Just went to one yesterday, it was over whelming but fun at the same time. I agree in focusing on purchasing name brand clothing and purchasing cloths for the next 6 months. Be patient and remember to look thru the racks for the hidden gems. Great video!
Prepping for a spring consignment sale as I watch!! I love the space I get in my basement from selling, and I love the great deals I find when I get to shop the presale!!
So cute when your son was talking at the end of the video about waiting for halloween! You have a beautiful family!. I never thought of buying clothes for my sons at a consignment store but after watching this video I will have to go and check it out!!! Especially, because after a year or less the clothes does not fit them anymore.
I love your tips!! Thanks so much! And I LOVE to hear Carson talk! ☺️ I have two boys (6 & 7 years old) and I showed them one of your videos and they said "he is so cute!". We love your whole family!!
As a seller, I feel like that's how tags get lost or come off and items go missing. When shoppers grab arm loads of items and then decide they don't want them and then fail to put them back in the correct place.. I have had so many items disappear because of this over the 12 years I have consigned.. I know it's also extremely frustrating for the sale owners and organizers to keep up with this.. I say as long as you're putting the items back where they belong it's fine, but not a good habit to get into otherwise..
Good idea to take a tape measure along-I always measure items because sometimes they do shrink- don't want to end up with something you can't use. I do more rummages and church rummages are ALWAYS good deals!!! ♥
my 3 year old brother likes picking out his own clothes, he actually tries it on amd does a few stretches to see if he likes how they feel, i jzust think its so adorable and makes the children feel importa t when they know they have a choice, your son is adorable btw, thanks for your vids, even tho im not a mom i like watching your vids they aee so relaxing haha
I don't think we have those over here in the UK! We have regular shop sales, but I'm guessing consignment items are second hand? We have a lot of charity shops which sell second hand clothes and sometimes they will have a sale. This year I'm planning on shopping in charity shops for Christmas and buying good glass items etc to make into presents - like little glass bowls and fill them with home made truffles and such.
Such great tips! I remember the first consignment sale I went to, I had no clue, no strategy and saw moms who brought laundry baskets and empty strollers and moms who strategized by going to the shoes and toys first, clothes were last because there is just so much more clothes. Now that we moved to NYC, we don't have these big consignment sales (that I know of, if any of you know of any, please let me know!!!) Thanks Katherine!
thank you for the tips this year I did back to school shopping that the local thrift shop and got clothes for a whole year $25 dollars for 2 kids. it was 15 pairs of pants and 15 shirts .
Would love to meet you when you come to MI!!! I'm in Lansing, so just a short drive away!! Thank you for these great tips and tricks! I love consignment shopping!
When my daughter was about 2, (she is 23 now) I bought her the most beautiful , white pageant dress at a consignment shop for $15. She wore it for her 2nd birthday party :) I also bought a mint green , brand new, stroller there too for $25.
I need to find them where we live in Minnesota. We're new to the area and I've never been to a big consignment sale before, but with 4 boys saving where we can is important to us. Especially with needing to get winter clothes for our first real winter 😁 Thank you for the tips I feel much more prepared and a lot less anxiety about going 👍🏼
Hey Kathryn........wow, excellent tips here for consignment shopping ! Where I live our shops are very small compared to what you have , so jelly.......you got great deals on Carson's clothing, and how cute is that Halloween outfit :)
What fantastic tips, Kathryn! Especially the big bags and a sheet for the floor. Do you find the consignment shops better than thrift stores? I do not shop at any used item stores. I am a highly sensitive person, and when wearing something someone else has worn, it feels like the person is in the clothes, along with me. No matter how many times I wash it, the person's vibe is still present. It's a bummer, because I love bargains, and reuse/recycle practices. I am very affected by whom has touched even the new stock at the store, such that I will select the back one to purchase. Seriously. Even objects will often be haunted. Once in San Francisco, where space is at a premium, we went into a nonprofit's antique store. My sister wanted to go there, because it was right next to the restaurant we lunched at. In the tiny space, the cacaphony of entities trying to talk to me, all at once, was unbearable. I had to stand outside, until my sis was done shopping. Locally, I attended a lecture at a large used bookstore. They also have other items for sale, from musical instruments to decor items. Immediately, my eyes were drawn to a Mexican souvenir, for a couple of dollars. It was very old, but in pristine condition. It was an exquisitely done brass statue of a Mayan God, about 4" high, not molded. It was an assembled artisan's work, even with dangling pieces joined together, creating movement. The artwork was mounted on a magnificent good sized marble square, quality you never see any more, in the marketplace. It was black marble, with golden veins