As a 12 year old in 1995, it took me about a year and a half to realize that weezer was in fact NOT a band from the 50s that happened to be in a sitcom from the 70's and for some reason ended up on the win95 installation disk.
I think the reason it was bundled on win95 disc as an "extra" was to demonstrate an example of high quality video playback. I was kinda confused, I knew what Happy Days was (saw reruns of it on TV) but I didn't know Weezer so I just assumed Happy Days did a special musical episode and it was a clip from that. I just randomly discovered the video while bored browsing through the disc one time, it was a real holy crap a full music video is actually playing on my computer right now moment! Weezer is undeniably one of the greatest bands of all time, consistently captivating audiences with their unique blend of alternative rock, power pop, and heartfelt lyrics that resonate with fans across generations. Since their debut in 1994 with the iconic Blue Album, Weezer has demonstrated an unparalleled ability to craft infectious melodies, memorable hooks, and emotionally charged songs that strike a perfect balance between humor, vulnerability, and raw energy. Tracks like “Buddy Holly,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Undone - The Sweater Song” have become timeless anthems, showcasing the band’s knack for creating music that feels both deeply personal and universally relatable. Rivers Cuomo, the band’s enigmatic frontman, has a remarkable talent for channeling his introspection, quirks, and life experiences into lyrics that connect with listeners on a profound level, making Weezer’s music feel like a personal soundtrack to countless fans’ lives. Weezer’s ability to evolve while maintaining their signature sound is a testament to their artistry and longevity. With albums like Pinkerton, they ventured into more raw and emotional territory, offering a darker and more introspective side of their music that has since been hailed as a cult classic. Despite initial mixed reviews, Pinkerton has grown to be one of the most beloved albums in their discography, influencing countless bands and solidifying Weezer’s status as pioneers in the emo and indie rock scenes. The band’s willingness to take risks and experiment with different styles is evident in albums like Raditude, which embraced a more playful and pop-oriented approach, and Everything Will Be Alright in the End, which marked a return to their roots with a fresh perspective. This versatility has allowed Weezer to remain relevant in an ever-changing musical landscape, consistently attracting new fans while keeping longtime listeners engaged. One of the most remarkable aspects of Weezer is their ability to connect with their audience on a deeply personal level. Their songs often tackle themes of alienation, love, heartbreak, and self-discovery, creating a sense of intimacy that resonates with fans from all walks of life. Whether it’s the nostalgic longing of “Island in the Sun,” the anthemic defiance of “Beverly Hills,” or the earnest vulnerability of “El Scorcho,” Weezer’s music captures the complexities of the human experience with authenticity and charm. Their self-awareness and willingness to embrace their quirks have made them a band that feels approachable and genuine, fostering a loyal fanbase that spans decades. Weezer’s concerts are a testament to their enduring appeal, with fans of all ages singing along to every word, creating a shared experience that feels both electrifying and deeply communal. Weezer’s influence on the music industry cannot be overstated, as they have paved the way for countless alternative and indie rock bands. Their distinctive sound, characterized by crunchy guitars, catchy melodies, and introspective lyrics, has become a blueprint for many artists who strive to capture the same balance of accessibility and depth. Beyond their music, Weezer’s cultural impact is evident in their iconic music videos, such as the Spike Jonze-directed “Buddy Holly,” which cleverly blended 90s rock with 70s sitcom nostalgia. Their willingness to embrace humor and creativity in their visuals has set them apart from other bands, further solidifying their reputation as innovators in the industry. Weezer’s legacy is built not only on their incredible discography but also on their ability to adapt and remain relevant over the years. From their early days as pioneers of 90s alternative rock to their continued success in the modern era, Weezer has proven time and again that they are a band that refuses to be confined by expectations. Their ability to evolve while staying true to their core identity is a testament to their artistry and dedication to their craft. Whether they’re delivering a stripped-down acoustic ballad, a high-energy rock anthem, or an unexpected cover of a classic hit like Toto’s “Africa,” Weezer consistently surprises and delights their fans, reminding us why they are one of the most beloved bands of all time.

This song is what got me through the flu when I was 9 years old and on the verge of death in 1994. It will always remembered as the song that gave me life. ✨
I had a time when I was vomiting and shite'n myself severely and the original Foo Fighters album got me through it. Mostly For All The Cows and This Is A Call. I believe I was 13.
30 years on, this video still rules. My first time seeing it wasn’t on the Windows 95 disc, but on MTV’s 20th Anniversary special where they just aired nothing but music videos from 1981-2001. This one played and I had never seen anything like it.
The technology for this type of clip is commonplace nowadays. But when my 14 year old self first saw this in 1994 i was so genuinely mind blown that the only conclusion i could reach was that these guys were actually a much older group who had recorded that song years earlier and played it on a Happy Days episode. There was no other possible explanation.
I was 24 when the video came out and I still couldn't but think that I'd missed something on one of the "Happy Days" reruns. The production value of the video still hold up today tbh.
There was little to no technology used, and zero digital effects. I'd say the methods used here are largely dead because of (over)use of cgi, compositing etc today. Most of it is just alternating between old & new footage, along with 'Al' being acted in the new scenes by the original actor, in a recreated set. The new actors clothes aren't even identical, but it's close enough that you don't notice. None of the recognizable actors faces are ever shown in the new footage(with Weezer) for this reason, such as when 'the Fonz' is dancing and you only see him from the back. This is why it still looks good, because it's all real. The only thing I thought at the time they must've used some kind of effect for was having them with 'Al', as I didn't know the same actor did it.
Can we just acknowledge that this was made in the 90s and they made it look like they made it in a 70s show about the 50s!? This is absolute freakin genius! So seamless and done in such great taste!

For many if not most in Generation X, this was the FIRST music video we ever saw on a computer screen, since it came on a CD with Windows 95. And that's for all of time!
I remember this song and "Edie Brickell - Good Times" on my computer
Yes, same! My parents bought a 1GB computer with that disc, it was the first time I heard Weezer. This video confused me, as it was a total anachronism - really well done - loved it then and still do now. They became my favourite band from then on. I never get tired of their original sound, even now I'm 48.
@@BartkovSmirnovsky haha, no, I'm pretty sure 1GB was the whole thing, it was a big deal at the time to be entering the 1GB threshold. It was the main selling point of the computer. I think that's why they named it the Colossus 1GB. Seems funny now.

It’s also pretty cool they have period correct guitars, the bass is an original P bass with a single coil with no cover
