I definitely wouldn't be surprised if that did happen. The memory of Lucy Gray likely haunted Snow until his end so maybe everything he did was inspired by Lucy Gray.
Or maybe Snow made Academy seniors/ University first years come up with " theoretical" ideas for the Quarter Quells ,just like Dr.Gaul did with Snow 's father and Highbottom. The ideas he liked he imposed, just like Dr.Gaul, his new mentor.
I always thought the quarter quell parts were written when the hunger games were thought up. Also I’m pretty sure it’s mentioned somewhere that Plutarch changed what the 3rd quarter quell idea was to be, not Snow 🤔
I would actually like to see a novel that covers Haymitch as a mentor. How he gets invested in these kids and trying to keep them alive just to see them murdered year and year. How it slowly destroys him until he gets to Katniss and has hope again. And how he got involved with 13 and the rebellion.
I've recently read a fanfic that showed how those years mentoring affected Haymitch, and damn well too. It kinda scratched the itch to know about him more, although I would love to hear something from the author..
I would love a book on Mags but entirely after her Games. Being the first victor with a victory tour, the first one to be made a spectacle after the Games. How out of touch she might have felt with other people in her district after that, how it felt to have to mentor people her own age into becoming a victor and in how to navigate the Capitol. Surely she was at least in some sense aware of Lucy Gray and she saw how the Capitol did so much to hide and destroy her memory.
@@CJs_Galaxy She would be indeed. I think it would also be very interesting to get a perspective angle of the winner of the first quarter quell. How do they feel after returning to a district that essentially voted for them to die? I don’t think we actually know who won the quarter quell, so maybe it would be interesting for it to be someone from a career district that became entirely disillusioned with The Capitol (like Cato did in the movie when on top of the Cornucopia) during the Games.
Seeing the POV of a career district in that kind of story would be so cool but I would also love to see the victor being someone who was voted in with the expectation of them dying but they defied all odds
@@CJs_Galaxy that would indeed also be very interesting. I think it would also be very interesting to have a side chapter on how Haymitch felt when he was essentially reaped for both quarter quells. What are the odds of that happening in the grand scheme of things? His initial reaction to his name being called by Effie and how he felt when Peeta basically offered to die for him (and Katniss)?
I really want an anthology sereis of The Hunger games where each sereis is a different hunger games, mabye 4 hour long episodes per season so it doesnt drag on too long. The world building of the franchise is so good that it would be the perfect format.
I know! So many people in the fandom want something like that too but I it looks like Suzanne Collins knows when to stop writing for her message of 'bread and circuses' to stay the same.
The 1st quarter quill was the districts voted on who to send in to remind the districts that it was their choice to rebel against the capitol and now it would be their choice on who will be reaped. The second quarter quill was there would be double the amount of tributes reaped to remind districts that even in large numbers they cannot overpower the capitol. And then we already know the third was the tributes would be reaped from the existing pool of victors to remind districts that even the strongest and most powerful among them are no match for the strength of the capitol
I didn't even think about that. Vote for me! Cato! I will be your next Victor! And then everyone votes for the strong kids because they all think they'll get their kids back...
@@asanaquarian1302i think it may have already started since we know Mags was the first victor to go on a victory tour and eventually district 4 would go on to be a career district. maybe those districts already realized they have a better chance at getting sponsors and a better chance at survival if they trained since it was 14 years later when the quarter quell happened.
I also wanna know how long did the Capitol rule over the 13 districts before they rebelled the first time that is always referred as the Dark Days. Or how the Capitol came to be and the 13 districts and were subjugated...
Yes! Since The Hunger Games lasted for 75 years, it would be so interesting to know how long it took the 13 districts to gather resources to rebel. Was it longer than 75 years? Less time? How bad was the oppression in the first place?
A Tigris origin story would be intriguing - starting from where The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes left off, to how Tigris & Coriolanus eventually drifted apart, ending with Tigris helping Katniss & the rebels & how her life is after her cousin’s death.
Every single quarter quell was planned out when the games were created. There is a deleted scene in one of the films where Plutarch goes to a room and opens a box (Third box down which is the 75th games or 3rd quarter quell) and on this wall which contains all these boxes , there are HUNDREDS of boxes, which means that there are hundreds of quarter quells planned out already meaning thousands of years of hunger games were intended to happen. So the 1st quarter quell wasn’t made by snow. It was created (like all the rest of them) when they created the hunger games themselfs .
I loved so much about TBOSAS that there were really only two familiar characters from the original novel. It gave ample space for huge world building. And to be quite honest, I’m tired of stories about the games themselves - they’re brutal and awful. I like your idea about the Dark Days or what oppression led to the first uprising. I think a neat idea for a novel would be the story of the Covey. Where they came from and traveled before the Dark Days, how they ended up in 12, and how they passed along their songs to Katniss via generations. I think that would give really good context to what Panem was like pre Hunger Games and would give us a couple familiar characters. They could travel from district to district and it could really show how they banded together to attempt to overthrow the Capitol. Whatever Suzanne Collins ends up writing about, I just hope she gives us more lore!
I like the idea of following the Covey during the Dark Days. That would definitely give Suzanne Collins a way to world build with some level of familiarity for audiences
I could see Dr. Gaul retiring at say immediately after the 24th games and then Snow takes over and in memory of Gaul establishes the quarter quell. Just my theory.