running through it, coordinating with the brass, and highly polished, with rounded sides. I picked it up, and saw the bottom underneath had an explanation card, written in an old fashioned typewriter font & spacing. I was smitten. I even felt like a little electrical charge, went through me, as I held it. As I pondered it/him, knowing what a valuable piece it was, feeling powerfully enchanted with it, I also began feeling uneasy. As this feeling arose in me, I realized something negative was attached to it. Yet, I really wanted to talk myself out of my intuitive impressions, using my rationale & intellect. I had loved studying the ancient cultures of the Americas, including the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan civilizations, as a child. I decided to conduct a test, with my former scientist self welling up in me. I went to a young man who worked at the store. I know that many of the younger generations after me, are very open-minded. I intuitively felt he would be game for my test. I told Justin that I was interested in a certain item, but something felt strange to me. I asked him if he wouldn't mind looking at a whole long counter of small decorative items, and see if he could pick out the one that seemed odd. Right away, Justin went over to the Mayan piece & picked it up, and said, "it's this one, isn't it?" Crestfallen, I said yes. He went on to say they hadn't had it for long. Seeing my sad face, he offered to put it on hold for me. I declined, knowing that as much as I loved the piece, it was not good for me to bring something like that, into my home. It simply wasn't worth taking the chance. I recalled a paranormal reality show on TV, called "The Collector" that I saw many years ago. It was a team of investigators that were called out to a home or business, to clear out bad mojo. They were always places that had some antiques. The team would be able to single out what was causing the trouble. So I know it's a real phenomena. I left the store, regretfully without the object. I couldn't stop thinking about it. That night, I had an unusual & scary dream. The object was now alive, full size, and he kept encouraging me to go back to the store, to buy him. Oh my. I called out to JC (I'm sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone with the mention of a religious icon), the Archangels, and asked for protection. This was quite trippy to experience.
+Elaine Marie I definitely find Consignment to be a much better concentration of kids' stuff than thrifting. Especially because a lot of donated items are the rejects from consignment sales.
Great tips and you found a lot of good deals. Do you know sites where I can find local consignments sales for women or men? I don't have any kids so I'm looking for clothes for my boyfriend and I.
Hi!! I love your videos! I like good deals and I dont like waist! I am knew to this! But I already found the one in my town and its towards the end of this month! Now, I have a question, do they only sell kid stuff, or different things? Thanks! =)
I freakin love consignment sales! We have mom 2 mom sales in my area and they're just the best. Even better than higher end consignment stores where you will find quality, and are absolutely less expensive than retail but I find can still be pricey for second hand.
Great tips - where were you (and the RUclips) when my boys were that size? Lol! One tip you might use as Carson gets into superhero and other character dress-up: little girls' leggings make perfect bottoms for Batman, Superman, Spiderman, and all kinds of other costumes, and can always be found for a dollar at GW. My son dressed up as a Pirate several times a week for years (even to the grocery store), and leggings were the way to go. Also, girls' basic black boots go with so many costume themes. Hope that helps!
Sorry to be so ignorant about this, but what is a consignement sale? I have no idea if it is actually something that's done in my country too or not. Thanks for the help !
+Hinahon Hey! Consignment sales are sales where average sellers who have extra stuff (kid items, teen clothes, name brand designers for adults, etc) bring them to a venue on particular dates (usually weekends) and sell them. They typically happen at churches or gyms. The venue takes a cut and the seller gets the rest. And the buyers get awesome things at a really good price!
Hi Kathryn! I got the notification you uploaded and I just wanted to stop getting ready and tell you that I am in love with your videos!! (particuarly the dollar tree ones!! ) Yeah!! Happy Wednesday!! ( dont think I spelt your name right, sorry! )
My goodness I'm in love I wish we had this here it's a very country nothingness lol. I need a place like this so badly. With three boys it's terrible. But I get and combine as much as possible and save so much. Wood toys are the best my son just turned three well youngest did and we found wood cars at the dollar tree, they are awesome.
Love the video! Are you guys from MI? I am from East Lansing! Would love to meet you and sweet Carson! One of the kids I babysit name is Carson and that is my fav boys name!!
In my son class, when someone is having a birthday party, the parents collect 5€ from each kid and the parents buy one/two big expensive gifts that the birthday kid really wanted, and it's cheaper for everyone.
I WISH consignment shops caught on over in the UK. We have charity shops and they're run by volunteers but they're nothing like what you've shown today, they're usually all really tatty clothing and you're lucky if you can find anything half decent (at least where I live)

