  • Japanese Akita dogs are large, powerful dogs with much substance and dignity. Their proud head carriage and stance is enhanced by their small ears and dark eyes. They make a striking picture with their thick, plush coats.
    The Akita, the largest of all the Japanese breeds, was originally bred in the province of Akita in the 1600 and was originally developed as a highly successful fighting dog. In the late 19th century however, other breeds were imported into the fighting scene making the Japanese breeds suffer in popularity. As dog fighting fell out of favour, the Akita needed to find other jobs to do in order to survive, and managed this effortlessly by multi-tasking as a hunting dog, a guard dog, a police dog, a show dog and a much-loved companion.

    I have never seen one with the fluffy hair that the brindle has. Beautiful breed, would love to have one.

    In my whole life… my Japanese Akita is the nicest person that I have ever known. He wakes me up every morning with his cold wet nose on the tip of mine followed by a giant lick across my face. Then he goes over to my wife’s side and repeats. I am a physician and my Akita is our clinic therapy “dog”. I cannot imagine any dog being so wanted, needed, appreciated as our Thor.
    Our Blessed Venerable Tibetan Rinpoche has stated repeatedly; “ Thor is not a dog!”.
    So, we love and treasure him just like our child.
    BTW he had saved the lives of three humans.

    My Akita (American), Buddy, was a very handsome fawn with white stockings and a black mask and muzzle. HIs face was mostly expressionless. He was quiet, loyal, fierce, intelligent, and very strong and liked to hunt. I didn't have to teach him to hunt, he was naturally good at quietly stalking, using cover and concealment. He would actually bob and peek from behind a concealed position, a scary smart predator. He was very aloof, but always there. Not a cuddler, but he always wanted to be near. I never allowed him to attack anything, unfortunately, he managed to find and dispatch a possum and a crow while unsupervised. I have no idea how he caught a crow. He brought both carcasses to me. At his fittest adult weight he was 115 lbs. He had genetic problems, he came from a lousy breeder. If I didn't buy him they would have killed him. He died from an autoimmune disease at 7 years old. He suddenly began to bleed plasma through his skin and had multiple organ failure. I loved him, he was a great dog, but I won't go through that again with this breed. For full disclosure, I didn't know what I was doing with regard to purchasing a pedigree dog. He was a beautiful dog but at close inspection he had obvious issues. My vet was angry about the problems he had and advised me to return him, he knew it was a tragedy in the making. And the dog was AKC registered. I knew it would be a death sentence to return him so I kept him, I was already in love with him at first sight. There is not enough oversight in American breeding practices and there are too many unscrupulous breeders, breeders that are only in it for the money. It was a long time ago and I just wanted a pet dog. Since then, I've only rescued mutts and a tri color beagle.

    I have an American Akita that is a great protector and companion and good apartment dog. She is very chill and quiet in the house and only high energy when it’s cold and snowy outside. She is not cuddly but likes to be in the same room with me. She’s super smart and very entertaining with ways she tries to get what she wants. Very stubborn. She learns fast but then gets bored and stops listening😂🤦🏻‍♀️

      Basically, dogs with curly or wiry hair like schnauzers and poodles, and hairless or low-hair breeds like hairless chihuahuas, Chinese crested, and the xoloitzcuintli are the best hypoallergenic dogs.

    How come the real hachiko photo looks different than the now Japanese Akita inu

    • @jonransdell
      @jonransdell 10 месяцев назад

      Because the different lines (hunting line, fighting line, guarding line) of akita were bred together after world war 2 in order to save the breed from extinction. The devastation of Japan led to many dogs being culled, and the various breeds underwent changes due to changes in breeding lines.

    Why "japanese Akita Inu"? Akita inu should be enough because the "Inu" implies that it's the Japanese breed . This is why almost everyone is calling this breed Akita inu
    Japanese Akita inu is like saying Akita inu dog