(dyslexic)AHHH I NEED YOU TO WATCH THE FAN WRITTEN GAMES BY THIS GUY ON YT!!!! ITS SO FINGER LICKING GOOD!!! I very much agree on the dark days! Like ending it with the peace treaty and 13s betrayl. Maybe about a kid who only knew 13 and when, as kids do get a little to curious... u know.. maybe (pretty please) someone who did in fact run away from the districs spotts them.. and we get a split BAM we get taken with on the persons running away story! I (sadly) just dont see us getting more on some of the bigger charecters in the tales already told. I think it has to, she would give us another spiderwebb being added to conect what we already know! Please tell me what you think if you do look it up!!!
Is the guy actually named 'so finger licking good' or are you commenting on how good the fan written games is? I might make a video or live stream my reaction to some Hunger Games fan films at some point since I haven't really watched any of them before. Also I like your suggestion on the Dark Days I think that'd be a good novel to read from Suzanne Collins! :)
It's actually a potential trilogy focusing on Snow's rise to power since 'TBOSAS' tells the story of the teenage Snow's early rise to becoming a dominant figure in the Capitol and later, Panem. I think the next two books should detail his ascent into Capitol's politics, culminating in his presidency. My ideas are: In the sequel, young, middle-aged Coriolanus Snow navigates the intricate political landscape of Panem, cementing his authority while overseeing the ruthless events of The First Quarter Quell (25th Hunger Games). It also introduced a second main character (the tribute, later victor of the game). His ascent as a formidable politician sets the stage for his political dominance. In the second book, him being an aspiring gamemaker can also be a good idea. In the third and final installment, the story followed a senior-aged Snow with his neverending drama over his election as president candidate then winning the presidency, while orchestrating the harrowing The First Quarter Quell (50th Hunger Games). It entwined with the experiences of you know it, THE Haymitch Abernathy. It delves into Snow's unwavering grip on power, depicting the depths of his dictatorship in the face of resistance and rebellion.
Finnick mentions that Snow was "such a young man when he rose to power, such a clever one to keep it", so I think he probably became president much earlier than in the 50th Games. I know "rise to power" doesn't necessarily mean presidency, but it just seems to imply that his use of poison made his political climb a lot faster. I wouldn't be surprised if he was already reaching the presidency by the 25th Hunger Games tbh.
think it would be cool to see maybe other countries trying to stop panem in before the 25th causing Snow to create the Quarter quell. Maybe the whole world was destroyed and a unified country (possibly in europe or asia) have formed from wars and try to create peace. So the whole of the 25th hunger games is a show not only to panem but to the other nations to present panem’s power. This could also be the first time they make a full island for the games as we know the 10th was just in the capitol so this game is bigger than ever before Also think it would be cool with this followed Maggs as a mentor seeing what’s happening with Snow. Maybe Mags show that mags loses her voice due to trauma by getting to close to what’s going on during 25th
That seems like a good prediction that we may see a book about the Quarter Quell in some distant future. But I also would like to see a prequel to the prequel :) Thanks a lot for the video!
A prequel to the prequel on the Dark Days and maybe FINALLY we can see what happened to the rest of the world because surely there's someone else out there waiting for Panem. After all, if they covered up the existence of District 13 whose to say they didn't cover up the existence of other countries?
One thing that's important for understanding propaganda in the Hunger Games universe is the notion that essentially every generation is being fed that propaganda. By the time the 25th hunger games came up everyone who had survived the Dark Days was an adult. In order to successfully indoctrinate the young generation and instil the scope the Capitol's power and political message, they had to change up the format. When it comes to the 25th games, we are told that the districts had to vote the tributes. That sends the message that you can't really rely on or trust anyone around you - a message that the capitol would very much need to establish in the young generation's minds in order to makw sure they won't be united enough to start thinking of a rebelion. That is the 25th games' significans. The same point can be made about the 50th games. A new generation was being brought up and in order to establish the horrors of the Dark Days as the future that awaits any rebelion they change the format again - with that year the tributes being twice of those of regular games. This sends a different message. Even though the districs are larger in quantity of people the Capitol can erradicate any number of them they please. In that year's case it being 47. Quarter quells were designed not to spruce up the games for entertainment value - that's an afterthought. The reason quarters quells are held is so that every generation of district kids and teens learns that at the end of the day, the capitol is at the top and they are their mercy.
so, I read HG novels at 12 - got semi invested for the love plotline, but I have done rereading at 21 now, starting with the Ballad and I can't shake this feeling that when Snow saw Katniss and Peeta he saw Lucy Gray and himself, he was sure himself that Katniss would try to kill Peeta, because he lived through it 64 years ago, so when Katniss doesn't and wants to save Peeta by barries stunt and later seeing The Mockingjay pin - Snow solidifies him identifying Katniss as Lucy (just like so many theories on whever Katniss and Lucy Gray are related) and the cognitive dissonance accours in him - "why Katniss/Lucy didn't kill him in the arena?" to "why Lucy didn't kill him, but tried to kill me?" So when Snow says to Katniss "Don't convince them, convince me..." - Snow doesn't mean our Katniss and Peeta, he means the Lucy Gray reincarnation he sees Katniss as and himself he sees in Peeta. He dares Katniss to convince him, Lucy Gray didn't try to kill him in the woods with the snake almost 65 years ago. Which I am not sure what answer is to that
now that it's been a day since I wrote it down, another thing of my chest Though Snow might have seen his young self in Peeta, Peeta wasn't like Snow's younger self - just like Katniss said to him in Mockingjay; "because you were kind" - something Snow didn't have in himself. If not Peeta is more like Prim's cat Buttercup - by which I mean, both almost drowned (one in the arena, cat by Katniss' hands), generally survived so many attempts of death claming them, lost their family, and came back home to D12 though not uninjured (Peeta - lost his leg, while Buttercup his ear) and both would pull on a text at Katniss "you can try to kill me, but I will still stick with you" - because my heart hurts at no mention of Buttercup in the epilogue in either novels nor books.
