My buddy started his logging business with my Remington ( box store ) chainsaw my brother bought me as a gift 7 years ago or so. That saw has seen a ton of trees, logs and firewood. Now my buddy has moved on to his loved Huskivarna( spelling ) and logs everyday. He now also has a nice mid sized Forwarder that he is using. Makes me proud that he started all of that with a Remington saw with an 18 inch blade. Who cares what you use or what you have? Just as long as you're following your dream and your heart, nothing else matters. Peace brother. And try to close those scales once in a while. Make truck drivers like me wince. Lol
Totally understand your reasoning and agree totally. Lost my Dad to cancer this past March ….he had a long full life….95 years old. Yes, I’m old too 👴🏻😏 I too enjoy firewood, mostly for my own use and a few close friends. Still have my first saw Stihl MS 260……also enjoy my MS 362 and recently my favorite of all saws…..the MS 500i. You chose the State Police, I chose the US Army for a career. Retired 1SG who truly thinks it’s important to serve this great Country. Enjoyed your thoughts and reasons and background ! Thanks for the tour of your passion! 🪵👍👏😎🇺🇸 PS: thanks for the firearms transport advice you gave me a few weeks ago……gave me peace of mind going through MD on my trip 👍😎
Brad ,sorry about your dad, I can understand exactly how your feeling . I lost my dad in 2008 and miss him dearly. It's always a good thing to stay active. Your reasons for doing firewood are nobile. Keep active and enjoy your toys . In my yard I collect wood each season from tree service work. They are a fantastic source of raw materials.
Brad I know this is an old video but it came up on my RUclips feed today . I’m sorry to hear about your dad . I don’t think we never can be prepared for that to happen . You gave me chuckle when you said you watch RUclips , discovery & history channels. That’s exactly what I have done over the last year or so . I even called the cable company to see if I can only get discovery & history so I dont have to pay for the rest of the junk channels but that is not an option for them . Now I have to find a way to cut the cable cord and still have the ability to see what we want to see. I’m getting into firewood because my dad burns wood & I want to process his wood to keep the work load off of him . I currently burn coal because I’m gone long hours for work & coal will keep burning an easy 16 hours without adding any . I am going to switch to wood when I retire and can be home to keep it going . You are right about wood = work , I enjoy it but I do have some equipment to make it easier . Take care & keep up the videos !
Thanks Dave. Appreciate you watching and for the kind words. I cut my cable and watch history channel on my Roku TV. You can pick which channels you want and only pay for those.
Hello Brad, new subscriber here. 1st off sorry to hear about your father, I lost mine when I was 20, now I'm 45 now and he is till thought of daily. I also want to thank you for your services and be safe out there on the roads. I have been playing "catch up" on your videos and loved the history on the furnace video. Look forward to the videos of the future. God bless to you and your family!
Thanks so much Jim and welcome to the channel. I’m glad your enjoying it. My fathers passing changed my whole outlook on life as I’m sure you understand. I appreciate the kind words and support. Stay in touch
A little late to this party but man, what a selfless, insightful video. There definitely are a lot of fantastic people in this RUclips firewood community. Just getting started in our wood yard with my 19 year old son. Who knows, maybe someday we'll become members ourselves. Thanks for the inspiration...🤩 Oh yeah, stay safe out there. There are probably a LOT more people watching your six than you might think.
Brad first off Thank you for what you do trying to keep people safe you boys in Blue don't hear it enough for what you do so Thank you! All your points are right on. If need any help on that saw let me know I've built a couple of saws myself so if I could be of any help let me know. Oh and I'm on back 40 FB page. Be safe out there.
Thanks so much Bill. I appreciate that. Things have changed a lot since I started this career in the late 90’s. I appreciate your offer on the saw. Thanks so much for for stopping by and taking time to comment.
Wow Brad, this video was so well done, like 💯👍. Appreciated you sharing this with us, and thanks for your insight on these 10 reasons :). Beautiful bike collection and I’ve always wanted to as well to do one of those farmertec build saws, although I would have went for the 372 kit myself 😉. Anyways Brad, thanks for sharing this an having out to the shop on this day! Take care. Andrew from NB :)
Hello from Chicago! I really enjoyed the video, it's nice to see what people are thinking after watching them do what they do on youtube, I appreciate it. You are in a tough profession now but make sure you always understand, there are far more people for you than against. Ride safe.
