Whenever I go jam that's the amp I bring Marshall Code... It's very light weight and easy to dial in a fast sound. I have the Boss 100 watt head as well. I dont use it often. It's the 1st year. The Marshall I dial in off my phone app..great demo Shawn. Your great playing would sell any amp. :)
THANK-YOU! Finally someone gave a look at this thing without false advertising of a 100 combo and you get the 25 or 50. Awesome. Now I can buy this thing after hearing it and it is HUGE!
I jammed out on one of these in a music store and it didn't sound like this lol. Shawn Tubbs could plug his guitar into a refrigerator and get better tone than me hahah
take a preset, copy it, send it to a location then modify it...this way you dont lose the original...(although there is a reset...but i belive that puts allof them back to factory
Sounds good! The way Marshall marketed the Codes, on their release, didn't appeal to me. They seem to tout the integration with the iPhone to changes settings and parameters and that is the last thing I wanted to include in the chain. Should have spent more time working through the display showing how easy (or not) it is to set parameters. But for the price point and what it's meant to be, I think Marshall did good (although a little late to the modeling game).
I just bought my first Marshall. A '74 1987 JMP. It only took me 30 years. When it arrived I did a few quick tests, and decided I wanted a higher wattage speaker, that arrived a few days later. As I wired it into my rig, I wanted it to come up beside my Marshall reproduction amps, so I could compare. Seems everybody has tried to capture the sound of a Marshall. Dang thing is loud. For the mic pre, I ended up stealing a channel from another Marshall, and use a DRS-Q4 from Phoenix Audio, it has built in EQ. It is so loud, the level of bass was obscene. The EQ allowed me to boost the highs and cut the lows, so the amps EQ would behave normally and the results natural. Suddenly the Marshall sounds were more unified. The high volume of the amp was blowing up the mix, it always filled the preamps cup to the rim, it always has tons of bottom end, it is always enormous sounding. I thought, man, this is easy. You get a great recording with Marshalls, they're loud, and the mic preamps sound better (and do less work). So I turned to the other amps and cranked them up similarly. They would also fill the mic preamp with sound, bottom end unavoidable. I've been recording quietly all this time! Not any more! I learned something. But the touch sensitivity is something worth writing home about. When you gently play the strings, it comes out clean. A really loud, nice, clean like a Mesa's clean channel. But when you add subtle attack, it comes alive. When you go savage, the amp roars. That is amazing. That can't be emulated. Even my other amps, all the expensive gear I've bought over the years doesn't compare, what so ever. They can match the gain, it takes several presets, but none of them have the touch sensitivity that this old Marshall has. It took me forever. I was hesitant, reluctant all these years to brave into loud Marshall territory. I learned a lot. Recording loud is a new experience, all of my existing amps had new voices to discover.
Forgot to ask, what speakers are in the 2x12 cab you ran it into? I have the head and run it into a v30 cab. Excellent sounds once you disregard the factory presets.. Hah!
Shawn Tubbs is a guarantee for a maximum of quality in playin`. If the sound needs more, it is still the amp itsself........in this case is it awesome -
I am debating on buying the Marshall Code 100 because my friends keep on saying that it sounds awful in person but I personally think it sounds great when people on RUclips do reviews on it sooo I just want to know what you think about the amp, does the amp sound truly amazing?
Honestly the stock presets are not that great. You have to take some time to dial things in but if you do it's sounds really good. For the money the Marshall Code and Boss Katana are pretty hard to beat!
It's great. I have the 25-watt and just that in itself has encouraged me to play guitar 50 times more than I used to (and I played a LOT before I got it). Having the 100 watt is definitely the ideal experience.
Thanks! I didn't have it long enough to really dive into all of the digital interface features. I did read that there was a global online library of user presets that could be accessed via the edit app.
Shawn your demo of this sold me on one. Bought the 100 head for late night practice. Have you tried plugging your phone/iPod into it and using headphones to play along to music? That’s what I’m wanting to use it for primarily.
As always, thanks for the reply Shawn! Yeah, was looking for a small practice amp to have at home to learn tunes on. Will look into the 50 or 25. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!
with the code 100 combo, you have an effects loop (not present on the 25/50 watt models) and a speaker out option, so you can use a 4 x 12 cab. For the latter you should turn off the speaker emulation. But in a nutshell, everything that you can turn on, you can turn off for this amp.
