Real. All points I've said for years. Especially with the point about legacy shadow raider. She's one of my favourite figures because I love her shield coz in my head canon she uses it like captain america, able to throw it and have it come back as well as she rides it down long hills. But some day I fear the shield will break
I feel like clear plastic should only be used on areas that make sense because I get so scared when it comes to clear plastic being a NECESSARY area in a transformation
I think replacing clear window with opaque sky blue window should be the step forward. This is in reference to that 5 Pack with Hound, Jazz, Wheelhack, Sunstraker and Trailbreaker. I know the original Jazz was fragile cos of the clear plastic but that pack is an improvement of that mold!
Clear plastic inserts are really cool. Giant transformation parts that take high stress, that are coated in chipable paint suck. Same with joints made of clear plastic. Just a bad idea.
I've been collecting TFs for over 15 years and haven't ever encountered an issue caused by clear plastic. I think it might be a humidity thing cause I live in a desert.
You want an example of break bait? The entirety of Transformers Animated. Several of those had translucent plastic joints, the possible biggest offender being Swindle. And the most bizarre thing in his case is that his vehicle mode windows ARE painted.
Clear Plastic in the right places can work well for windows or any part that does not move (G1 Oprimus Prime's Chest Windscreen for example) - What I hate, is clear plastic on elbow joints -- Transformers Prime Voyager Starscream was bad for this, my copy broke just buy posing the elbow and I didn't even bother replacing the figure.
I try to avoid figures with opaque plastics windows. It takes a mostly realistic looking figure and instantly makes it look more cartoonish. Out of curiosity, how come the clear plastic on the original G1 toys hasn't disintegrated? I haven't heard many stories of people saying that original Optimus Prime's windows have had issues?
Windows aren't so much an issue as major joints are. On the other hand, the G1 Datsuns (Prowl/Bluestreak/Smokescreen) are wildly infamous for the entire roof snapping off...a thing echoed by the Earthrise Datsuns.
@DragoonMS So... Hasbro was helping to recreate that nostalgia with the Earthrise Datsuns. I've heard of Gold Plastic Syndrome, but damn, Transparent Plastic Syndromr too? 😞
I hate the budget excuse because ROTB Studio Bumblebee has clear plastic inserts and it's a deluxe figure. They can 100 percent be in budget and do clear plastic inserts. The issue is fucking bad design choices
I'd prefer not to have clear plastic, and for any older Gold Plastic figures (Transmetal Megatron, Monstructor, G2 Superion) to get a modernized, rereleased version.
I don't mind clear inserts, but when its entire panels with pin joints... omg. I do grind my teeth when I transform them, usually 95% of the time they stay in robot mode, but the odd time I want to enjoy the alt mode I grit my teeth and slowly fold the joints and when I... let's face it, I don't even try to clip the clips in, I'm fine with it not being as flush a seam as can be. I've cracked clear clips and plastic clips.
I think Hasbro uses translucent plastic as a form of planed obsolescence. With niche characters like say the battle chargers, or run of the mile A-listers like Jazz, Cliffjumber or who ever Give Hasbro a continued customer base for this characters and excuses to keep producing that specific character.
I’ve never been a fan of clear plastic, one of the biggest reasons why I’m not as fond of Studio series. Everytime I touch a SS figure I get worried it’ll crack or break, then I gotta find a new one.
Facts my ss sideways and crosshairs already have stress marks and my younger brothers premium finish rotf optimus broke and he barley played with it. Hasbro got to stop in a minute I’m just gonna avoid transformers with clear plastic entirely
The example of why clear plastic shouldn't be used that I always point to is Studio Series Barricade. There's a clear plastic socket that holds the hood of the car mode. The first time I transformed it the socket cracked in half when i rotated the hood. I couldn't even transform the figure one time before it broke.
I could already do with painted plastic across the board. SS Ironhide, and Ratchet are two that should never had had that many clear parts/joints on them. The color consistency between the clear plastic and unpainted is also almost always awful. Haven't had anything break in the last two years of collecting but probably only a matter of time. As durable as most of the AEC toys were, I think the only severe breaks I've seen are Energon Snow Cat, and Demolisher. Both instances where pins were used inside very thin hinges. Most disastrous instance has been Animated Swindle. Hasbro really owes us a new one for as stupidly as that was designed.
Biggest Sin for transparency plastic to me has to be the torso for the Legacy Animated Bumblebee. I like the design a lot but that torso will break in afew years.
