Salem's Lot is not really a jump scare kind of story. It's filled with spooky scenes and dread. If it's done properly and not schlock, then it could be a horror movie for the ages. The book introduces a lot of characters, some you hate, some you love, and those you simply feel sorry for, especially when they're turned. Even the town and the old house on the hill were characters. Don't let it become a letdown like the most recent IT two-parter was (to me at least).
Me too...watched it with my brothers when it first aired in the UK...id just turned 11....watching the glick boy floating through the window and the first part ending with Larry crockett running out the house into the master...proper scared (but excited to be able to stay up and watch it) shitless. its all everyone talked about at school the next day..I think because it was set in modern rather than victorian times was what made it worse....David Soul was brilliant as the reluctant hero.....I still love it now at 55 years old....Great memories .
you might want to lower your expectations. The goal was to redo it with a woke cast not to tell the story. That's why it's sat on a shelf for two years. Dr. Cody is now a black woman. Mark Petrie is now Black. Those were the priorities in filming the story. The push to redo everything for the sheer sake of casting minorities to push a social justice agenda is getting tiring and it's why so many films are failing. People don't want this crap shoved down our throats. People can't save their breath saying that Stephen King approved of the changes. What else is that woke POS going to say. The book was fantastic. Sadly in this world we will never see a faithful film.

Warner Bros needs to end this very bad habit of getting creative people together to make something worth seeing, only to cancel it and turn it into a tax write-off.

I saw the original miniseries when it came out, and I caught the remake as well. I didn’t read the book until after I had seen them both, and it definitely needs to be set in the 70s. Not only because that was the original setting, but modern technology has changed how we interact with horror, and something like Salems Lot needs a more “old fashioned” setting.
I just don't think a 113 minute run time is sufficient to effectively tell this story. I will definitely watch it on streaming out of curiosity more than anticipation, but I would not go to a theater to see it.

Just my opinion but I beleive they want to scrap it because it's an old fashioned film with a 1970s feel and not a loud, obnoxious, CGI superhero film. They're worried a film with an old fashioned feel won't make any money. The peabrains of today are only interested in Marvel comics characters for some reason.
Salem's Lot is by far my #1 favorite novel by Stephen King. I hope this new film version does the book justice. The two movies from 1979 and 2004 were disappointing. That final scene from the 1979 classic...after 45 years I still can't fathom the stupidity of that groundskeeper (Clint Eastwood's buddy and film character) stopping while he was digging the grave and......wait for it....jumping into the grave to...open the lid and see the dead boy. WTF! It's not like he was hypnotizeed by looking directly into the eyes of a vampire. In both the novel and the original film the novel, the moron handyman simply stared down and jumped in for no compelling reason. In the book, once he had the coffin open, the site of Benji's (?) eyes being open unnerved him into concluding he needed silver coins to stop this from making him uncomfortable. But this was after he hopped in. Suicidal curiosity, like the Haddonfield sheriff in Halloween 2 who simply had to lean over a "dead" Michael Meyers for no rational purpose, in spite of Loomis' repeated warnings.
It's not supposed to be rational and logical. It's a horror movie. All scenes are primarily made for most atmosphere in themselves, disregarding logic in the total story. And this was the most atmospheric take on this scene.
The only way horror can work is by presenting a contrast between normality and occasional suspension of disbelief. How is the viewer supposed to engage in the story if the total story is illogical? What is there to be afraid of if the entire movie makes no sense from start to finish? Where would the fear come from if it's patently obvious the entire exercise, from start to finish, is in your face impossible? If everything is illogical, the viewer might as well save their money and lose themself in their imagination for free.

Finally: Salems Lot is most definitely not a jump scare kinda story...the fact that it's considerably less than two hours and has had this much trouble means it's either a bit of a turkey (with, probably, excessive studio meddling ruining an easy thing) or the unleadership at Warners is really only good at protecting investor portfolios not selling us movies