Of course Shawn will make it sound good, it's his job and he's good at it .. just remember what kinda money your paying for this amp for goodness sakes, probably the price of a good night out (those wuz the dayz) the general rule applies, you get what you pay for, the variety and quality of today's entry level amps is fantastic, and the price.
It's not bad Mike. It's hard for me to be overly critical of an amp that is sitting at a price point of $399.00. For the money there's a lot there for sure.
Shawn, this seems to have some nice crunch tones but overall lacks the bottom end the Katana has....but this is listening thru iPhone speakers... Is that accurate in the room as well?
Question to Shawn: I was thinking of getting a Marshall CODE100 combo amp. On the back of that amp, there's an 8ohm cabinet connection OUT jack. The manual says "26. SPEAKER OUTPUT (CODE100H ONLY)", so I'm not sure if one CAN even use an external cabinet, as that part is unclear (why put an output jack on the combo version if it can't be used???). At any rate, scenario: If I connect that jack to, say, an external Marshall Lead 1960 cabinet, will the combo amp's internal speakers CONTINUE to work WHILE the external cabinet is connected, or will it ONLY play through the external cab when connected? I'm asking because I thought it would be cool to have a true "stereo sound" in my jam room, keeping the combo nearer me and then placing the larger 1960 4 x 12 cabinet cross the room for a big, wide sound. Comments or suggestions?
I'm thinking about about getting the code 100. Would you say it's loud enough for gigging? Great post btw. Also, what If don't want to use the supplied on board effects, I have a bank of pedals at my disposal. Would love to hear a Gibson Flying V through one of these.
Having had multiple Marshall tube Amps (JCM's mainly) I now have this amp for 3 months and it's a beast, but it totally depends what kind of cab you place under it......I have an old Johnson 4xV30's in it and it blows the socks from your feet with this Amp....almost no difference in my honest opinion...also for Rock and Metal this thing will do what it is supposed to do....but get a good cabinet and you will really be surprised. I still love the JCM's, but all the hassle with pedals etc. (feeling like Fred Astaire all evening) is gone...it's all in there, all effects.....especially when you combine it with the big foot pedal !.......:-)
I am dubbing between this Marshall Code 100 and a Fender Champion 100. Wich one would you recommend? (I play an Ibanez guitar, and play (punk)rock/ metal.)
I, unfortunately, don't have any experience with the Fender Champion 100. When I think punk rock/metal I do tend to think Marshall.;) Thanks so much for watching Peter!
Hey man! Is this code 100 will be great for a bedroom practice? I am currently using zoom G5n but I want to change my setup using the code 100 for amp simulators and use a stompboxes... i wanna know if I can dial the marshall plexi all 10 like what van halen did but the volume will set as too low? thank you and God bless😇😇
Don't listen to others, listen to your ears. :) People tend to give these modelling amps a hard time, but when I use my tube amp at home it just keeps annoying me, can't get THAT tone. Then I go back to either my Bias FX rig or my modelling amp, and you always know what you'll be getting. :)
How well does it hold the tones at higher volumes if you don't mind me asking? I've been looking into a low wattage all tube setup for playing gigs in a cover band where we play everything from old-school country to some modern hard rock and I'd like to hear some input from somebody who's played through these amps. As soon as I saw Marshall was making a modelling amp, I had to at least give it some serious consideration (especially when I saw the price!). Thanks!
It stays pretty solid at higher volumes. The only comparison I really have to go on without going into way higher priced pieces like Fractal or Kemper would be the Boss Katana. Between the two I would be more apt to go for the Katana 100 imho. The Katana was easier to dial up- for me at least. I liked the Code 100 but there were some noise floor issues as I turned the volume up but that's from a very studio nerd perspective. The Code 100 is killer for the money no doubt! Just my two cents. Thanks for tuning in!
I also own the 25w version and it sounds very good. I dare to say it’s one of the best simulation based “cheap” amps on the market. The best part of it is that you get to know and virtually play all kind of Marshall amps with all marshall cabinets. It is also very versatile! I’m now planning to buy this 100w combo or the head with the cabinet.
Just got the Code 100 combo, great amp, but the Google play store Marshall Gateway app is abysmal. The Google play store states my phone is not compatible with the software so it won't down load. The specs for the app state Android 4.4 or higher, which is a load of arse juice. Looked on the Marshall Gateway site, hundreds of issues being reported. Guess I should have looked there first huh.
If you haven't already. You can install it on a compatible device, backup the app and copy it to the incompatible app you want to use. I have a cheap chinese phone that can't run google play and has something called YunOS running on it, based on Android 5.1. Works fine when installed from the installer .apk.
