- "Fear and Loathing on the Road to Hollywood" (1978) also known as "Fear and Loathing in Gonzovision" is a short documentary produced by BBC Omnibus (basically, arty British tv series). It pictures Hunter S. Thompson in the late 70's, when he was eventually getting bigger than life. It was directed by Nigel Finch.
This smoothly directed road trip movie pairs Thompson with his inseparable fellow, famous illustrator, Ralph Steadman. The party travels to Hollywood via Death Valley and Barstow from Las Vegas being closely pictured by BBC crew and certainly interviewed at the spot.
This is a rarity and must-see for die-hard fans!
Long live the GONZO!
Hunter S. Thompson for a pope! Stomp on the Jesus, mon!
Where the fuck are you when people need you the most?
Love how they use Edward’s chirping to bleep out the swearing in this segment
"no thank you, i hate popcorn." lol
The Best
I like the way Bill Murray is introduced as just an "actor" and they don't even mention his name.
one crazy but BRILLIANT,interesting man to say the least, they broke the mold with Dr.Hunter S.Thompson 😤🚬🍺
@ 1:36 “Do you want som popcorn?”
“No thank you, I hate popcorn”
Gotta love the guy. RIP HST
As someone who hates being high in public, I can't imagine being stoned and having a camera crew following me around. I feel Hunter here.
r.i.p Hunter s. Thompson💯
a dirty sidewalk. epic
Oh Hunter, what you would of. had to say about today...
"Where the Buffalo Roam" Bill Murray was an amazing Hunter S. Thompson wayyyy before Depp, but Depp became Hunter, lol
too weird to live too rare to die
It looks to me like a dirty sidewalk
BILL FUCKIN MURRAY!!!
Don’t wonder what Hunter would say about today. Read his work. He predicted it.
HST must be joking when he says that he doesn't like Steadman's drawings, but they really are a perfect match of image to words. Whomever introduced them to each other must have had a sixth sense. .In "Gonzo," Steadman acknowledges Thompson's influence on his drawings. The pair and their work reflect the popular culture of the late 60s to mid 70s which seemed to focus a lot on drugs.
read "The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved". It's the first time they met, "covering" the story together.
