- Hey family! In today's video I'm bringing y'all along for a relaxing afternoon/evening of meal planning and cooking a comfort food supper & dessert! The whole family requested Shepherd's Pie & Chocolate Tarches, both all-time family favorites! Stay tuned for part two of Family Favorites coming next week! 😁💕
Shepherd's Pie Recipe:
2 pounds ground beef, cooked and drained
6-8 russet potatoes (Leave the peeling on to make it Rustic!)
salt and pepper
3 tablespoons mayo
4 tablespoons butter
1/4 cup milk
Shredded cheddar cheese
1 large can of green beans, drained
Wash potatoes. Boil until tender. While potatoes are boiling, cook the ground beef and shred the cheese. When potatoes are done mash them and add salt and pepper to taste, mayo, butter, and milk. Mix well. Spray a 9X13 casserole dish. Put drained ground beef and green beans on bottom. Top with mashed potatoes and then the cheese. Bake at 350° until cheese us bubbly, about 10 minutes.
Buttermilk Biscuit Recipe: NOTE: If you want to make the self-rising flour version of this recipe just substitute self-rising flour for the all-purpose and leave out the baking powder, baking soda, and salt. 😁👍
Ingredients:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 TB baking powder
1 tsp salt
6 TB unsalted butter (cold)
1 cup buttermilk
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°
Combine all ingredients and mix by hand, using a little flour to keep it from sticking to your hands too much. Pinch of pieces a little bigger than a golf ball and roll into ball shape. Pat in extra flour and press slightly onto baking pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 10-15 minutes, until bottoms of biscuits are browned. Brown the tops and spread with butter!
Chocolate Tarches AKA: Chocolate Hand Pies (I have no idea where the tarches part came from... 🤣)
1 can Grands Biscuits
About half a stick of butter
1/2 cup sugar
11/2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
flour for dusting
Dust working service with flour. Rolls out biscuits. Mix sugar and cocoa powder in a small bowl. Put about 1 tablespoon of sugar and cocoa mixture in center of biscuits. Add a thin slice of butter cut into 3-4 pieces. Fold biscuit over and close together with a fork, or pinch closed with fingers. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until biscuits are browned. My oven took about 30 minutes.

My husbands grandma raised him and his three brothers.. She always called shepherds pie “meal in a minute”.. she would make it the day after a fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetable supper.. She did ground beef then the left over vegetables topped with the leftover mashed potatoes with cheese.. Hence, meal in a minute!

I always tell him that him & his sister's & brother's that they are so blessed to have their mom still here.My mom passed away when I was born, I never saw nothing but a picture of her & some of her hair that , my dad had cut when she passed , it was so long. I put butter and milk. I sometimes will use heavy cream. Then I add salt and pepper. I make a basic mashed potato.

I never heard of putting sour cream or mayo in potatoes til my sister n law did. Turned out really good. Manley is just too cute helping you with snack time.
My basic mashed potatoes is butter and milk. one step up is adding garlic salt but if i go all out and do loaded i do the butter , milk, garlic salt, real bacon bits and sour cream and cheese.

I have heard of that - but we don’t use mayo - just butter milk salt and pepper - isn’t it something how every southern cook does different - we do Shepards pie the way we do - love it that way

Hey y'all!! Trapper Keepers!! I remember them from 30 years ago. lol! I don't put mayo in my mashed potatoes. I use sour cream. I learned that you can put any cheese in them but my favorite thing to do is I put cream of mushroom soup in it. It is sooo good.
Always had it with creamed corn 😋 so good!

Hey, What I have done with a well loved and used book that has not spiral, is to take it to one of the local "Print Shops" and ask them to put one in. It's super fast and not expensive. They have a big machine that slices off the back and punches in whatever holes needed for the spiral you chose. Might work for you.
Try adding a can of drained corn that's how my husband likes it it has a little bit of sweetness it's really good!
Fallon, just love the way you teach your sweet kids. Manley is so stinking cute. Sissy will be able to cook just like you , she is getting such good experience. She is precious.
I learned some of my mom's recipes just by watching her cook when I was growing up. I miss her cooking!

I haven’t tried mayo in my mashed potatoes. I have tried Greek yogurt. Especially in mashed sweet potatoes. My daughter laughed cause sometimes when I am in the store I will say hey I seen Fallon get that and if it’s good or not. I have learned so much from ya. 😊

We use either sour cream or Philadelphia cream cheese in our mashed potatoes, butter and milk. I do my vegetables separate as well....

We use milk, butter and if we can find it, creme fraiche, which is like sour cream, sort of. Do you season the meat for your shepherd’s pie? Sissy is so helpful in the kitchen. It’s a pleasure to see children that willing contribute to the family unit in this day and age. I have only sons, and they are also very helpful with anything around our home. We work together then we play together.

Manny and his little hand getting himself some cheese. So cute. We use sour cream and garlic sometimes in our potatoes. I love using my instant pot for potatoes. 1 cup of water or chicken broth, and set on 20 minutes, seal. They’re easy to mash right in the pot.
Dinner looked so delicious. The kids really looked like they were having alot of fun playing in the water outside. Sissy is such a great Helper in the kitchen. Manley is such a darlin. I could listen to him talk all day. He's so smart. LOL the chocolate tarches. I call it Shepherds pie too with ground beef. I used mayo when I am out of sour cream in my mashed potatoes. I make Shepherds pie the same way as you with vegetables as sides.