Just starting watching your Channel ,I have some catching up to do . The channel is great enjoy all the videos and also enjoy watching and seeing places I recognize since I am in Maryland also and have Family in Cecil County . Lovely family you are truly blessed to have family that support you in your endeavor . Thank you for your service to the people of Maryland we were blessed to have someone of your caliber patrolling for us . Sorry about your Fathers passing I believe you about the Eagle being sent to look out for you . My Dad passed 51 years ago and the hole in my heart has not gotten smaller . You take of your Mom who seems like a lovely person and would like to hear her perform if you can give us location . Good Luck to you guys and see you at the top.
Thanks so much for all of your kind words. Welcome to the channel and I hope you continue to enjoy this journey with us. My dads passing was life changing for me and really made me reevaluate my priorities. I believe everything happens for a reason and I’m not sure where this ride is taking me but I’m enjoying it so far
1 mile away from your mom is a perfect distance. That's very sweet of you to go and see her all the time. Yes, the "that's what I accomplished at the end of the day" is a wonderful feeling at the end of the day. I too have not watch mainstream media for a long time as well. Beautiful bikes!... Thanks for sharing
Cool bikes i'm a sports bike guy 113000 miles on my r6 commute 125miles every day rain or shine put 140000 on my 96 yzf 600 r keep the rubber side down my friend.
I’ve watched a few of your videos in the past. When you hit #10 I hit the subscribe button. I’m 72 years old and I can relate to so many of your 10 reasons. You will have great success with your RUclips venture. While I still cut and sell wood as a hobby I realize that I don’t have a whole lot of years left to do it. Enjoy yourself while you can because time flys by!
Thanks so much Richard. I appreciate your kind comments and your insight. If you’ve watched my videos then you understand why this is somewhat therapeutic for me. I wish you all the best and thanks so much for watching.
Thanks Harry. I appreciate that. I just try to be real and convey who I really am and how I’ve changed over the past several months. I appreciate you watching
Great list of reasons...enjoyed hearing it. Heck of a ride ya got there for getting to work! Looks like it has some zip...what 0 to 60 in 2 seconds or so? lol Being late for work must be a fun way to start the day...hahaha 👍 😀 🍻
Lol thanks Dan. Yes it’s pretty quick. People ask us all the time “What happened to your Harley’s?” My standard answer is “the same thing that happened to our revolvers” lol.
Hello Brad. 10 awesome things on your list. I can definitely relate to a lot on your list. Thank you for protecting and serving the people in your community. Have a great day
Brad , I miss my dad very much . We lost him to brain cancer in 2009. We are a lot alike . I enjoy cutting and splitting wood . I love to bass fish which I do every chance I get . One thing I love to do is mow grass . I also have turned off the media. I watch RUclips 99% of the time . Since I bass fish a lot I make my own lures . You have a wonderful collection of Bikes.
Thanks so much. I really enjoy fishing too. I’m sure you saw the rods on the wall lol. Making your own lures sounds like fun. I just don’t get to fish as much as I would like because I have too many hobbies and other responsibilities.... I’m so sorry about your dad. I unfortunately I can relate and I know it leaves a void that will never be filled. I keep moving forward trying to make him proud every day. He made me who I am. Thanks for watching and I hope your healing up. Take care.
Been making firewood for heat for over 14 years, mom & dad quit burning around 5 years ago, made wood for both until then. My mother passed last July and I kinda want into overdrive with the wood since. Having a hard time finding places to stack it! It has very much become my place of "peace & quiet" (even though the equipment is not). Take care and thank you for what you do, Jared
Thanks Jared. It’s definitely my peaceful place. Quiet doesn’t work for me. I need to stay busy and occupied much like you and the people who watch this channel. I’m so sorry about your Mom. Keep pushing and stay busy my friend.
1st off thank you for your 24years of service. The way I see it you are the last line of defense before the bad guys inside my front door.. As for the chainsaw kit no problem there like you said if it crashes and burns or runs for years you will learn something from it and that my friend is worth more than the 300 you paid.. Every Mazda Rotary vehicle I have built I have learned something more than the cash I put into it. some of it was dumb stuff but I learned something. 15 years (after my last build) later I am still passing on info to the next generation. I also tune out a lot media & have replaced it with RUclips as well..