While I certainly admire the idea of Snow being behind the first Quarter Quell given what we've learned from the prequel, I seem to remember from the books that the idea was that the Quarter Quells had been penned by the Hunger Games designers from the very beginning as they'd been planning on centuries of Games. Unless of course Snow was able to do what he almost certainly did 50 years later and change the first Quell through his own power and corruption. Do correct me if I'm misremembering things from the book though.
You're right There's a deleted scene in catching fire where Plutarch goes to pull out the card for the quarter quell and swaps it for another There was a vault with lots of quarter quell ideas meaning that Dr. Gaul planned for the hunger games to continue for a long time Would not be surprised if she brainstormed most of those ideas
I think what the prequel is trying to tell us is how Katniss is an unreliable narrator. She a victim of the propaganda Snow implemented so he could keep his position of power. It's likely he told the districts the Quarter Quell was planned when it was just made up when the districts needed to be kept in line
@@CJs_GalaxyI 100% agree with that, especially because in the prequel is stated that the Games themselves are at risk of ending, so it would make sense that Capitol Government would use propaganda to make the districts believe the QQ we’re planned all along but in fact that wasn’t the case.
This is how fandoms react when authors create lores so large that the possibilities for storytelling are countless. In the case of Hunger Games, give us the FIRST Hunger Games because the games are the hook of the story. While admittedly 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes' is a good story, I think it's an awkward choice for storytelling as far as the chronology is concerned. Going far back but NOT going back to the beginning.
Whilst if overdone could be bad, possibilities for stories in The Hunger Games franchise has an advantage to other franchises since there is so much world building they have less of a chance of writing a story that doesn't make sense. I also like how you brought up TBOSAS being an 'awkward choice' it's not something I would've thought of simply because I'm addicted to The Hunger Games I just don't notice. But I think since we haven't gone all the way back to the beginning for the prequel it gives Suzanne Collins even more of a chance to delve into the lore.
The issue is your thinking of it that its the hunger games themselves that is the focus. In the end this began with snow and ending with snow convincing katniss to kill coin. It was the story of snow and snows hunger games and we now have his origin and his end.
@@Ghostlogicz Fair enough. Truthfully though I've never thought of Snow as much of a fascinating villain in fiction. I prefer dark lords like Sauron, Palpatine or Brona. In the case of The Hunger Games franchise, it's the society collectively rather than individual characters that fascinate me.
Love the video, I do have to say, as much as I’d like to see a novel about the dark days, I think leaving it ambiguous makes it more interesting. It’s kinda like Star Wars, in the sense that, because something’s aren’t explained. They are more interesting.
If we get a sequel focused on the quarter quell, I think it presents a really interesting opportunity to have a completely different type of games as we don’t know the winner. I presume that a sequel would be based more on snow and politics as S&S was, with the games not being the main focus, HOWEVER we haven’t really had a story where we don’t know who the victor of the games will be (although a great job is done to keep things tense, we know deep down that Katniss/Lucy are going to end up as victors). The 25th games would be able to give equal opportunity to each of the tributes (or a majority of them), leaving the audience to form their own favourites of the tributes rather than rallying everyone behind the protagonist. I think this is particularly interesting as, not only has it not been done before, but it further likens us as the audience to the capital as we view the games as sport more when we get to form our own opinions on the tributes if they are presented equally, highlighting how we aren’t dissimilar to the members of the capital and that snows ideas from S&S would make sense in practice. I also think this would make the most sense with the story as Snow would be unlikely to want to get involved with with tributes personally after what happened with Lucy
Yes! It would provide more time for readers to understand more of the tributes too - something songbirds and snakes began to do but didn't focus too much on - which would allow us to see more of how cruel to Capitol was to the child tributes. Maybe even show us more of other districts and the tributes' families
Here's what would have been the third quarter quell if Katniss deleted Peeta in 74 , conscripted tributes only or the family and friends of Victors are reaped as tributes.
I think Snow might have become president around the 25th hunger games (maybe afterwards) He would be 33 by then, Dr. Gaul would be way too old to continue the hunger games Finnick did say that Snow was young when he came to power
I believe it was Finnick in Mockingjay part 1 (maybe part 2) that said he became president at 23 and revels how he did it which was poison. After Snow bombed 13.
@@meganruby723he never said how young snow was but he was young, we also have to consider the relativity of young in the political world: He could have been in his 30's or 40's.
I've heard you need to be at least 30 to be in politics/become President in America so assuming that rule wasn't messed with too much that would make sense. Not to mention he likely took over when President Ravinstill died and by the 25th Hunger Games he would've been fairly old
@taliavelazquez358 Because Finnick pointed out 'young' I would assume it would have to be young enough for it to be significant for those watching him rise to power. So I think that'd have to make him around a solid 30 for him to be notably young
@meganruby723 23!? In my next rewatch and reread I'm going to pay extra attention to see. That'd be super young for any career if that's what Finnick said
It is my personal headcannon that Beetee won these games. I know he is described as being in his 50's but Katniss can easily get someone's age wrong. Beetee was a victor and his standard of living increased the possibility of him looking young for his age.
Wow that's not a theory I've heard before. Assuming Beetee was about 16 at the time of his games he would be about 66 at the time of the 75th Hunger Games. Still around the age Katniss thought he was and not so old he was a liability like Mags. Cool theory with pretty solid evidence :)
No, in the book Katniss clearly says that the victor of the 25th Game was dead and she briefly wonders how it felt like to be chosen for the Games by your own neighbors. Effie sent her only the tapes of the Games where the victors were still alive, nr 25 was not among them.
