Almost a year ago i was researching the duro when i stumbled onto your video. Fell in love with Vostok's charecter and ordered one. Haven't gone a day without it since
True. I had that Casio for a few days and sold it. I do have a Vostok at the moment and I can say itis much more my thing. Vostoks are fun and very interesting indeed. Just a bit to quirky for some...
Just a short notes; The first Casio watch was released in 1974. The Wostok was founded in 1942 /as a watch maker/ and re-branded in '68 when they earn the military supplier status. Till that time the Poljot was the only military suppler. Btw, in the 60s the Raketa earned the same privilege especially for submariner and heavy bomber 24 hour movements.
10:30 I believe you're wrong about the Amphibia's bezel being unsuitable for serious diving. The bezel is using the same principles as the crystal and the case back - the more pressure is applied to the watch underwater, the more the bezel is pushed into the case, literally locking the bezel in place. As some other youtubers have tested, the watch could also function and resist up to 800M of water pressure. It is a serious, albeit quirky diver's tool watch.
Vostoks are superb! I recently got one and I love it. Probably mine is closer to the real 200 meter WR since I changed the case back to a see trough one. Still more than enough for me. If you ate interested you can check it at my Watches Gadgets and Stuff channel (very amateurish review) lol
Besides the bezel, when I was diving I relied on a pressure gauge for my air reserve. The watch is more for timing decompression stages, i.E. for a 25 min dive at 30m you need 2 min at 6m and 8 min at 3m. Monitor your air intake and the pressure constantly so you have enough left for the 10 minutes it takes to get you out of the water 😊. To be true, when you regularly dive deeper than 15m I recommend a dive computer, it makes things a lot easier!
> the more pressure is applied to the watch underwater, the more the bezel is pushed into the case This is not possible, given the bezel is not sealed but has pressurised water behind it. It could be that the expanding crystal locks the bezel in in the way you describe, this is unlikely but possible depending on the tolerance. I have heard that salt water deposits on the bezel and spring do make it tighter and it can be bend manually for a similar increase in friction.
I have both. Actually I have four Vostoks which I enjoy Modding! I know you can mod the Casio also but the Vostoks bring me much more fun! The Casio is my beater watch. All my Vostoks keep great time! IMO Vostok watches have much better quality and build than my Casio.
Bought a Duro last week, amazing for $47.00, yes it's quartz but the second hand hits every marker dead on. Feels and wears much better than cost. I have two Vostok, no complaints. Fun watches with interesting dials. I don't think there junk, but not something I would wear everyday.
Between the 2 of them i would always go for Vostok for the history and presence. At the moment i'm rocking a 2013 automatic Tissot Seastar and i love it :X. Stay safe and healthy Oleg and all of you out here! Cheers!
I have 3 but the dial markers are horribly misaligned on the 920, the company should improve their designs and they'd have a larger cult membership. They will never be taken seriously in the horological world till they do. If you like Vostok recommend the Amfibia line, it's better watch in every respect and the Reef GMT is gorgeous.
The design concept behind the Vostok was that as you dived deeper the water pressure would keep your bezel setting in place. Big fan of the Vostoks myself. Nice objective review Oleg!
They both look great but I must confess that I really like Vostok watches and I have one myself which I ordered one year ago from Russia. My Amphibia is awesome but I still have a thing with the Komandierski range and one of these days I have to get one of those.
I have a Vostok amphibian had it about 3 years. I have absolutely hammered this watch including the watch I grab when i go surfing and still working great. Some paint has come off the dial due to a few impacts with the ground, might get around to getting another dial one day.
@@24hourstime This is true, Got rid of the paint flakes floating around and you now see brass showing. Which to be honest goes well with the sailing boat picture.
I bought my first Bostok in LENINGRAD in 1990! Of course it was on the black market😎🤫😉 It still works pretty much perfectly. I’ve bought the Scuba Dude in the last 12 months & love it too. The Casio Duro I’ve had for almost 2 years. Also a great watch. I like your mods on the Vostok Oleg😎👍🏼
Great idea for a video, I never would have thought of it. I really like Vostok watches, I think I have 5 and they all keep time very well. My jeweler was impressed enough to ask me how much the first one cost. They are almost too large for me, the Casio is way too big. I dislike the modern trend of over-sized watches.
I own the Duro and have always liked the Vostok, but have never been able to pull the trigger on the Vostok. I think it comes down to having too many choices of the Vostok and not one that quite nails the “wow” factor for me. Lol! I’m looking at them again, now!
Great video Oleg. I have both, but if I had to choose, it would be the Casio Duro! It’s such a solid piece. I love them both, and will never get rid of either. Both watches should be in everyone’s collection.
I like both, but owning the Casio, I can say that it looks better and I find myself wearing it a lot, even over some of my automatic pieces. It's amazing fit and finish for the price.
When you talk about the beze, it has nothing to do with the oxigen left. To keep track of the oxigen divers use computers. The bezel on a diver watch is used to keep track of the time they spend on a certain deepth in order to correctly time decompression stops at the end of a dive. Great comparative anyways! Cheers from Spain!
is that possible to put on duro automatic movement is it capable for 2824-2 i have many automatic movements and i want to put some for experiment in cheap watches with expensive movements?
