  • The National Highways Authority of India is planning to build a four lane expressway through the Bannerghatta National Park. Bannerghatta is a protected area south of Bengaluru and is home to several endangered mammals and birds. The protected area is an important link in a large Elephant corridor and is also home to two tigers, making Bengaluru the only city in the world with wild tigers. Bhanu Sridharan reports on what is at stake with the project.

This approach depletes what little greenery we have left around the city and instead of solving the problem, this shifts the problem. Let's not forget the trash that will become the next problem when people traveling on these roads start disposing garbage onto the pristine land below. It is sad to see these types of invasive approaches being cleared without hesitation. While many cities are trying to increase greenery, Bangalore is doing a fine job moving away from it. Hats off to the reporter and the wildlife expert weighing in on this and I hope your voice is heard.