@@CS-bu7lo True... I can't remember if Katniss said they were dead since they probably wouldn't be too old at the time of the 75th Hunger Games but Katniss and Peeta likely watched or at least skimmed over the first Quarter Quell. (Although I do think Peeta was the only one in the books who watched EVERY game he could get his hands on, not so much Katniss so maybe she doesn't know?)
@@CJs_Galaxy the tapes Effie gives them are the only ones they have. That's why they decide to watch Haymitch's Games because it's the only Quarter Quell they have access to.
@@CS-bu7loPeeta speculates the victor must be dead but immediately follows up with Effie only gave him tapes of people they might face (pg 195). Not really confirmed, but I wouldn't doubt it.
I would just love a novel from Snow's perspective skimming over his rise to power, all of the games as he changed them, what really happened to Lucy Grey (was she Coin, or possibly Coin's mother), what happened between him and Tigress, and all the way up to the end of the war and his death. Hearing it from his side would fill in so many gaps!!
I think it would be a good idea to have a collection of stories in one book. One of those can be about the 25th games and it doesn't have to be a novel's worth for that one story, but it could still have an impact. Like we could also hear about many of the other tributes. The aftermath of The Hunger Games and how their new society is going. Stories from the children of tributes. There's definitely a lot of ways that could go and still give good story information.
I was thinking similar thing like a diary style collection of short stories from one tribute from each district or even a select few, it would be an easy and interesting way to add more lore and develop the universe further, plus it would be different enough from her other Hunger Games stories that it would definitely bring more attention to the series and more people interested
I think we'll get another one probably 2 in the Snow prequel. The 25 quarter quell and how they made up the hundreds of boxes so the games would go on for a thousand years; as long as Panam's golden age would "last" and the horrors of making the districts chose which children were going to die. The districts who bet on their strongest to try and win prizes and the ones who chose revenge and hatred to kill kids of people in their district that they hate and all the back stabbing and cheating and political fallout of forcing the districts to actively participate more than just have it happen to them. It's brutal and would make a great book, and seeing Snow get in there and use it to promote himself would be a great way to see how he fully turns into the Darth Vader he's becoming. The third book would be the 50th and show everything from Snow finally becoming president to giving us more of the back story of how Tigress ended up a tiger, and Hamitche's story and Katniss's nameless mother's love story, how the poor miner won her over in her grief and the utterly obnoxious woman who ended up marrying the baker. It would fill in all the rest of the story nicely. If she wanted to write more than that, she could go back further into the past and tell us what the hell happened to the US, what is going on in the rest of the unheard from world, IS there any other peoples of countries left anywhere? It could be another trilogy.
Whilst I doubt a full trilogy will be written, I think it would be interesting to see how the district people tear each other down when voting people into the 25th Hunger Games. It would explain why the Capitol could stay in power for so long if the districts were so unstable after the first Quarter Quell.
I love the idea of the bread crumbs with the 2nd Victor of district 12 but I think it’s referring to Lucy Gray since they said in the book of songbirds and snakes that they deleted every trace of the 10th hunger games besides that 12 won
My pet theory about the First Quarter Quell is that a lot of districts sent in the children of (real or imagined) collaborators. Think families like the Plinths
Since we know absolutely nothing about the 25th games this is probably really plausible. Haymitch said there were no living survivors when Katniss & Peeta watched the tapes… they only had the games to look at that people were alive from & therefore only had access to Haymitch’s QQ. Also, Mags was 80, so I believe this would have put her as being alive during 10th games. She would have been 5 when the games started & able to be reaped from the 7th games & likely have memory of all of them. She would have been 15 during the 10th games & no doubt remembered everything that happened. I would love to see from her perspective if she was in the next games, directly after that & how it would have been the first time she mentored someone. I imagine that would have been one of the first suggestions snow made - to have the district winners mentor their own people. It kinda makes me wonder if that was something Mags did because she seems significant in the books to so many of the district 4 kids.
Mags is definitely considered by the fandom to have played a large role in making District 4 into a career district. I'd personally like to see who she became by the 25th Hunger Games, likely before she became mute
@@CJs_Galaxy yesssss!!! I feel like there’s so much there!!! I also wonder when they started the victors villages & the like! Like I wonder if that was a way to keep tabs on Mags & ensure she was alive to watch kid after kid from her district die at the hands of the capitol.
@@storytimewithyaz At the end of TBOSAS book Snow/the Capitol implements the idea of the victors village but the idea of the victors village also being used to keep tabs on Mags is so intriguing
That's an interesting idea. We definitely didn't see anyone volunteering in the 10th Hunger Games (that's not to say they didn't we just didn't see it). So maybe after the 25th Hunger Games people realised they should be sending in their strongest kids in hopes they'll win.
@@CJs_Galaxywouldn't have made sense to, Snow adds the Victor's village and the prize after the 10th, I'm guessing someone from 1 or 2 won and after that everyone wanted their wealth so volunteered and trained.
I would love a novel that explores similar themes in BOSAS but from the POV of Coin. It's been a while since I read or watched the original trilogy so this could already be answered, but what was life like in district 13 all of those years? I think that BOSAS emphasizes Snow's view that the districts need to be controlled and that they are less-than, and I think that a novel from the perspective of Coin could show the other side of this; that the capitol needs to be controlled and that they are holier-than-thou.