Ill usually hand file but ill use hf bench grinder to fix teeth if they're bad and then do a fine tune in with hand file to get the best edge. I agree with what you said about parents i to do firewood to cope with loosing my mom 3 1/2yrs ago and coping with my dad having dementia. I agree with you on alot of your points👍
My first saw was that homelite xl at 13 when my dad showed me how to cut wood I don't how many cord of wood I cut with that saw good flash back now being 61 me and my brother are starting a fire wood biz love cutting and splitting wood.
Very good insight Brad, the quicker you realize that you are only here a short time makes for a better time spent. Firewood heals the mind and body. Take care have fun with the build.
Some nice bikes I don't ride but my wife does she has a 883 Sportster she added some mid ape hangers and a few other things. I would like to get a bike someday but it hard to find one to fit me I'm 6'10". And raising 4 grandkids not quite in the budget right now. But doing firewood is a very relaxing thing to do I'm 52 and I remember when I was 11 my dad took me out in the woods to help him. I started splitting when I was 12 kind of miss splitting by hand but I have a messed up back now so that's where the log splitter comes in. Always a good video. Stay safe out there.
Great introduction to the channel. I subscribed a few days ago. Thank you for your public service. I'm sorry to hear about your father passing. My prayers 🙏 are with you my brother! Seems that we have a few things in common with firewood. Are you on Maryland's western shore or Eastern Shore?
Thanks so much for the kind words. I appreciate your subscription and support. I’m on the eastern shore but barely. I’m in Cecil county which is the north eastern corner of the state. We border both Pennsylvania and Delaware
Thanks Brad! Not only helped me understand you but myself as well. Lost my Dad in January and have found myself decompressing through this multiple times. Richard -
Richard, I’m so sorry to hear of your Dads passing. I hope this video and my explanation of my story helped you just a little. I pray for your peace and healing. Stay strong my friend and thanks for watching.
I agree with all the above Brad! Regarding firewood, I've always been impressed with how much warmth a few sticks of wood can provide a group of people in need of heat, huddled around a camp fire or woodstove. It is such a great renewable resource and usually free for the taking. We own mountain ground and I particularly enjoy cleaning up the dead wood which would otherwise go to waste.
Great Video Brad. Got My 1st bike, 93 650 Nighthawk. fun nimble Bike. but getting to 6'4" I quickly outgrew it size wise But Dad got to ride on it just before He passed in 96. Upgraded to a used 94 1500 Goldwing. Became a member of the GWRRA and had a lot of People to ride & camp with. I still have my Cargo and Camper that I'd pull behind the Wing. as Time went on I found I was riding & camping all by myself. GWRRA does not exist anymore and everybody I used to ride with do not ride anymore or have passed away. My Wing is going up for sale as soon as I can all My Ham Radio gear off of it.. Here is Wisconsin I still see LOE's still use Harley Davidson Bikes AHAHAHA Mike M.
I am right there with you, something about cutting, splitting, stacking wood is therapeutic, the end result is useful too, keep up the good work and vids, I look forward to them.
Hi Brad!!😀😀 There is nothing wrong with the Farmertec saw kits. I'm not much into assembling them so I have bought a couple of the blue G660s. They have been good saws so far. I feel that you really can't go wrong with them for the price. I was always a Stihl guy when I logged full time by hand before I became a tree harvester operator. Now I only cut 20 to 30 cords of wood for my own use every year and the clone saws are a nice way to get a new saw without paying over a thousand dollars for one. Good luck on putting it together and enjoying it!!😀😀 Take care my friend!!😀😀 Logger Al
Great video that speaks to who you are. We have talked and you know I am on a similar journey with firewood and RUclips. I started my firewood business primarily because I was a afraid that some good citizen may cover me in burlap at the beach and then try to get me into the water. The exercise is fantastic and almost 20 pounds later, I am feeling great! I also wanted to show my daughter that with some ambition you can make something out of nothing. I have found it limiting my time on my Harley Davidson. Good luck with that new saw and I look forward to seeing videos on you progress with it.
