I use the GPS dongle for war driving. It doesn’t apply as much to looking at the planes with ADS-B, but it’s force of habit anytime I have Kismet open.
@@r3dd0g31nice! This video sent me down a rabbit hole. (Not tech savvy) I went and bought a old laptop figured out how to install Kali. Then purchased DIYmall vk-162 & SDR-RTL v3 dongle. Then purchased a 1090 antenna. Had to learn what a terminal was and how to use it. Long story short I got this working. I used dump1090. I learned a lot! I’m on a roll & not bad for a old man. Thanks a whole new world has appeared for me.
Most of the flight tracking software on phones rely on an Internet connection and are subject to delays and arbitrary censorship by the data provider. If you use SDR, you get real time information directly from all of the ADS-B transponders in the sky that are visible from your location. I'm addition to Kismet and dump1090 on a laptop, there are a few Android SDR apps that do the same real time monitoring of the radio signals directly.
Like @Axon said, there’s some unique advantages to getting the data directly from the aircraft. I personally have seen aircraft through ADS-B that were not listed on sites like FlightAware.
LBT represent. Beautiful pupper
Thanks! IYKYK
Where can I buy that mini radar :D
The good ol' times with the 1090
🔥
was that a drone in the air?
Nope. A couple of airplanes. Hard to tell from a phone camera. 🤣
What’s the antenna you use? Any tips on picking up atc
What antennas are you using?
This is San Antonio right!?
What is it's range?
Is there a reason for the VK 162 over the VK 162? What software are you running?

@@MorrWorm8 that's amazing! Seriously the coolest comment I've gotten.
If you don't mind me asking, what are the specs of your laptop?
That particular laptop is dead now, but it was an old $300 laptop from 2015. It doesn’t take much to run Linux with Kismet.
@@r3dd0g31hi, can kismet get location from google map and exports flight information to feed Flightradar24?
Which software do you need for tracking planes with SDR?
Kismet
Like @BagaBlana said, I am using Kismet in this video. There are other options as well, but Kismet is the one I am familiar with.
dump1090
@@r3dd0g31is kismet open sourced or paid? Also maps load without internet? Thanks
@@JimLahey77 BRO WTF JUST GOOGLE IT
while cool, couldnt you just use any airplane tracking phone app to do this?

People who run ADS-B receivers and publish their data are what those apps rely on