That would be cool to see. We know that District 13 was weakened after the Dark Days and then again by a virus outbreak. But we don't know so much about their political system and the view points of their civilians outside of how they're raised as soldiers from birth
I have a strong theory that the next book could very well be focused on the 15th Hunger Games (when Snow became president) or the 25th Hunger Games (1st Quarter Quell)
Oooh the 15th Hunger Games? I don't think we know for sure what year Snow rose to power is there something in the books or movies that made you think that? I must know! :)
When it comes to selecting tributes, there would probably be only two ways to go about it. Either the people most likely to win in the eyes of the public would be voted in. These tributes may have even expressed desire to enter. Or it would just be a way to get rid of people who are viewed as problematic by leadership or society. Much like how Lucy Gray was intentionally selected by the Mayor and his daughter. I imagine they would probably want rid of poor kids with “behavioural issues”, or those who come from a disgraced family (sins of the father type thing). It would be a good way to get revenge on a political or business rival too.
Just read a fanfiction that retells all the past Hunger Games from 1 to 75 (this came out before Songbirds and Snakes, just a note) and it turns the 25th Hunger Games into an absolute bloodbath since several districts used the voting as a way to get rid of their degenerates
@@CJs_Galaxy but it'd be sad for the Districts to have to vote for the tributes but then again the whole concept of the Hunger games is sad but still love the movies
One thing I've wondered about. Crassus Snow died during the Dark Days, and he was a general. Why was he a drinking buddy of Casca Highbottom, and how did he happen to steal Highbottom's idea? Was he in the University at the time? But he was a general during the Dark Days. The timing is not right. Good video!
Yeah I did find that to be a bit weird... unless Coriolanus Snow was born when his parents were quite young so there isn't a huge amount of time between the invention and the actual games starting themselves? So that would mean they stored the assignment for later use. That would be my best guess but let me know how you would explain the plot hole :)
In the books, it is said that Snow 's father had an excelent mind for military strategy, a commanding presence, lots of money, class, reputation and a lot of charm and was extremely handsome and that's why he advanced so quickly in the military. He was the "perfect" face of the Army in Capitol's eyes. His son took after him and became an officer a mere month after he was made a Peacekeeper. And in war times, field promotion happen fast. Due to his qualities, he was able to wed a beautiful kind Capitol lady, have Corio young and expect another child when he was killed in action.
@@CS-bu7lo You're in my comments practically with quotes memorised, I'm living for it. In the context of the original comment, Highbottom came up with the idea when he and Crassus were in University so it looks like they likely stored the information for later use. OR Crassus decided when he was super powerful the bring Highbottom's idea out of the archives and re-present it to Dr. Gaul
The Dark Days only lasted for about three years from when Snow is 5 to when he’s 8. It’s entirely possible Crassus was studying Military History or something like that at University before Snow was even born and then when the Rebellion started he was called away on military duty where he died in the line of duty
@@gennybaratta2460 But I believe it's suggested that Casca Highbottom came up with the idea of the Hunger Games as a way to punish the districts... after the Dark Days. So why was Crassus in the university after the Dark Days, if he died during the Dark Days?
I’d Also be curious about how Panem came to be, and what happened to the US and where are all the other people? But I’d love a novel about the 25th games and the relationship between snow and Tigress
also i feel like the 25th hunger games could then show Snow rising in power in the Capitol as well as the conflict in the districts not just one or the other which would be sooo good
OMG yk what would be a good sequel? To explore what happened to other continents, like what have they done- what's their history. With the Panem's technical advancements, they could start visiting other countries now. Like come on now, tell me a continent like Europe wouldn't have developed something similar or more massive than what we had till now?
I really like this theory. If it’s true, it’s poetic justice served to Snow because it took the 3rd Quarter Quell to really propel the revolution against his governance. His literal creation is the very thing that put him down.
My Headcannon is that in a lot of districts (not 12 where they would just be left to starve) some people with physical disabilities get away with easier jobs than most of the population. People would be jealous and vote for them just to have the capitol milk the crap out of it and constantly throwing shade at the districts for being cruel for doing it. The quell part would have been very successful for preventing uprisings for a while if the districts started to believe maybe they were crap for it.
In the movie Plutarch pulls the paper with the plan for the 3rd Quarter Quell from a door in like a wall of like 100 little safes and then he burns that paper and replaces it with one saying to reap from the current victors.
I've had some MAD 25th hunger games brainrot.. Like the districts from 1,2 & 4 campaining some future tributes being ganged up on by peers stuff like that. I think some MAD grudges were held by the winner if they weren't from 1, 2 or 4
for me its not been a question of why rather how. It seems only natrual almost, when year after year all you ever know is the games and all it keeps growing. Feeding the monster.. a new normal.. hungry for more. curiosity is human nature. Not good, not evil.. just as a kid testing where the boundres are..
thats like saying you don’t need an intercooler with your turbo like you can run one on your car but when you look at the longevity of the engine you’re just ruin it quicker so you don’t need new fuel injectors but after say 10k miles you will notice a difference if you don’t install them
When I was reading the prequel I was basing my expectations on what we were told by Katniss. She tells us in the original trilogy the Quarter Quell was created at the conception of the Hunger Games so I assumed eventually we'd hear Casca Highbottom mention them. But the prequel definitely changes that and it honestly makes more sense that way with the rest of the series
writing another book about another game for the sake of interest and entertainment will just be, meta wise, completely oppositional to the narrative criticism of the Hunger Games game itself. I feel as though Hunger Games readers should understand the criticisms of society and war that are made in the books, and importantly, observe where themselves land in this.
I totally agree and I love The Hunger Games for their criticisms of world/U.S. politics. Although, I do think IF we were to get more books it would make the most sense for us to either see the 25th Hunger Games or jump all the way back to the Dark Days (or even possibly before).
As much as I would like you to be right, I don't think it is going to happen. It is a well established franchise. It sounds more like a money grab and people will get tired of it. A TV series wouldn't be too bad though...