Yessur, cherish your days with Mom, it will definitely give her much needed comfort now that your Dad is gone. I turned 67 last month, wife is 65 and today is her last day at work, retiring from school system! I've had a lot of hobbies over the years, but just recently started splitting firewood and I really enjoy it, keeps me busy outdoors too! Got a close friend who is a SC trooper, helps me understand what you folks have to endure on the job. Thumb's up to you Brad. I understand perfectly about watching the news. Waste of my time..
Pretty sure our minds think alike! I agree with everything you've said. I have also switched to using files to sharpen my chains now. I used the harbor freight grinder for a while and just never gave me that perfect edge. Took me a few sharpenings to get it down but now I think I do a pretty good job. No MSM for me either. I also have 2 chinese saws that are on the way. Why? I can't afford 1200 dollar saws. I might use 1 and sell 1. We'll see how they operate. Keep doing what you're doing. I enjoy your videos and lot's of others do as well.
Great video feel for u ,its been 16 years since i lost my dad still raw to this day but u have to be strong for all the ones that u love that are still here living stay strong ur dad would be proud of u xx
I really like watching your videos. As a fellow first responder except on the fire side, I fully understand the importance of a stress free hobby. Sometimes our hobbies cost us a lot more money than we make. But the fact you can do everything on your own schedule is so calming. I hope you are at 10k subscribers soon. You work hard and I am sure there are others that enjoy watching families working outside together. Stay Safe!
Thanks so much for those kind words. I’ve been a member of our local volunteer fire department as well for 27 years. I’ve held every fire line rank up to deputy chief and currently am a driver/pump operator. After kids and sports came along I just didn’t have the time that it takes to hold office. I’m glad you enjoy the videos. I really enjoy making them and interacting. Stay safe and thanks for watching.
Morning Brad I watch a lot of channels and they prefer to sharpen there chainsaw with a file a lot of people say it is calming they enjoy doind it that way sorry to here the loss of your dad I no where u r coming from my mum is ill very ill the fault of losing her is killing me but as they say u cannot live for ever s
Throughly enjoyed the video couple of questions I can certainly relate too especially watching RUclips so much more than TV , living in inner city London unfortunately not a lot of fire wood required as most homes have either gas fires or central heating or both some homes do have log burning fire types many for decorative features
Now a personal question, I've got a PT test next month for the state troopers here. I want to be a cvsa inspector but that's hired from the trooper pool. Is the job worth wait? I know the political environment is 💩 but it's a job that has a chance of real matter... But I don't know if the magical ticket fairy is what I want from it. Any advice?
Ok this may be long winded but here goes. The job has changed A LOT since I started in the late 90’s, and the political climate is well...like you said 💩. However, it’s a rewarding career and has great retirement and benefits. You develop bonds with coworkers through experiences that are unbreakable. I actually was in our commercial vehicle division for about 7 years. I am still a certified inspector and it will surely line me up for a job after police work. It’s hard to recommend this job to new guys who want to come in, but the bottom line is we need them. I think the political climate will come around eventually but it’s going to take time. My time is coming to an end but I’m praying cops become the good guys again soon. The media has flipped the script which is why I’ve tuned it out. Good luck to you whatever you decide.
@@FirewoodattheFurnace here the state patrol is part of the dot. I know this is really a dumb thing to say but it's mainly traffic for the troopers... I know there's more to it and I'm probably lying to myself about the amount of arrests they make but as a professional driver now it would seem to be more traffic control and tickets... Hell I'm in a state that still has it at 3rd DUI has no jail time...🧀🍺ya that one... I have no plans on moving up in rank or position, other than I want to make cvsa inspector. But I drive truck now. I have for 21 years. I don't see an desk job as a reward I'm very hands on. Oh and I had to laugh when the recruiter called and asked a few questions... Like, so how do you handle 50-60hour weeks without notice... I work until I'm done usually putting 60-70 in now... The thought of a 40hr week is kind of a then what do I do thing.
You're a Maryland State Trooper? Thought you were a hose jockey!! lol Great video Brad and proud to call you a friend. Stay safe and enjoy your "hobby"!!