I've never had any issues out of hundreds and a couple 100% made of clear plastic. I think painted windows looks cheap like a dollar store figures. You got to think that these are just mainline figures and if you want something with better quality it's best to go masterpiece or third party.
I think part of it now may be marketing and by having the clear version now you can sell the same people the same figure that doesnt break or Hasbro is just dumb could be both
A good example of a terrible figure that had clear plastic and got redone properly well: SS jazz. Idk if i want to count SS v2 kup or cliffy boy but jazz comes to mind. All he needed was plastic remold and he turned out sweet
Opaque windows look cheap on deluxe and higher scale toys imo. Im not a fan of it. It was weird on Motormaster, but I get why he has it. But I just opened my sealed Beast-wars Scourge, and he broke. What broke? The clear plastic joints. So yeah.
@juice2307 and darker tinted inserts at that. To hide the robot bits. With what these things are costing, there really is no excuse to not use inserts for voyagers, leaders, & commanders.
I do however think light piping should stay on transfomers it just really makes the figure pop especially on the studio series maybe not he 86 but definitely the live action stuff
My beef with the clear/solid plastic windows is Hasbro doesn’t seem to make up their minds on settling for just one. And because a good bit is solid, I now have to “Toyhax” the windows & that’s bs. Someone has bad ADHD crap going on at Hasbro. Either solid or clear. It looks so stupid having some clear & others blue solid.
I hate solid plastic windows. I avoid buying ones with them (like Gears). It looks so cheap. Especially the stupid "cartoon blue" they have been using lately. I have also not had a single clear window break.
I’m starting to question the percentage of people who just brute force the transformations. Fragility is only a problem for me when clear plastic is used on major loadbearing joints, and window pieces usually are not that. Save solid color windows only for the time where paint matching is an issue. On the other hand the opaque windows they’ve been doing recently look horrible to me. You and a bunch of others having issues with clear plastic surely doesn’t mean hasbro should get rid of them ENTIRELY.
I have been complaining about this since Transformers Prime! Why? Why would you make an articulation point with clear plastic? It's so stupid. Look at Tf Animated Swindle, if you have it u better leave it be, otherwise it might break by just moving his fking limbs.
I always prefer painted windows blue or black. Don't know Why we need to see the messy inside of an altmode. Especially clear plastic on joints, terrible idea. Painted windows = no mismatched colours on the body of an altmode. No clear plastic = no broken figures.
I am beyond surprised that my original run 86 Jazz hasnt had any window issues to speak of. The amount of them I've seen in the community is ridiculous. I'm already as careful as can be with my bots as an adult collector but any bots that have clear plastic give me an insane amount of anxiety. I'd much prefer if Hasbro would just do solid plastic with painted windows as I end up covering em all with toyhax anyways. It just makes more sense in the long run, I mean cmon they figured out the yellowing plastic issue, cant we get this sorted out too?
@@Chrisjaam I never had an issue with clear plastic till a couple weeks ago. I was cleaning out my closet, came across Cybertron Blurr, as soon as I transformed him, one of the clear panels on the side just fell off by moving it. So yea, I agree. Clear plastic is trash.
Yall think hasbro will ever stop using clear plastic joints❓️❓️❓️
I don’t think they’ll stop unless they have to.
They need to stop it’s getting annoying when messing with a figure
NO NOT MY CLEAR PLASTIC 😭😭

I prefer clear plastic. I like the way it looks. Out of the hundreds of Transformers I have, I can’t think of any problems that stand out.

I hate the budget excuse because ROTB Studio Bumblebee has clear plastic inserts and it's a deluxe figure. They can 100 percent be in budget and do clear plastic inserts. The issue is fucking bad design choices
I think that was a special case because it was bumblebee so he can get all the budget for his own movie
I'd prefer not to have clear plastic, and for any older Gold Plastic figures (Transmetal Megatron, Monstructor, G2 Superion) to get a modernized, rereleased version.
Uh, I don’t think “Starscream’s ghost” figure can be done in solid plastic.
True but that also means he's really fragile. Best not to transform him too much.
I don't mind clear inserts, but when its entire panels with pin joints... omg. Its a scientific fact it's much weaker, even one of the designers at hasbro recently said its an issue

just paint windows gray or black, not hard.
Then it looks too much like a toy. I am not willing to sacrifice more premium looking windows for stability. Use inserts.