I think that the MDV 106 does well because of the 44mm size. They just put out 3 different dial colors at the same size and that separates this model from the rest of the pack. Let's not forget that Casio also has a multitude of models and in various sizes. I live at the beach and recently picked up the blue dial. It is a great feeling to know that this inexpensive watch can take a beating and easily replaceable. Lastly, it keeps my wife off my back because I am not wearing my more expensive brands while out messing around at the beach.😉
I look cool in both. Though I got rid of the rubber Casio strap for a leather one instead. The Casio is about +5 s.p.month, while the Vostok is about +10 s.p.day. The Vostok is a 24hr. dial and quirky and a mechanical, so is more interesting. But the Duro is dependable, convenient and has presence. No preference overall, just situational.
Great video. I own a few Vostok 710 modes as well as a 020SE. Thanks personally really like them, but That are definitely not for everyone. I would say they are for people who can appreciate what they are and understand what they got. I personally think vostoks would be bad everyday watches and bad if you only wanted 1 watch. If you have multiple watches, understand what they are, and like the history and uniqueness, they are great. The Casio is a great quartz diver, especially for the price. It is a little big for some. I don’t think it can be beat for the price. I very solid watch.
That's a 2415 movement. The 2426 & 2432 are 24 hour movements. The 2416Б has a date complication and the 2414 is a hand wind only. I love the Восток brand and own 23 with no 2 alike, beautiful timepieces.
In the UK this casio costs 116 british pounds. Its a nice watch but NOT for that money. I like Vostok watches. Have 3 so far in my collection and still houngry for more. Great video BTW. Thanks.
This didn't come into my subscription feed despite the bell notification being clicked - Thank you Oleg - enjoyed the review - I have the Casio, I've not yet owned a Vostok. atb snack
Like you mentioned, I too wish Casio was a smaller watch. It would wear and look so much better. That said, if I watch is good enough for Bill Gates...
Had a Vostok years ago, terrible time keeping, maybe I got a dud. My Duro is great, rock solid bezel, maybe I got a good un. Both excellent value watches. Bond is cool
I think if accuracy is important to you at at all, Vostok is a risk, however I do have a local watchmaker that will regulate a watch for $10 bucks, so there are options out there
Enjoyed the review brother, as always....both are fantastic watches with a great deal to offer, vostoks are fab, they are that bonkers relative we all have but in a watch world, qurky & eccentric....the Casio D has always been steadfast, it is what it is and they've never felt the need, until now, to offer different options....they are two of the best everyday beaters out there....and long may it continue....⌚🏴⌚🏴
Your Vostok 420 case is nice for wrist sizes 7" and smaller. The 120 case is a better fit for larger wrists and there are many other case sizes too. The Casio as cool as it is, would look like Flava Flav on my 6.75 inch wrists. I wished it came in 40mm.
The vostok has tons of appeal but the quality control is a hit and miss while the casio is well built but looks too ordinary as it's a contemporary diver design. The vostok is automatic while the casio is quartz. But with the price range it's just too affordable and having both is not a bad idea.
Vostok has a cult following of modders. When it comes as it was made it is very boring and kind of nasty. But what do you expect for what they go for? Yours is much better looking than when you got it. As you pointed out many options to make it your own where the casio is too large for many of us. But I do have a love for Gshocks, and I only have a couple and would like to get some more. Sadly they are only from Japan the ones I want and prices are over MSRP so I will wait. I am not going to pay 170 dollars for a 100 dollar watch. :)
First and foremost the Vostok has an Automatic movement. I have a ScubaDude and another one on the way. Casio G Shock, perhaps even then l don't think so...

Nice video. I have a Vostok Amphibia and I love it. By the way, here is the official website for Vostok where you can buy an Amphibia, many other watches, and parts for modding your Vostok meranom.com/en/. It is a great watch, it has so much character and history, it is reliable, it is accurate when adjusted correctly (mine ran +-3 seconds from the factory, I did not adjust it), they are easily moddable and you can create an entirely different watch, there is so much variety, it is different than anything else on the market cheaper or more expensive, and it is sold new at a great price for a legendary durable dive watch with an in-house automatic movement. The Casio is nice and is also at a great price for better build quality, but has none of the charm of the Vostok. Also, what is the camera you have on your table, it looks nice.
Casio Duro MDV106 is not availible in Europe! Contacted their marketing managers in the Netherlands and Germany and they won't sell this particulair watch on the European market. Not even now two new color versions are released. When purchasing one on the internet from abroad it's far too expensive in comparison to the rest of the world. So one conclusion: Casio Europe SUCKS !!!!!
I own BOTH of these watches. The Casio is good. Vostok is absolute JUNK. at the end of the day, you are buying a watch. With that purchase your have primary expectations. You want a working and decently accurate timepiece...the Vostok fails to even meet the primary expectation. It is overhyped garbage. The Vostok is shit.