Indeed, when I politely complained to Marshall on their site, I suggested an alternative download source and they put a link to the .apk on the Marshall Code pages.
After many months searching for a decent rig under 600 . I finally narrowed it down to boss katana 100watthead and Marshall 2x12. But found this combo and it's amazing
The tone you get at 2:02 is truly AC/DC to the T. I've yet to hear any other Blackstar (or other amp) truly sound as "classic good" as this one!
Just got the Code 100H today . First Marshall I’ve owned and love so far
2:23-2:28 (or so): I want the tab for THAT lick. Wow. Great playing, Shawn.
NOTE: Always turn the Cab sim off unless you're recording direct. Also, ignore the presets - they suck. Make your own settings.
JCM800 for the win! Killer tone and playing! Can't wait to get my CODE 100 head (on Friday)!!
Andy K hey ansy, is it possible to connect the code100h to a Yamaha Hs8? Or any other monitors.
Yes, if you use the 1/8" Aux output into a powered monitor.
I have the Code 100 head and the JCM800 emulation really nails it.
THANK-YOU! Finally someone gave a look at this thing without false advertising of a 100 combo and you get the 25 or 50. Awesome. Now I can buy this thing after hearing it and it is HUGE!
Thanks for tuning in!!
I jammed out on one of these in a music store and it didn't sound like this lol. Shawn Tubbs could plug his guitar into a refrigerator and get better tone than me hahah
The factory presets leave a bit to be desired in my opinion. You really need to be able to sit and build your own presets.
Shawn Tubbs I figured as much. Only had a few minutes to noodle with it before my kid got bored on the electric drums and I had to parent again lol
I suppose this means over writing the existing presets?
The existing presets are not that great.
take a preset, copy it, send it to a location then modify it...this way you dont lose the original...(although there is a reset...but i belive that puts allof them back to factory

i could not pay attention to the amp. i was way to focused on his style of playing! f**ing godly.
Dang man! You just sold this thing!!!
Sounds awesome but then again Shawn could make any amp sound amazing
Sounds killer!
Sounds great!
Sounds great
Forgot to ask, what speakers are in the 2x12 cab you ran it into? I have the head and run it into a v30 cab. Excellent sounds once you disregard the factory presets.. Hah!
Bogner Closed Back 2x12 with Cele V 30s.
Shawn Tubbs is a guarantee for a maximum of quality in playin`. If the sound needs more, it is still the amp itsself........in this case is it awesome -
How yours singles coins thers no noise?
I am debating on buying the Marshall Code 100 because my friends keep on saying that it sounds awful in person but I personally think it sounds great when people on RUclips do reviews on it sooo

buy the amp yes it is amazing, lots of voices, different amps sounds, you will rock the house.
You may be right for the 25 or 50 watt. I have the 100 watt code combo, I have no issues with it at all.
2:15 my favorite
Hey Shawn nice video! I heard that you can download other models on the code. Is it true? Thanks!
Thanks! I didn't have it long enough to really dive into all of the digital interface features. I did read that there was a global online library of user presets that could be accessed via the edit app.
Shawn Tubbs Thanks for the help.
Shawn your demo of this sold me on one. Bought the 100 head for late night practice. Have you tried plugging your phone/iPod into it and using headphones to play along to music? That’s what I’m wanting to use it for primarily.
I never got around to trying that but I thought it would be a great utility for practice for sure!!! Thanks for watching!
Great vid Shawn!
Thanks, Chris!
can you get ther crunch/overdrive sound at low voume with this amp?
yes
Hey Shawn. How does it feel under the finger? Has the digital technology improved? Thanks!
It's not bad Rik. It doesn't feel as good as an analog tube amp but it is pretty good and at a price tag of $399.00 the Code 100 has a lot to offer.
As always, thanks for the reply Shawn! Yeah, was looking for a small practice amp to have at home to learn tunes on. Will look into the 50 or 25. Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!
I think either the Marshall Code 50 or the Boss Katana 50 would be great for that! Thanks again for tuning in Rik!
Thanks Shawn!
Is it possible turn off the cab simulation?
Yes. Thanks for watching!

What speakers and cabinet did you play this through? It's definitely an improvement over my Marshall Code 50.
I ran this into a Bogner 2x12 loaded with Cele V30's
Can you please send me your JCM800 preset? It sounds amazing
Thanks, Dino but I've already sent that amp back to AMS. Sorry about that.