We could see how the he thinks up all the quarter quell themes and we might even find out what the 75th would actually have been if they do the 25th hunger games.
Yes! Was each Quarter Quell actually planned at the original conception of the Quarter Quell? Or was each year's twist written during the actual year the game itself would take place?
@@CJs_Galaxy I saw a deleted scene where someone threw the envelope away explaining the third quarter quell and replacing it….it seemed like they had them all planned as there was so many envelopes
@@coolwahl The deleted scene was likely Plutarch burning the cards, and Katniss notes in the books the card look yellowed with time but (because Katniss is an unreliable narrator) those things can always be faked... so who really knows...
Honestly i think they would save the 25th hunger games book for 2033, as that would be the 25th anniversary of when the 1st book came out. It sucks as its still a decade away but it is just to perfect not to do.
I might have an unpopular opinion here, but I honestly don't think we need a series of books that answer some of the big questions of the series. In fact, I think many of those big questions are exactly the point. Getting something like more sequels to TBOSAS or a 25th Hunger Games kinda makes the world less interesting and the themes less impactful. Understanding the exact way that Snow came to power or answering whether or not the Quells are planned out feels unimportant because the mystery of it leads to a greater enhancement of the story. The sheer vastness of the Capitol's propaganda and power to change perception is a HUGE part of why it feels terrifying and all-encompassing. The fact that people believe Snow would poison his political opponents is more impactful when you aren't sure one way or another if he actually did it (think about how terrified people have to be of him for this to be so widely accepted). I think it would be far more interesting to get short stories from the perspective of previous victors than anything that explains the system more in depth. Part of why these books are such a good critique of current systems and beliefs is that they focus the story to a single perspective within one system, not a factual explanation of the system itself, and what that does to people and communities. Long ramble, but long story short, I wouldn't want or expect a sequel to TBOSAS or a 25th Hunger Games book
I honestly don't think that's an unpopular opinion. As much as I would love another one or two novels I would be more than content with the ones we do have. I haven't heard anyone describe the mystery of the novels creating the Capitol as a dangerous power but now that you've said it I totally agree. Leaving some questions unanswered, in the same way Lucy Gray's fate is, is Suzanne Collins also telling us we don't need every one of the Hunger Games in a book (the 25th and the Dark Days would still be pretty cool though)
I think he came up with the strategy to get them out of the arena but he was the game maker for the third Quarter Quell and would have designed the arena
At the end of TBOSAS we don't know what happened to Lucy Gray. She just disappeared so she wouldn't be able to continue reaping the benefits of being a victor
Thanks for commenting! I'll definitely include them in my videos from now on. I use some infographics in my in-depth analysis video on the first Hunger Games movie (but I honestly could have used more).
I think Snow came up with the voting for tributes idea by remembering how Lucy grey ended up being reaped. Inspired at least.
@@CS-bu7lo That's so evil but so plausible
I always thought the quarter quell parts were written when the hunger games were thought up. Also I’m pretty sure it’s mentioned somewhere that Plutarch changed what the 3rd quarter quell idea was to be, not Snow 🤔
I would actually like to see a novel that covers Haymitch as a mentor. How he gets invested in these kids and trying to keep them alive just to see them murdered year and year. How it slowly destroys him until he gets to Katniss and has hope again. And how he got involved with 13 and the rebellion.
I am absolutely dying to know how long other victors were involved with the rebellion and District 13, especially Haymitch.
I've recently read a fanfic that showed how those years mentoring affected Haymitch, and damn well too. It kinda scratched the itch to know about him more, although I would love to hear something from the author..
@@sadbunny23Same. But that fanfic sounds like it’s in the same category as the Peeta POV fanfic
This is so interesting! It never clicked for me that it was the year directly after TBOSAS 😲
We know so little about Mags even though she was the first of the 'modern' Hunger Games. She would be a good narrator for the 25th Hunger Games
It would be good if it was animated you know like marvel what if style
@@jc-xw1sr okay but that's a good idea though
it would be nice but Suzanne writes for purpose not for story, so writing for every game would defeat her whole reason for writing the series.
Snow becoming President would be cool.
Yes! The Capitol always conveniently has their reasons as to why The Hunger Games exists
Imagine careers like Cato campaining to be elected into the Hunger Games...
I didn't even think about that.
Vote for me! Cato! I will be your next Victor!
And then everyone votes for the strong kids because they all think they'll get their kids back...
There’s no guarantee the careers were around by then
@@asanaquarian1302i think it may have already started since we know Mags was the first victor to go on a victory tour and eventually district 4 would go on to be a career district. maybe those districts already realized they have a better chance at getting sponsors and a better chance at survival if they trained since it was 14 years later when the quarter quell happened.
@@kaylagreer maybe this Games inspired districts to become careers.
Less time? How bad was the oppression in the first place?
im reading mockingjay rn and katniss said it took centuries for the capital to make the infrastructure of D13, could be hyperbolic though
A Tigris origin story would be intriguing - starting from where The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes left off, to how Tigris & Coriolanus eventually drifted apart, ending with Tigris helping Katniss & the rebels & how her life is after her cousin’s death.
very that 💛
A movie about the 50th hunger games would be interesting, I’d love to see Haymitch’s story.
Me too
Well I have to say your in luck lol
That's a pretty good theory. I could totally see that happening too
(dyslexic)AHHH I NEED YOU TO WATCH THE FAN WRITTEN GAMES BY THIS GUY ON YT!!!!