I got my first bike at 16, then raced for a couple years and got to learn a lot. Met my wife and owned three bikes, and got married with none. I'm always looking at the latest Ducati lineup, but kids, home, yeah... Great video as always. Remember that everyone is right in their own mind. So any comments, like on the kit saw, are just someone's opinion. Guys are always trying to 'fix' things and that includes RUclipsrs that are simply documenting their day. But damn, if you were just like us we wouldn't want to watch. Irony, huh???
It’s a chain not a blade 😜. I prefer using a grinder to sharpen my chains, never was able to figure how to use a “freehand” file. My Oregon grinder cost $428 in 2013, that Harbor Freight is what $40? 30-40 degrees is definitely working weather. I’m not getting rich selling firewood but I am getting by and I am my own boss.
Very positive video; thanks for sharing and for your public service! Tim
Welcome to the world of firewood. Former Combat Marine, Retired Army 1SG....you are right no stress in the wood yard...
Thanks Tom. Also thank you for your service! 🇺🇸 much respect sir. Appreciate you watching

That was a great video. All your hobbies and your job are GREAT. Thanks
Keep up the great job you are doing!
Thanks!
Thanks for the comments! It’s fun to learn something new. It’s a challenge and rewarding at the same time.
You nailed it Brad! I'm going to show this video to any friends and family who ask me why I'm doing this.
Thanks so much.
The Farmertec saws are throwaway saws, but if you’re happy with it and it works for you who cares what anyone else thinks?
Exactly! I love getting opinions and input but ultimately it only affects me so I’ll learn along the way. Thanks Joe
My first saw was that homelite xl at 13 when my dad showed me how to cut wood I
don't how many cord of wood I cut with that saw good flash back now being 61 me and my brother are starting a fire wood biz love cutting and splitting wood.
Good luck to you and your brother David and thanks for watching.
Very good insight Brad, the quicker you realize that you are only here a short time makes for a better time spent. Firewood heals the mind and body. Take care have fun with the build.
Thanks Mark
Great video. Lost my dad 42years ago and live one mile from my mum. The spirit is with us x
Thanks so much. 6’10”! Wow that’s great. Basketball player? Appreciate you watching and taking time to comment.
@@FirewoodattheFurnace never much into basketball I'm more into hunting fishing and outdoor stuff.
Here is Wisconsin I still see LOE's still use Harley Davidson Bikes AHAHAHA
Mike M.
I am right there with you, something about cutting, splitting, stacking wood is therapeutic, the end result is useful too, keep up the good work and vids, I look forward to them.
Thanks Ben, I really appreciate that
Hi Brad!!😀😀
There is nothing wrong with the Farmertec saw kits.
Good luck on putting it together and enjoying it!!😀😀
Take care my friend!!😀😀
Logger Al
Thanks for the kind words sir. I’ll give an update!
Thanks for watching as always my friend.
Great video thanks for sharing. Lol I was just thinking about the saw thing too. 👍
Congrats to your wife! Thanks for watching and for your comments. Being outdoors is surely good for the mind
Thanks so much for the comments! Yes it sounds like we have a bunch in common lol. I appreciate you watching.
Great video feel for u ,its been 16 years since i lost my dad still raw to this day but u have to be strong for all the ones that u love that are still here living stay strong ur dad would be proud of u xx
Thanks so much for the kind words
That’s true but there is never a good time. I will pray for her and you Toni.
Didn't know you were a State Trooper.
Hat's off to you.
I enjoyed the video.
Take care Officer Brad 👍🇺🇸
Throughly enjoyed the video couple of questions I can certainly relate too especially watching RUclips so much more than TV , living in inner city London unfortunately not a lot of fire wood required as most homes have either gas fires or central heating or both some homes do have log burning fire types many for decorative features
Thanks so much for watching. I’m thankful for you taking the time to send a comment.
You get what you pay. for an education,a cheap/ saw will be a good tool since you are planning on fixing it.
I got a chain bench grinder you can have. They’re junk if you ask me. Take care Brad!👍🏻
I kind of agree with you
Awesome toys. Looks like you need to build a bigger garage.
No matter how big you build it, you always fill it
@@FirewoodattheFurnace aint that the truth.
Lol great points! Thanks for the comments.
Keep an eye 👁 on the mail your package should arrive today or tomorrow.
Thanks for watching Joe. Thanks also for keeping me in line lol
