I am one year locked. I also never braided and banded and that has never caused slippage or other issues. I have 4c hair though, so I understand braiding and banding might make more sense for people with looser hair textures. Your locs are beautiful.
Congrats!! And thank you!! Yea I definitely think it depends on the texture of your hair, I don't have much slippage, maybe one or two. So for me, I don't think it's necessary. But everyone is different!
I’m 2 years in and I neverrrr braided and banded lol. What I can say is you may have more bunching, but I love it lol, I love the entire process and eventually you can’t even tell 🤷🏾♀️ lol love it !
I just made a year on 9/7 I have microlocs started with two syrand twist with type 4C, but it's really soft and I'm still not completely locd. I braided and banded for maybe the first 7-9 months then I was told I didn't have to. But even with my hair texture I still get a lot of slippage around the edges and in the back. I started with 10" and won't probably be completely locd until another year and a half or two years. Funny many people think if you got really kinky type hair itll loc quick. Not the case at all...lol 😊 Love this journey wish I would have done this years ago.
Your hair looks great. The mistakes are part of the journey! Self retieing is not for the weak and the first few times there are growing pains (& longer sessions and cussing) for sure. I learned my lesson with not braiding and banding. Whenever I skip it I kept having to redo certain sections that are taking longer to actually lock. I'm a few days shy of 15 months - hoping I'll be able to stop by year two.
Thank you!! Yes sooo many mistakes, but it's nothing that will change my mind about this decision! I actually enjoy the reties...sometimes 😆I try to do them when I don't have to rush, so it can be a little relaxing...minus the arm pain!
I just started my diy micro locs about a week and a half ago. I started them with tiny finger coils and will be maintaining by retwisting. I was braiding and banding but then I realized that i didn't need to because my coils dont unravel. Im glad because it makes hair wash day faster. I do band my hair every night because i like it stretched. I tried to interlock my hair but gave up. I have 380 locs and didnt even get halfway through. On day 3 i realized that it wasn't for me so now I have the front did but the back undid 🤣 oh well. I free parted my locs so i don't even have a grid. Your hair looks great 😁
That's so cool! I haven't heard of anyone starting microlocs with tiny coils! I hope you're documenting your journey! I'm sure people would love to see that!
@@Loa.Dreamer Most definitely sis! At first I thought about taking them down and starting how everyone else does but then I realized that that would be a mistake because I would lose the uniqueness I have so I left them alone. I am documenting with pics and videos on my Instagram but will be putting together a few videos for RUclips. It's just something I have to get in the hang of because I live off grid. Thank you for replying, gorgeous 😘
That bump was because you waited too long do you retie for the first time. I had that issue with my first set of locs 😭😭😭. You can get that bump any time you wait too long to retie esp if you don’t wet and comb through before interlocking .
Great video. Do you have much unraveling when you shampoo? Did you blow dry/ straighten your hair before you installed your twists? Your hair looks absolutely beautiful.
Thank you so much! 💜I showed my process in my microloc part 1 and I elaborated a little more in the part 2 video since the whole thing ended up being so long. I do not have a lot of unraveling after I wash. My ends are curly so sometimes they unravel, but the actual twists do not unravel, just the curls on the ends.
I'm 4 months into my microloc journey and have been loving it so far. I have 4c hair and yes the shrinkage is real. I'm loving your locs. Did you have issues with frizz?

Your smile is EVERYTHING. I just combed out my traditional locs and I'm getting ready to start my micros soon.
Thank you so much! That’s gonna be cool to see how you like the difference in sizes
I just combed out my traditional in November and i just started sisterlocs in April and I'm loving it so far
I never braid and banded. I love and embrace the frizz and I do retimes every 4 weeks and kind of enjoy popping my married locs.
I started my locks with braids. Micro braidlocs do “puff” when they bud. But they do eventually sleek out a bit lol
Same here sis!! The bubble. Started braid, then twist then the bubble appeared. Thanks for this!
Thank you for watching! I just posted my retie video & I go into more detail. I hope this helps! 💜

I’m 7 months locs mines not as long as yours but the growth is there. Yours are beautiful
💜 Thank you so much!
I thought it was just me that felt like braiding and banding after washing makes more sense lol. Thanks for the vid and tips to fixing bunching.
Hello Beauty, your crown looks great, the bubbles are partof the hair locing process its called budding, U will get plenty more until fully-loc Queen

Thank you for watching!!!
Thank you so much for sharing. I’m learning so much from your journey!
Yay! Thank you so much for watching! Are you loc'd or thinking about it?
@@Loa.Dreamer just thinking about it!

Whoever said this is a journey ain't never lied! Thanks for sharing your challenges and how you overcame them. Your mane is looking super fine!!🤩
Don't I know it! I definitely underestimated the "journey" part! Thank you so much!
Great video! I absolutely hate braiding and banding. I don’t feel like my head is getting completely clean. 😩
Thank you for watching! I’m glad I’m not the only one!! 😂
Here watching

@@Loa.Dreamer thank you for responding. I did go back and look at old videos.
What oils do you use? Or can I order from you

Not yet, but I’m sure it will come as they swell.
What do you do if you lock is thick on some sections on the actual loc that might call breakage not in the scalp but the loc
It is your hair, do what you need to do.
You have beautiful teeth. Js. 😊
Thank you!!
I have 102, could imagine having a 400+ count🙌🏾🫶🏽