Those are good prices - but if I marked my things that low - I wouldn't make it worth my time. You only make 50-70% on items. Washing (ironing sometimes), hanging, pricing, transporting, picking up if need be... for $1.00 or 50 cents an item? I would just as likely donate it to Goodwill. I DO sell consignment - but I charge a bit more.
Glad I am not the only one that's shopped for Halloween already ! ( Its not a big thing in New Zealand, But my 3 year old Girl really wants to be Elsa from Frozen ). She's trying to convince me to dress up as Anna from Frozen :P
Kathryn, Could you please talk a liitttle bit slooower in your videos? I always feel like I am in a race to keep up with you - and I really want to hear all you have to say!! Thanks much for your consideration, xx~ Jen
I now have four little kids who are very opinionated about Halloween costumes and I do not like to blow our budget on brand new costumes. It takes a whole lot of work to figure it all out every year!
+Lindsay Ashton They can be SO expensive. I know what you mean. Long gone are the days where you can pick something out that you like that doesn't break the bank, right? I found a $3 bumble bee costume but he wasn't havin' it ;) GL!

It would be so great if they had a consignment sale like that for grown up clothes...or wishing I fit in kid sizes ;) Thanks for the tips!
+The Frey Life They do!! The site below lists them :) Lots of the sales tend to be "designer brands" at low prices :)
Oh goody!!!!
Just went to one yesterday, it was over whelming but fun at the same time. I agree in focusing on purchasing name brand clothing and purchasing cloths for the next 6 months. Be patient and remember to look thru the racks for the hidden gems. Great video!
So excited! Ours is next week! I'm prepping my stuff to sell like a mad woman!
+Sweet And Simple Home Awesome! YOu go, momma!
Great reminder about leaving the little ones behind. It's the only way for me to focus.
+Patricia Keele Haha, amen!
Awesome tips! I love consignment sales and they are right around the corner.
The little clips of Carson talking, with subtitles, in your videos is just about my favorite thing on RUclips. : )
Prepping for a spring consignment sale as I watch!! I love the space I get in my basement from selling, and I love the great deals I find when I get to shop the presale!!

+Amelia Brussow We are from the Novi area, but we now live in North Carolina. MI is such a great place to be in the summer and we miss that!
In my son class, when someone is having a birthday party, the parents collect 5€ from each kid and the parents buy one/two big expensive gifts that the birthday kid really wanted, and it's cheaper for everyone.
+RomanticWoman83 That's a great idea!!
Great tips!
Wow that's pretty good, I don't think we have anything like that over here in Britain, well not that I'm aware of. Good video though :)
I just love you Kathryn! 😘☺️

Kathryn, great tips! I am so in agreement with bringing a list! Soooo true! Carson will be a great skeleton.:-) Take care---- Brandis
+MrsLoveAboveAll Thanks, Brandis!
Grab a ton, sort later is my method too!
I WISH consignment shops caught on over in the UK. We have charity shops and they're run by volunteers but they're nothing like what you've shown today, they're usually all really tatty clothing and you're lucky if you can find anything half decent (at least where I live)
+Average Jane Honestly? Why not start one? If you learn how (and being so far away, I think people might be helpful with hints of how to run one) - I'll BET it would be very popular (being the first anywhere around).
These owners of sales are making GOOD money!

Very good ideas. Thank you!
+Monique Meade You're welcome. Hope you are having a great week, Monique!
DoItOnaDime Thank you have a great one as well!
Do more conshinment hauls
Glad I am not the only one that's shopped for Halloween already ! ( Its not a big thing in New Zealand, But my 3 year old Girl really wants to be Elsa from Frozen ). She's trying to convince me to dress up as Anna from Frozen :P
great video!!!
+stargage13 Thank you!!
Great tips! tfs
I always shop consignment for my two year old. They outgrow it all way to fast.
very cool
Kathryn,
Could you please talk a liitttle bit slooower in your videos? I always feel like I am in a race to keep up with you - and I really want to hear all you have to say!!
Thanks much for your consideration, xx~ Jen
I now have four little kids who are very opinionated about Halloween costumes and I do not like to blow our budget on brand new costumes. It takes a whole lot of work to figure it all out every year!
+Lindsay Ashton They can be SO expensive. I know what you mean. Long gone are the days where you can pick something out that you like that doesn't break the bank, right? I found a $3 bumble bee costume but he wasn't havin' it ;) GL!
wow great mom
lucky very nice
Carson is so cute.
Um...you're like a genius...
I'm not sure what a consignment sale is.

Oh! I'm not sure if I've seen any around here.
I looked to see if Miami fl had anything. Booo! Nothing. 😔 Miami is usually too conceited to have those type of stores!!! 😔
My 4 year old daughter wants to be a skeleton for Halloween too!
+Lizwsw Awesome! It's so hard to find skeleton costumes for the little guys that aren't too scary!
So early yay
I thought you were Christian. .. how come you celebrate Halloween? ???????
they celebrate halloween too ;P
