He’s talked about his anxiety related to chess competition in the past, and that’s nothing compared to the anxiety of competing in combat sports. I’d imagine that’s more the reason he won’t do it rather than avoiding injury.

I love this! I’m a boxer/kickboxer and I do training at a UFC gym and you’re not kidding at all about boxing/kickboxing and heavy bag work being tough! Same with remembering combinations, you hit the nail pretty much on the head. Your forms were both pretty sloppy in terms of keeping your hands up and using more of your legs and hips in your punches but it’s like you said you’re not fighting each other you’re just punching the pads. Very fun video! You should consider doing more like this in the future if you can!

I used to watch GothamChess but I haven't checked in since the content started aiming more for kids and teenagers. All the comments being about "the rook" or " speaks for itself". Got so boring I went back to the OG Agadmator for my relaxing chess fix knowing I wont be yelled at and the comments wont be tedious (by YT standards anyway). Crazy how a year or more later the comments here are still talking about the rook. I'd love for Levy to show the changing age demographics since 2020 of his channel. No hate to him, he can do what he wants and what brings in the most views and money. I prefer Agadmator again now though most certainly.

I think a great way to show how much boxing exhausts you, is in Holyfield vs Qawi 1, Holyfield threw 1,290 punches over 15 rounds and was so exhausted by the end he had to be rushed to hospital as had lost 15 lbs of fluid. In fact one thing you'll notice about the best endrance boxers is they'll have a small layer of fat over their muscles this is to be burned off during the fight for calories, further back in boxing you go the more you see it as their endurance was amazing. Another example is the best conditioned Heavyweight boxer of all time Rocky Marciano, would run 6/7 miles every single day in army boots and that's when he wasn't training for a boxing match. When he was he'd work up to running 15 miles a day every single day in training camp, so over a half marathan a day again in army boots. The endurance is incredible and he was fighting 15 rounds, in the 1910s there were 46 round sanctions bouts so that's over an hour and a half of straight boxing and before then it was unlimited rounds.
For what it's worth, Levy's punches were much harder. Close to the end, the trainer paired with Danny was slapping Danny's gloves instead of Danny actually punching.

The "last ten seconds" part is very true. When I trained my coach was yelling at the end of pretty much every drill "THIR-TY" and you have 30 seconds to go as hard as you can at whatever it is that you are currently doing.
In the final boxing round, Danny's boxing partner didnt mive at all, that just allowed Danny to continue hitting normally. But Levy had to punch while circling is boxing partner.
After seeing them both hit mits, there were some things I noticed. Danny's feet were planted, and Levy had a good stance and movement. Levy also had his guard up. Idk the weight difference, but I think Levy would win a boxing match if he used distance control and movement.

Grappling comes more naturally to most humans than striking imo. In an hour you can teach the basics of back control and a rear naked choke, even as amateurs two people can clumsily grapple each other trying to get into those positions.

I like this version of chessboxing, especially when it comes to content creators I enjoy. I don't want to see someone that makes good content videos starting their CTE arc. But, I'd say instead of like, number of punches, you could do the thing with the Fist of the North Star arcade game, where you have 8 punch targets, and you gotta hit the ones that get lit up, and you have to do it with a non-glancing amount of impact.
New video idea. Chess roulette, spin a wheel that has a picture of all chess pieces, or assign each piece a number ex. Pawn=1, knight=2 and so on. ask siri for a random number between the numbers assigned or spin the wheel and based off the result that is the piece you have to move on your next turn. To account for time spent doing this before each turn, play on rapid and bully intermediate chess players.
I don't understand why they couldn't have engaged in a simple light contact sparing match, where you're not allowed to hit hard, you basically try to win by points/clean shots, no one needs to get hurt, I'm sure they would have enjoyed the experience
I think chessboxing without actually punching the other is better. I would prefer "chessfit" like there is turns of sport actions (aerobics, lifting weights, running, whatever) between turns of chess moves. Rather than hurting others.
hey I got an idea for another one why don't you guys go out to a fancy restaurant or a beer hall and start drinking some beers and then play every like 10 minutes after you drink a couple beers so you know you play like three games in an hour and you both have to drink the same amount and that will be fun as hell I'm pretty sure!
