Just a quick note on Scar: It isnt that he could have used that arm in battle the whole time and chose not to. Before this, his left arm didnt even have the tattoos. That was the real impact of the moment and what he meant by fully accepting and embracing it. Instead of being a tool of heresy that was forced on him, this was a step he chose to take.
Yeah and specifically this happened during the few month time skip that occurred (end of episode 44 I think?). It’s when the heroes were all learning about/communicating about the Promised Day, then we skipped forward to right before that day.
I saw someone say that this was scar giving up on his religion. But we've seen the entire series that he knows he strayed from his god. That's why he's called scar in the first place, ishvallan names are gifts from god and he left it behind. I loved the reveal and what it means, especially in the face of Bradley. I see it more as him finally accepting and doing the right thing, despite all the pain amestris has caused him.

7:58 is what elevates this anime over others like Death Note. When I said this anime is HER, this is what I meant 😂 every interaction and matchup matters for the plot. It’s all intentional and necessary for character arcs. Scar v Bradley is one of my favorite moments of the show. The philosophy and the parallels 🤌
I definitely wrote May off on my first watch of this as a kid, but on rewatch this little 12 year old girl has some balls of steel! Shes an amazing fighter and while she can get in over her head at times, her bravery is immense.
Unless you have watched it before, you must watch the Berserk 1997 English dub, preferably on camera of course. It's the only anime I consider a must-watch.

When they refer to God and the portal its not really like the kind of god we think of in the abrahamic religions. Whatever is in the portal is more like a force of nature that gets encountered when you try to pull the soul of a dead person from beyond. Thats whats considered the ultimate sin and why Truth punishes those who open it. I do think the ishvallans believe in god in that sense though. Theyre v inspired by middle eastern people and are likely a parallel to Islam
That's a very limited and Christian centered vision of what God is supposed to be. By all means God could be neither Omniscient, omnipotent nor omnipresent... And yet be something so far above our understanding that by all means, they're God to us. And also the anime really never implied that it's got anything to do with christianism. That God isn't YHWH. That God is the truth. Or perhaps the world. The universe. The everything. The one is all, all is one. So everyone and also you. That's literally it.

Also, as someone raised non-denominational evangelical, humans being a superior God-breathed creature in charge of the rest of nature and exclusively invited to heaven was commonly taught and uncontested in that Christian sub-section. Catholics are likely divided since there have been popes saying opposite things about animals going to heaven. Considering its not really theologically consistent, its correct to say that "Christians say animals go to heaven" *and* "Christians say animals don't go to heaven."
