Project Brief
The renowned Gateway Arch in St. Louis beckons thousands of visitors each year to its striking cityscape along the western banks of the Mississippi River. Conversely, the eastern counterpart in East St. Louis presents a contrasting, despondent scene marked by the lingering remnants of bygone industries that have impeded the area's progress for decades. Despite recent efforts to introduce new public amenities, attracting visitors remains a challenge. This project aims to preserve the original industrial heritage, repurpose the riverfront's abandoned rail yard facilities as the basic elements for constructing dynamic architecture, and provide feasible programs for sustainable development in the area. The resulting new architecture will serve as a "performative scape" for both the east and west riverfronts.
