I didn't think Pennsylvania was all that "cheap" really. We looked at small houses, well out of major cities, and $261K was maybe a small house that needed extensive renovation. Pittsburgh was actually a better buy IMHO, because at least there are jobs and activities. Gasoline was fairly high (@3.50/gal) as well. Another factor is the 4.5% inheritance tax, which only 5 other states charge. As beautiful as Pennsylvania is, I may end up moving my retirement plans to another state.
