonderful...
Thank You for a terrific video. It’s such beautiful country out there. Personally I like the road from Lida Junction to Big Pine, especially the last 20 or so miles. I think it’s Hwy 266 then finish on 168. Thanks again 🙏
At the very beginning of this video, you passed the most interesting way to go to or from Middlegate, Nevada route 722. It goes through a scenic canyon. It's an older routing of US50.
This video reminds me when I run from Zion NP to Yosemite NP. After passing alien center near AREA 51, I met really long hot Nevada desert drive. And as Russ told, driver should fill Gas FULL. Even i didn't run US loneliest road, Could feel what Russ means. Great video.
🙋Hello Russ! It was really nice to see parts of the past protected. Can only imagine what it would have been like in 1860. How many feet stopped to seek shade from this tree, or, walked past this tree? Love the aerial views. Beautiful blue color in the far off mountains. Seeing all those shoes says someone sure has a good throwing arm out there. In hopes you get a good nights rest Russ. I hope the heat hasn't been too rough on you. Looking forward to next video. 👍
Oh Russ you can make the darndist places look interesting. But that area is pretty ugly. That's why no one hardly lives there...Oh and then there's the winter times. The wind gusts of 50 mph and blows away any snow, below zero temps, highway 50 shuts down sometimes...Then it gets REAL lonely.
That’s really awesome! Must have been quite an experience!
Awesome.
9000 miles....???? I would not even want to drive that far.
Are you nuts? It’s roosting in May
Gotta admit I’m impressed with that “ ride”.
The aerial drone shots really put things in perspective. Nice job, Russ.
In 2015, my wife and I took Rte. 50 from Winchester Virginia to Sacramento California. One of our favorite road trips across the country. It is truly the loneliest road! Tent camped all the way. Great video! I highly recommend visiting Gabbs during the tarantula migration in October.
Hey Hey it's our RVerTV Russ, I Call Dibs On Riding Shot Gun Today, Thanks my friend Russ. 👍

Bluest skies. Wow. Beautiful. Historical. LOVE the aerial views! Holy moly, Russ! Thanks so much.

I agree , Elwood.
Outstanding drone video as always. Many people use drones as toys. Russ uses them to teach and inform. Well done!
the food is amazing
I love to get away from it all by watching your videos.
The loneliest bar in America as well 🙂
The drone view was Awesome! Thanks for Sharing!
I stopped and pulled my Semi Truck on the shoulder because Chicago traffic is really bad but I enjoyed watching your video while traffic loosened up a bit ✝️🇺🇸
17 people that like their solitude! Another great video, Russ! Thanks.

Loved the overview with the drone, saves on the walking in the desert heat! My way to travel 👍

Thank you for sharing your Videos.
Middlegate is a great Bar and they have GREAT food . If you can eat the MONSTER burger ,they’ll give you a T-shirt saying you did it.

Good to see your still having fun! Makes it seem easy..
Thanks for the great drone video. It's so cool to see the area from the air.
Another cool video.. I love trees but it's a nice change from Ohio's roads so many that are lined w trees on both sides. Love the wide open spaces. Thank you, Russ.
I love your videos! I binge on them sometimes. Thank you for showing all the places you wouldn’t of known existed!

One of my favorite stops on my Harley coming back from anywhere east......
Thanks for taking us along !!! Yup , too cool for school for sure !!! Thanks for sharing Russ! 👍
We enjoy watching your Videos as much as you enjoy making them! Keep up the fun work!
So beautiful! I live in a crowded city in a rain forest - this semi-arid region is beautiful to me. Great photography.
Beautiful as always
Beautiful highway...Big open sky...🙏🙏
Another cool video Russ. Just wondering if you have gotten lonely on these drives😁 but I bet the peacefulness is worth it especially if your from the city. Thanks again for the video.

Try the stretch from Susanville, CA to Burns, OR. Desolate and lonely!
I've traveled that area several times, but for pure desolation, imo it just doesn't compare to Hwy 50.
Cool drive Russ, thanks. 🇦🇺🇦🇺

Hey Russ!!! It's "NOT LONELY" you've got "THE BEAST"!!! Be Safe!!!
It's in very great shape!
Nevadans are peculiar about our roadside attractions. The original tree was at Middlegate until some fool knocked it down. Harrumph! So we found another old cottonwood and filled it with shoes, too. So there! Nyah!
I am making that trip, east bound, thanks for the info
outstanding post...........really enjoyed it.
Way cool video thanks for letting us tag along we enjoy every every trip with you Russ yay
They had a shoe tree, right out of Reno , going towards Susanville, CA. They took all the shoes off a few years ago.
G'day Russ, I traveled the Lincoln when I lived in the US, stopped at the same points of interest. We used to use H50 traveling from Eden UT to Carson City NV
Worked on a farm right there.
Russ, another great video. I love the story boards and your narration. Ya know thru your videos I've seen some places I had overlooked or just didn't seem to interest me, till your videos. Thanks for sharing
Lol...I thought the shoe tree was the name of a certain kind of tree, then I saw the shoes. Safe Travels
When we were in Pahrump working the summer of 2008 the Nevada Travel had cd's you could play as you drove along describing the towns histories. We gave ours away -wish I still had them. Guess they don't do them anymore.
You’ve shared places I’ve never heard of and places I’ll never see. Thank you Russ.
Great use of the drone
I have been there on a week long motorcycle ride about twenty years ago.
Load at the mine in Gabbs Nevada fairly frequently, stopped at middlegate, slept there too on occasion, one those places you have to be going to to get there, or even know it exists.👍
Enjoyed! Thanks Russ!
In my way back to California from Sturgis I rode across 50 it was awesome
YAY!!!
I’ve been off road a number of times in that area, going to Berlin and Quartz Mountain. Some petrified wood in the area and I once picked up a deputy sheriff because his patrol car was stuck in some sand.
did he give you a ticket for picking up a hitchiker?
@@chuckstith838 no he was stuck in deep sand and I drove him to Fallon
Wow! Who knew you could grow shoes 😅 Thanks for more fun on “our” road trip! We might need an ice cream stop 😂👍
How many State Troopers did you see on this stretch. This highway reminds me of Montana where you should be able to go a little over the speed limit without problems? Love your videos.
That is by far, one of my favorite roads to travel on!
Live those roads out there.
...I wonder if some of those shoes are old enough to have grown up with the tree, and that's why they're so high ? .......Another fine 'escape' for me , thank you Russ.....
The weight of all these shoes eventually kill the tree. Another monument to man's stupidity
Very interesting especially drone footage. I've driven US 50 and its cool.......

Great video...... I like your style.
I bet the smell of the shoes killed the tree. 😂
Great video love the views. I always wanted to take that rout.
Thanks Russ for the travel tips. I’m making my second road trip from Ontario to Nevada next summer and HWY 50 is on my list.
Yo Russ, Middlegate Bar looks like my kind of place
Another amazing video. Love the drone coverage of the stage coach stops. See any UFO's out that way! HAH. Sorry again we missed your live.
I spent a night there in June on my way from Utah to California... The owner was awesome. I didn't know how hungry I was, until I walked in the front door and the grill was there w/sizzling burgers... The aroma was just overwhelming... Needless to say, had a burger for dinner that night.

Should've stayed another night. The staff were just wonderful...
It's fenced off for time travelers, ya just never know.... Great Job
Way COOL

13:19 is a stunning shot. I will bet there are less than 100 people all together in that entire shot.
Been 4 years since the wife and I dropped in the Station for a burger, NEED TO GO BACK!