Shawn Tubbs no problem thank you anyway :)
Great playing, but actually wanted his opinion on the amp.
Nice do you think it's too loud for a house or is the 50 better for that
I would go with the 50 for sure.
Nice! I wan't to buy one but everyone is telling the sound is bad and "muffled"... What you think?
I didn't find it to be dark sounding.
How did the amp feel in your room.|??
It's not bad Mike. It's hard for me to be overly critical of an amp that is sitting at a price point of $399.00. For the money there's a lot there for sure.
Must be nice! They're almost $700 here
So all these presets come stock with the amp.
No those are actually my presets.
Shawn Tubbs what about the jcm 800, jubilee, and other amps such as those. Are those included or do you have to download this amps.
No the Jubilee, JCM 800 and the JTM45 and many others are all included.
Shawn, this seems to have some nice crunch tones but overall lacks the bottom end the Katana has....but this is listening thru iPhone speakers...
Is that accurate in the room as well?
It has as much low end as the Katana for sure. Thanks for tuning in Jeff!
When you turn the amp on, is there a bit of a whine even with all controls turned to zero? Thanks.
I didn't notice anything of that nature. Thanks for tuning in!
Are all the amps just Marshall.
Question to Shawn: I was thinking of getting a Marshall CODE100 combo amp. On the back of that amp, there's an 8ohm cabinet connection OUT jack. The manual says "26. Sounds like a tube amp, seems like the speaker will sound better when turning the master volume high
I'm thinking about about getting the code 100. Would you say it's loud enough for gigging? Great post btw. Also, what If don't want to use the supplied on board effects, I have a bank of pedals at my disposal. Would love to hear a Gibson Flying V through one of these.
It's definitely loud enough for gigging out! Thanks so much for tuning in!
Could the 100 watt version of this keep up with a fender hot rod deluxe if you ran them both in stereo?
Yes I would think so.
Big difference with a tube amp?
I think for the price point this is a great amp! Hard to argue from that standpoint.
I, unfortunately, don't have any experience with the Fender Champion 100. When I think punk rock/metal I do tend to think Marshall.;) Thanks so much for watching Peter!
I own a code 50 and used to have a champion 100. For punk and metal I'd say hands down, go Marshall! Champion is best for blues/country/classic rock
Code 25 for the bedroom.
This amp sounds killer, it gets such a bad wrap, I’m confused.
Don't listen to others, listen to your ears. :) People tend to give these modelling amps a hard time, but when I use my tube amp at home it just keeps annoying me, can't get THAT tone. Then I go back to either my Bias FX rig or my modelling amp, and you always know what you'll be getting. :)
Awesome 🐔 chicken picking
Could you get a solid metal tone?
In my opinion yes.
How did you record the video of your guitar/amp as it sounds very clean!!
How well does it hold the tones at higher volumes if you don't mind me asking? I've been looking into a low wattage all tube setup for playing gigs in a cover band where we play everything from old-school country to some modern hard rock and I'd like to hear some input from somebody who's played through these amps. this isn't tube or valve right?! please someone guide me
eroticblack yeah, its a digital amp, but it sounds nice! I have a Code 25W, Im happy with the sounds that this amp can simulate
Leo Massabki thanks a lot man. I'd check one, the next time I find one in my local store!
I also own the 25w version and it sounds very good. I dare to say it’s one of the best simulation based “cheap” amps on the market. The best part of it is that you get to know and virtually play all kind of Marshall amps with all marshall cabinets. It is also very versatile! Can the thumbs downers, tell me why they voted this way? I want to get one and was hoping to get all input before I buy.
I have one and love it. A bit tricky at first getting around on it but take your time and learn the amp. You won’t be disappointed.
They totally suck the speakers are garbage and U get hiss and fizz all over the place
Is this the right amp for metal like Killswitch Engaged or Megadeth?
After many months searching for a decent rig under 600 . I finally narrowed it down to boss katana 100watthead and Marshall 2x12. But found this combo and it's amazing
Noticed that the volume and master volume were all the way up. Why?
I programmed all of the presets pre-demo. The position of all of the potentiometers on top are not at all a representation of the actual preset.
SUENA BIEN PERO TIENE UN SILENCIO CUANDO SE PASA DE PRESET Y ES MOLESTO
anyone gonna tell him or do i ...........
“anyone gonna tell him or do i...”
Is anyone going to tell him, or should I?