I think you should call Suzanne Collins up or maybe you should be writing the novels instead ;)
@@giddy111 If not presidency by the 25th Hunger Games, likely very close to it
think it would be cool to see maybe other countries trying to stop panem in before the 25th causing Snow to create the Quarter quell. Maybe the whole world was destroyed and a unified country (possibly in europe or asia) have formed from wars and try to create peace. So the whole of the 25th hunger games is a show not only to panem but to the other nations to present panem’s power. This could also be the first time they make a full island for the games as we know the 10th was just in the capitol so this game is bigger than ever before
Also think it would be cool with this followed Maggs as a mentor seeing what’s happening with Snow. Maybe Mags show that mags loses her voice due to trauma by getting to close to what’s going on during 25th
That seems like a good prediction that we may see a book about the Quarter Quell in some distant future. But I also would like to see a prequel to the prequel :)
Thanks a lot for the video!
The reason quarters quells are held is so that every generation of district kids and teens learns that at the end of the day, the capitol is at the top and they are their mercy.
so, I read HG novels at 12 - got semi invested for the love plotline, but I have done rereading at 21 now,
starting with the Ballad and I can't shake this feeling that when Snow saw Katniss and Peeta he saw Lucy Gray and himself, he was sure himself that Katniss would try to kill Peeta, because he lived through it 64 years ago, so when Katniss doesn't and wants to save Peeta by barries stunt and later seeing The Mockingjay pin - Snow solidifies him identifying Katniss as Lucy (just like so many theories on whever Katniss and Lucy Gray are related) and the cognitive dissonance accours in him - "why Katniss/Lucy didn't kill him in the arena?" to "why Lucy didn't kill him, but tried to kill me?"
So when Snow says to Katniss
"Don't convince them, convince me..." -
Snow doesn't mean our Katniss and Peeta, he means the Lucy Gray reincarnation he sees Katniss as and himself he sees in Peeta. He dares Katniss to convince him, Lucy Gray didn't try to kill him in the woods with the snake almost 65 years ago.
Which I am not sure what answer is to that
now that it's been a day since I wrote it down, another thing of my chest
Though Snow might have seen his young self in Peeta, Peeta wasn't like Snow's younger self
- just like Katniss said to him in Mockingjay; "because you were kind" - something Snow didn't have in himself.
If not Peeta is more like Prim's cat Buttercup - by which I mean, both almost drowned (one in the arena, cat by Katniss' hands), generally survived so many attempts of death claming them, lost their family, and came back home to D12 though not uninjured (Peeta - lost his leg, while Buttercup his ear)
and both would pull on a text at Katniss "you can try to kill me, but I will still stick with you" - because my heart hurts at no mention of Buttercup in the epilogue in either novels nor books.
You're right
There's a deleted scene in catching fire where Plutarch goes to pull out the card for the quarter quell and swaps it for another
There was a vault with lots of quarter quell ideas meaning that Dr. Gaul planned for the hunger games to continue for a long time
Would not be surprised if she brainstormed most of those ideas
I think what the prequel is trying to tell us is how Katniss is an unreliable narrator. She a victim of the propaganda Snow implemented so he could keep his position of power. It's likely he told the districts the Quarter Quell was planned when it was just made up when the districts needed to be kept in line
@edra2005 the thing that makes me question that idea is the fact nobody mentioned the Quarter Quell in the prequel, not even an early version of it
@@CJs_GalaxyI 100% agree with that, especially because in the prequel is stated that the Games themselves are at risk of ending, so it would make sense that Capitol Government would use propaganda to make the districts believe the QQ we’re planned all along but in fact that wasn’t the case.

I think Snow might have become president around the 25th hunger games (maybe afterwards)
He would be 33 by then, Dr. Gaul would be way too old to continue the hunger games
Finnick did say that Snow was young when he came to power
That'd be super young for any career if that's what Finnick said
I wish she would write a novel with multiple POVs. It would be cool to see how different characters describe the same events.
Definitely, a novel with Tigirs, Snow, maybe Dr. Gaul and some tributes mixed in there
It is my personal headcannon that Beetee won these games.
I also want the 25th Hunger Games book so badly. Have already written an outline for a fic it if Suzanne never publishes it though😅
I have faith she will publish something on the 25th Hunger Games but fanfiction will keep us alive until she does
I would just love a novel from Snow's perspective skimming over his rise to power, all of the games as he changed them, what really happened to Lucy Grey (was she Coin, or possibly Coin's mother), what happened between him and Tigress, and all the way up to the end of the war and his death.
That’d definitely give us a good change in narrators too!
@@emi-du1fqYes! I’d love to know more about the other districts
It's hard to write oppression when that's all the "lesser" Districts suffered. Could it get any worse than District 12, or Rue's District?
I love the idea of the bread crumbs with the 2nd Victor of district 12 but I think it’s referring to Lucy Gray since they said in the book of songbirds and snakes that they deleted every trace of the 10th hunger games besides that 12 won
Totally agree with the two time periods (25th HG & The Dark Times) we need more history and world building
My pet theory about the First Quarter Quell is that a lot of districts sent in the children of (real or imagined) collaborators. Think families like the Plinths
That's a pretty cool theory, I reckon there's a good chance that's true :)
I think the 25th one was people volunteered others
Great video! And I agree with you completely: let's all manifest a new Hungar Games novel
Together we'll make it happen
I wonder if volunteering for tribute started after the first Quarter Quell, from the districts that sent in their strongest tributes.
