Very nice work. I am a viking combat reconstruction instructor at Warriors of Ash Sword School in Asheville, NC USA. We have a few videos here on RUclips as well. It is a great feeling to see that you have discovered the very same things about the application of the skjoldr that we have, including muscle strengthening drills and biomechanics. Thanks for sharing.
Greetings! Yeah I have just seen it, it quite similar in its concept! I love your exercises for the shield! However, I am not such a big fan of the weapon drills (axe) you do in the shield video. I am not sure in which ruleset you are training but the drills train in a very bad habit of not properly protecting your hands and underarm. I know some rule-sets do not include hits to the hand but since you are writing you do reconstruction, I guess you go for full-contact.
I also wanted to say thank you. I am no novice to either martial arts, or fitness training. But like some of the other commentars here, I have found little by way of basic training that makes sense and actually applying the muscular movement to a combat related action. I look forward to adding this routine to my general lifting, as well as my mace bell routine. Thank you again, great info.
This video has kept me going through this last lockdown! Between this and the sword and shield series I may even be improving slightly, can't wait to get back to actually fighting to try out everything
@@alexandermartzok_vikingcombat no we are shoulders, chest, back and upper legs. No head or arms, no groin nothing below the knee. But we do allow combat archers with rubber blunts. So some alterations have to be accounted for but it has been good.
I just wanted to say thank you. I have been looking for a good source for Viking/Anglo Saxon combat reconstruction. I am so excited to begin following your training regimen and lesson plans. I am hoping you will make some videos about axe combat as well.
Love to hear that, really hope it helps you out! Its always hard to explain something properly in front of a camera. I have actually very few experience with axes, I would not feel comfortable making an video about it.
7:11 Wait.. As a newcomer to this sport... Do you ever use this attack?? I mean from medieval longsword fighting pov I can see the point, but we (in this sport) cant score points to the head, nor are we even allowed to hit that close to the head. Or are you under other rules than ours? (Western fighting style).
No its not. I think people can be responsible on their own and be clever enough not to use techniques not allowed by the rule-set. But yeah, in my more recent videos I underline that issue. Thanks!

I'm trying to find your videos. I looked up Asheville sword school and got nothing. Please help.
I can’t wait to try these excercises. Thank you.

I am glad to hear that! Keep me updated, every feedback is welcome! :)
Are you training with head as a hitzone?

Drill 2 is not allowed in any tap fight for reenactment nor Buhurt styles.. it's historical, but not allowed. Nice video

How much does this shield weight? 5 kg?
No, it weighs only 3.3 kg. Historical shields were most probably in a range from 3.5 -- 5.5kg.