I feel like I remember seeing something a while ago that said he forced himself into power when he was 23. But that was like years ago@@CJs_Galaxy
I definitely agree with that. I'm sure that all would have descended the districts into madness too
Just read a fanfiction that retells all the past Hunger Games from 1 to 75 (this came out before Songbirds and Snakes, just a note) and it turns the 25th Hunger Games into an absolute bloodbath since several districts used the voting as a way to get rid of their degenerates
we're geting the 50th h
Yes! I'm super excited to see if the 25th Hunger Games is mentioned
I really do think the 25th games should be the next book. It just makes so much sense
Fingers crossed Suzanne sees us!
@@CJs_Galaxy same! I want a first quell book so badly!
I’d Also be curious about how Panem came to be, and what happened to the US and where are all the other people? But I’d love a novel about the 25th games and the relationship between snow and Tigress
Yes! I need to know where the rest of the world is or if anyone else is even left
I won’t lie I’ve always wanted to read or watch haymitches experiences in the quarter quell
Same! I wanna hear his innermost thoughts
also i feel like the 25th hunger games could then show Snow rising in power in the Capitol as well as the conflict in the districts not just one or the other which would be sooo good
It would definitely be so fun to read and watch! :)
OMG yk what would be a good sequel? To explore what happened to other continents, like what have they done- what's their history. With the Panem's technical advancements, they could start visiting other countries now. Like come on now, tell me a continent like Europe wouldn't have developed something similar or more massive than what we had till now?
I TOTALLY agree. I'm dying to know if other countries survived the rising sea levels that created Panem.
I really like this theory. If it’s true, it’s poetic justice served to Snow because it took the 3rd Quarter Quell to really propel the revolution against his governance. His literal creation is the very thing that put him down.
Yes! A full circle moment for the creator himself
The "there wont be a book about the 50th games" yeah i dont think that aged well did it? Lol
I know my comment is late but hey, better late then never
I had no idea that Suzanne Collins had something brewing
@@CJs_Galaxy she wanted to surprise everyone that's all
I love how you're like "Let's all go bang on Suzanne Collins door and ask her to make another novel"
Strength in numbers
Off topic but your nails are so pretty 🫶🏼
Thank you! They're green with white and gold dots to match TBOSAS colour theme
Oooh yes, and we do get a lot of disability representation in the books (and now prequel movie) so it would be interesting to delve more into that.
In the movie Plutarch pulls the paper with the plan for the 3rd Quarter Quell from a door in like a wall of like 100 little safes and then he burns that paper and replaces it with one saying to reap from the current victors.
Yes! At first I thought that meant they created the Quarter Quell at the conception of the Hunger Games but TBOSAS complicates that theory a bit
I've had some MAD 25th hunger games brainrot.. Like the districts from 1,2 & 4 campaining some future tributes being ganged up on by peers stuff like that. I think some MAD grudges were held by the winner if they weren't from 1, 2 or 4
I LOVE that idea. There definitely were a lot of grudges after the first Quarter Quell
for me its not been a question of why rather how.
It seems only natrual almost, when year after year all you ever know is the games and all it keeps growing. Feeding the monster.. a new normal.. hungry for more.
curiosity is human nature. Not good, not evil.. just as a kid testing where the boundres are..
thats like saying you don’t need an intercooler with your turbo like you can run one on your car but when you look at the longevity of the engine you’re just ruin it quicker so you don’t need new fuel injectors but after say 10k miles you will notice a difference if you don’t install them
Considering the BOSAS happens fifteen years before the the first Quarter Quell, it would have surprised me more if they HAD mentioned it.
I totally agree and I love The Hunger Games for their criticisms of world/U.S. politics. Although, I do think IF we were to get more books it would make the most sense for us to either see the 25th Hunger Games or jump all the way back to the Dark Days (or even possibly before).
imagine in 2033, on the 25th anniversary of the first hunger games book, this book comes out lol
2033 seems so far in the distance, it's making me feel old just thinking about it
As much as I would like you to be right, I don't think it is going to happen. It is a well established franchise. It sounds more like a money grab and people will get tired of it. A TV series wouldn't be too bad though...
I want all the quarter queel to be a movie and even the 4th quarter quell could be as possible
Well hopefully Suzanne Collins writes the books for them to be able to make the movies 😆
There won't be a 4th quelarter quell. The Games ended after the revolution which starts with the 3rd quarter quell or 75th Hunger games
Well made video. keep it up! :)
Thank you! :)
We need a tv series .
We need novellas too to inspire the tv series
I sincerely hope we do get another novel!
Fingers crossed!
They can do a tv show where each episode is a game
It might take away from Suzanne Collins' message but I think it'd be interesting if they did create a tv show
I would love a novel over Haymitch and his games
Have you watched the fan made short film on Haymitch's games? That's probably as much as we'll get but fan made stories are so good in this fandom
Honestly i think they would save the 25th hunger games book for 2033, as that would be the 25th anniversary of when the 1st book came out. It sucks as its still a decade away but it is just to perfect not to do.
That'd honestly be so fun for the anniversary
Can we just ask for a world book? I want a world book.
We can ask for a world book. It can be designed like a history book kids would use for school
@@CJs_Galaxy ooh that would be so interesting because it would be loaded with Capitol propaganda, presumably.
Plutarke or however you spell it actually came up with the quarter so get to katniss and the people apart of the rebellion…..
I think he came up with the strategy to get them out of the arena but he was the game maker for the third Quarter Quell and would have designed the arena
They will make a hayMitch movie so it will be a long time from then 😢
Why was not Lucy grey in the 25th hunger games? She was a victor
At the end of TBOSAS we don't know what happened to Lucy Gray. She just disappeared so she wouldn't be able to continue reaping the benefits of being a victor
I wish there was some infographics
Thanks for commenting! I'll definitely include them in my videos from now on. I use some infographics in my in-depth analysis video on the first Hunger Games movie (but I honestly could have used more).
